Today, Desmond, Nina, and I flew a kite in the garden. I stretched out my hand with the kite, and as soon as the wind began to pull the kite, I let go of the rail a little. The kite slithered through the air, and I carefully handed the spool to Desmond.

"Desi, be careful not to pull too hard or you'll hurt yourself."

"Okay, Riya."

"That's smart." I smiled.

"My lady, are you sure you're better now?"

"Certainly."

"I can't believe that not only did they not punish the princess, but they would still celebrate her birthday, anyway." Nina frowned.

"Calm down, Nina. Everything is already good."

"My lady, you are too careless."

"Do you think so?" I smiled at her.

"His Grace is furious. He says that you should not go to the celebratory banquet."

"We don't have a choice. He is not only my father, but also one of the emperor's advisers. If we don't show up, rumours will spread right away."

"You are right, my lady. I warned you that this capricious princess was up to something, but you didn't believe me."

"Sorry about that."

"My lady, you are too kind and trusting. I can't be angry with you."

"Which is good for you." I smiled at her.

"Nina, help me." Desmond waved his hand.

"Of course, young master." Nina walked up to the boy.

Tomorrow was a banquet for Princess Louise's birthday. We were all invited. As much as we didn't want to go there, we still had to attend. I took a deep breath. Aiden hadn't shown up in days, but he sent magical messages that he was fine and I didn't have to worry. I looked at the laughing Desmond and Nina and smiled.

"Good afternoon, Riya."

"Kain. Are you with Mikael or by yourself?"

"Myself. Mika deals with documents in the palace."

"Understandable. Have you climbed over the wall in the garden again?"

"Yes."

"How did you know that I would definitely be in the garden?" I smiled at him.

"I just felt it."

"Does this happen?"

"I think yes."

"Why are you always so serious when we're alone?"

"I do not know. So, how are you feeling?"

"Everything's alright, do not worry."

"I am pleased to. I'm ashamed that because I didn't accept Louise's feelings, she did this to you."

"You are not to blame for this." I smiled awkwardly.

"Riya..."

"You are my friend. So don't blame yourself for anything."

"You know, when I first saw you, you were also flying a kite." Keane chuckled.

"Yes?"

"And he got stuck in your tree. Your brother wanted to call the knights, but you took off your shoes and climbed up the tree to get the kite. I was in such shock and didn't know what to think."

It happened two weeks later, when I woke up in this body. The sight of a noble lady in the tree shocked him.

"Kain..."

"Every time you turned my world upside down with your actions. Your gaze has always been so pure. At first, I thought you were pretending, but when you smiled at me and held out your hand, I realised that I was mistaken." He took a deep breath.

"People tend to err."

"I even lied to Mika that I didn't see you. To watch over you longer. Hear you sing to your brother, your laugh, see you smile. For me it became the norm, as if it had always been like this."

"Keane..." I understood what he wanted to tell me. Because I already know it. My heart sank.

"I was uncomfortable with my own feelings for you because I betrayed Mika, who is like a brother to me."

"When we first met, was it by chance?"

"Not. I followed you too. When I saw you smile at me, I felt that I love you." Keane smiled sadly. "You were so beautiful at the debutante ball. Mika figured it all out right away. He saw me looking at you, but at first he didn't tell me anything."

"You said that he also came a couple of times to the manor. Was it after the ball?"

"Yes. He was interested in watching you. You got him interested, too."

"When we talked with you near the lake, I felt that you were hurt by your own words, and I feel it again."

"I'm happy to be your friend. Even then in the garden, I realised that my love for you would be unrequited. It's enough for me that you know and still be friends with me."

"I am so sorry." I felt tears running down my cheeks. "Forgive me for the pain you are feeling right now."

"Better to love and feel pain than to never meet you." A tear ran down Keane's cheek.

"Sorry."

"Please don't cry." He wiped my wet cheeks with his palms.

"Thank you for loving me and I'm sorry I can't return your feelings."

I gently touched Keane's cheek, wiped away his tears, and then hugged him and burst into tears even more. He awkwardly hugged me back. I caused him so much pain, but I didn't want it, and still, he said that he was glad to be friends with me. My heart was breaking from this. Why did it all happen? You wouldn't have suffered so much if it weren't for me.
