Despite his words, I became baffled, returning into deep silence.

At my attitude, he shrugged his shoulders, not minding it.

"This is a shovel, an item to make holes," just like his words, the space on the ground kept getting wider. He hadn't lied about it.

I took a deep breath, feeling a tiny ammount of mental peace entering my mind. Yet, not enough to make me feel anything but sorrow.

"Where I come from, we bury those who die."

My eyes stole a glimpse at the mountain of dead bodies. It gave me a sense of duty. Whenever someone died we'd put the body on the river, allowing the goddess stream to carry it to the next life.

However, I didn't have the strength to carry all of them there, despite wanting to do it. Yet, I didn't want to see them in that state either.

I got up, and walked to the man, extending my arms towards the tool in his hands.

"Good choice," he gave it to me, taking some steps to the side.

Thus, I focused on the task at hand. Shovel after shovel, slowly but surely, the space widened.

Yet, it would without a doubt take ages to fit every single one of them in it.

But I wasn't in a rush. This, too, turned out to be the therapy that I didn't know I needed.

This time around, I decided to break the silence due to something he had said, "item?"

"Don't tell me you don't know what items are," the tone of his voice, all by itself demonstrated great confusion.

"I don't."

"This... this is great news!" Before I could say something he ran further away from me, leaving me dumbfounded.

'Whatever,' quickly, I gave up on pursuing the matter. If it came to it, I'd eventually get to learn more about it.

Time passed by fast, darkening the dawn into dusk, finding myself laying on the ground exhausted.

Loud sounds succeeded one after the other.

'That noise again,' my eyes locked on the far sky above. Whatever it was happening it hadn't change the purple aura nor the shaman influence over this island. Not that I had any hopes for that to happen. Centuries had passed for my tribe, and none of us managed to do anything about it.

I remembered Van gallant aspect, 'someone that good looking...' my head swayed to the sides. No way in hell a fancy immaculate person would know how to fight.

Warriors were those that hunted on a daily base. The ones that provided my kin with meals and good furs.

They who dyed their faces with red and brown from fruits and mud.

'His not worth it,' I decided then that such a man would never be the one.

The path to becoming stronger. The hopes that riled up in me after digging this big hole, capable of engulfing a troll stinky foot.

'I'll do my best grannie!'

But the reality was that there was nothing of that sort inside of me. This was all just but a facade.

I left the tool on the floor and walked back to where I woke up. There I drank the leftover water that remained in a broken casket.

Soon, tears joined the now empty wooden container.

"Prophecy... goddess..." I muttered in rage, finishing the second word off by gritting my teeth.

Madness returned back to me, filling the vast void within.

I took a glimpse at the mountain of corpses.

"Liers! Liers! Lier!" I scolded them like never before. It was a new side to me, one that could have instilled fear on the brothers who pushed me out of harm. My hands tightened to the point of turning both into knuckles.

"Grannie you promised not to!" The shivering relentlessly flowed through my skin.

'Why did you leave me behind?'

My heart became a battlefield between the harbouring feelings I had of their deaths, divagating between sorrow and hate. The overwhelming emotions corrupted a fragment of my sanity.

'I want to live,' life for me was precious enough to shout it out loud for the world to hear. But I didn't want to go through it alone.

Five crude days passed till I managed through very hard work to put the last member of my kin underneath the ground.

As natural as breathing air, a voice of unknown origin seeped into my mind.

☆The oldest one alive may receive the seed of the goddess. Do you wish to accept this blessing?☆

I took a long look at the ground around me, noticing all the bumps and irregular terrain.

For a while, I had cursed my powerlessness, but above all, the way no one did anything to help us. It was us and the trolls, and a spring that divided our territories.

Certainly, if the goddess had so much power, she could have just flood their territory. Perhaps even disable the powers of the shaman with a greater blessing than his eerie magic.

The pile of burdens crushed me to the ground. There was no way I could accept whatever offer she had for me. Not after losing my grannie and kin.

Before saying anything, the light on the sky shone, and my eyes followed after it. With all my heart I understood then, that something in this island had changed.

Suddenly after one more explosion, it started to rain. The drops that fell on me no longer burned my skin. Once I opened my mouth to taste them, its flavour was rather sweet.

My own tears followed the ones from the sky, sliding down my face.

Every inch of my corrupted skin started to turn back into normal. I knew that Van and the others had looked at me with disgust. But from my blackened purplish self, things were becoming the way my kin always dreamed.

But this sudden change made me aware of something. Therefore, I followed my guts and the thick darkness within me.

"I don't accept."
