Ch 9 – Quick Learn

I approached it slowly, as if afraid to step on land. I carefully looked at the capsule, as my breath was shaky and short due to my previous battle.

My heart started beating faster as I realized that she might be inside. I looked at the capsule as I felt my breath getting heavier. I was starting to panic.

What if she didn't survive the impact? What if she was badly injured? I started imagining all the bad scenarios.

I was about to lose it when suddenly something moved inside the capsule. I stared at the movement as my breath slowed down.

"Shea!" I called her name and tried to open the capsule, but there wasn't any handle or something similar with that. She was my only guide in this world I couldn't lose her.

'How do I open it?' I brushed the dirt from the capsule, trying to find out the handle, a button, or whatever. But I couldn't find it.

As I was brushing the capsule, I could hear the sound of metal scraping against each other. In my confusion, I turned my head and found a small door that was hidden under the capsule.

A female voice answered me, saying, "Get back, Axl! I'm coming out."

I did what she asked me. I backed away slowly. As I was doing that, I noticed a small light glimmering from inside.

The light got brighter and brighter until finally, it opened. A girl appeared from the capsule, accompanied by her three drones and a mini-size Ryder.

Once Shea opened her helmet, I was surprised as I stared at her.

"Are you okay?" I asked her again.

My eyes scanned her body and based on what I saw, I couldn't say she was okay. The side of her face was swollen, probably due to the impact. The corner of her lips was stained with blood.

Ryder and her drones were also damaged during the impact. The lights were all broken. Likewise with some of its laser guns.

"Yeah, I'm fine," she breathlessly.

I exhaled a long breath.

"Sorry for the stupid question." I shouldn't have asked her when the answer was clear.

Without a word, I approached her and took her hand.

"Ouch!" she grimaced due to the small gesture.

'Healing Light!' I used my skill to heal her.

[ You have healed the wounds on Shea's body!]

[ You have healed the wound on Shea's right arm!]

[ The wound on Shea's left thigh has been healed!]

[ The wound on Shea's left leg has been healed!]

Shea was stunned. She lifted her palms and stared at it in amazement before she checked out her body but she couldn't believe that she had completely recovered.

"That's impossible," she muttered. She was still in shock.

I smiled proudly.

"There is nothing I cannot do." Then I approached Ryder. "Can you change it into its motorcycle form?" I asked Shea.

"What are you going to do?" she asked in confusion.

I turned to her and grinned.

"Fix it." This thing was our vehicle. Since I didn't see any nearby city around here and didn't want to take a long walk and also couldn't fly since it was the same as giving my location to those cyborgs, I had to fix this so we could move from here.

She pointed to Ryder and gave me a look of disbelief.

"You want to fix Ryder?" she made sure. Her disbelief was clear from the tone of her voice.

I smiled dryly.

"Yeah. Just believe me I can do it," I clarified.

Having no choice, she decided to believe me.

"Ryder, normal form!" she ordered.

Soon, it turned into its motorcycle form again. The difference was it looked more messed up than the first time I saw it.

I lifted my hand to it and used my skill.

'Quick Learn!'

A series of information rushed into my head.

[ Name: Ryder ]

[ Class: Vehicle]

[ Size: Medium]

[ Type: War machine]

[ Weight: 1231 KG]

[ Armaments: Six laser cannons, two energy shields, four missiles, one anti-personnel rocket launcher, two flamethrowers, one laser cannon, and one missile launcher.]

[ Abilities: Enhanced mobility, increased durability, and improved combat skills.]

[ Status: all the weapons, shields, and missiles were destroyed after the impact.]

Then a series of information about the structure, components, and everything rushed into my head.

After a few seconds, the skill finished and I already understood what I should do.

'Fix!' I used my skill again. My palms glowed in blue and it covered Ryder.

[Fixing is in progress…]

[The target will receive an upgrade to its current state.]

[ The target will be upgraded according to its current status.]

[ The user must have enough mana available.]

[ The target receives a temporary increase in its abilities.]

After my skill finished, Ryder was now fully operational.

"Wow! That was amazing!" Shea exclaimed.

"I can't fix everything since I need some components but this should be enough to take us to the nearby city," I admitted. Especially the missiles.

"I also can fix your drones," I added. They weren't totally destroyed. The lasers were damaged but I could repair them. At least their shields would work again. I could use my skill and fix the shield first. Once the shields were back, I could fix the lasers.

'Nah, we don't have time for that,' I quickly reminded myself and dispersed my thoughts. This typical excitement always engulfed me every time I just learned something.

"But I think we should get out of here now," I quickly added again. After that big impact, the cyborgs might send their reinforcement again.

"You are right." She approached Ryder and stopped beside me. "Anyway, what can I do to repay you?" she asked.

“A jug of water will be nice. My throat is dry," I answered her.
