I woke up in a dark room. The smell of dampness immediately hit my nose, and I felt an unpleasant cold under my back. The ceiling in the room was so huge, and an old chandelier with candles hung over my head. A row of old, dilapidated stone benches, decrepit, torn fabric. I looked around. The huge stained-glass window on the window was almost crumbling. I tried to pull my arms and legs, but I didn't succeed. They were still tied. Looking closely, I realised that I was lying on a stone altar.

"Slept well?" I heard Bella's voice.

"Let me go!"

"How rough. Like remembering the past?"

"What did you do with Mikael?"

"Worrying about the one who beheaded you is sheer stupidity, but since you are interested, I will say that he is sleeping peacefully in the garden. Probably already awake, the pathetic weakling was so shocked that he did not even try to save you."

"What is written in the book is complete nonsense. The only one who loved you was him."

"Of course, nonsense, but I need you to feel what kind of role awaits you."

"Why did you do all this?"

"Well, no, I do not want to show all the cards yet. I'd rather tell you what happened after your execution." She smiled. "When that idiot executed you, I had to urgently look for my dagger, Aiden took it. He knew right away that I had set it all up. I killed him, but I never found out the new location of the dagger. Keane also realised that I didn't like his idiot friend. I hired mercenaries to keep him from telling anyone.”

“Did you kill Alex too?”

“No. He loves you so much that he tried to save you from death and free you, but the imperial guards did everything for me. What a pity you didn't choose him in this life.” She ran her hand down my cheek.

"Do not touch me!"

“You would have got here earlier, but I couldn’t bring you back because of your strong attachment to your younger sister and that world, I think her name was Sasha.”

“Don't say her name with your nasty mouth!”

“I calculated everything except your stepmother. She wanted money and a beautiful life so much that she did not pay attention to her daughter at all. Bella chuckled. “Then I had to make your attachment disappear, which is why Sasha died.”

I tightly clenched my hands and twitched towards her. I wanted to strangle her with my own hands. Rip out her rotten tongue. Memories of Sasha's torment tore through my heart.

“Amazing, you look so beautiful now. Your wickedness is beautiful.” She smiled.

“I'll kill you.”

“I doubt it. Do you know how much your father cried after you died? He could not bear the pain of your loss and hanged himself in this world and the next.”

“Shut up.” I felt tears running down my cheeks.

“I wonder if this time will be the same?”

“I thought you loved Mikael. You were happy with him.”

“Love is stupidity. If there is still one person that I love, it’s you.” Bella leaned over and ran her tongue over my lips. “Especially your pure soul. A little girl who wanted so badly for someone to love her. You are perfect for me.”

“For what?”

“I told you for a great purpose, the Red Moon will soon rise, my blood magic will increase, and I will be able to open my mistress’s cage.”

“Mistress? Are you talking about the goddess Ether?”

“Clever. Do you want me to tell you a story? How disgusting love is?” Bella sat down next to me. “One day, centuries ago, the god of light, Lumiel, and the goddess of darkness, Aether, fell in love. They were so happy together, but the god of light loved people too much. Efira, tried to explain how envious, cruel and deceitful they really are. Lumiel was deaf to the words of his beloved, and then she decided to show him the true face of people. He was frightened, betrayed his beloved, sealed in an underground prison. Lumiel couldn't stay true to his feelings. His love for people was greater than for Aether. That's what this love is. I think that you are left with memories of a former life, too, his handiwork.”

"It's all nonsense."

She laughed. "Thanks to Aether, I am the most powerful bloodbender. My ancestor was a bishop who tried to explain to people who the true god is for us."

"You're sick in the head." I twitched sharply.

"Do you think so? You know, when I realised that you remember everything, I had to hire mercenaries, but they did not succeed. The prince helped you. Later I used sleeping pills, but stupid Louise also slipped it on you. Your kidnapping failed, so I decided to get the dagger first, and then deal with you."

"How long are you going to talk?" I heard a male voice.

"Victor, you're on time." Bella smiled.

"Are you tired of playing games?"

"Not yet. Our sweet Ariana needs to know what she's going to die for."

"Why are you helping this crazy woman?" I looked at Victor.

"He has his reasons. He wants to bring your mother back to life." The girl smiled.

"It's not possible. Mom died a long time ago. The dead cannot be returned."

"My lady can." Victor frowned.

"Look after her, Victor." Bella has gone somewhere in the dark. Only now did I realise that this place was a ruined church.

"You are so similar, like two drops of water, even your voices." Victor ran his hand over my cheek. "Such perfect skin, like porcelain and this beautiful smell of night violets. Like a goddess descended from heaven."

I turned my head to the other side to avoid looking at him.

"She also turned her back on me. Duchess Marie forbade me to approach you, but now you are near." He leaned closer to my hair. "You are even more beautiful than her. As innocent and fragile as crystal."

"Get away from me!"

Victor touched my neck. "When I met your mother, I realised that I only need her to live. I feel this feeling when I see you."

His touch terrified me.

"Even your body trembling is beautiful." He touched my lips with his thumb. "How I wish those eyes looked only at me."

"Do not touch me!"

"When I saw you in the arms of that vile magician, I wanted to break every finger he touched you with. Cut it into small pieces and bury it, as you did with your mother's maid who burned her beautiful skin." Victor ran his fingers over my chest.

I was wildly nauseous after his words. He killed Nina's older sister. Victor was a crazy killer. He was obsessed with the thoughts of my mother.

"You're disgusting!"

"She told me the same thing the last time we met." He smiled. "Before Duchess Marie died, I climbed into the manor to see her, because due to her illness she no longer attended church and I heard how much she asked Nina to protect you from me. Her sickly face was just as beautiful."

“Shut up! Someone like you insults her memory with your dirty words!”
