Chapter 25: Chap 1 rewrite: coupled spirit and the forest

In a tranquil silent serene forest, a sharp cracking sound resounds, alerting the nearby beasts.

Harsh winds bellowed and a tree shake and tremble. Its body contorted and twisted. It's being swallowed right in the middle.

*crack* *crack*

Soon enough the tree is no more and all that's left is a dark portal on top of a rough stump.

Two figures got tossed out of the portal and they both hit a tree.

One is a ball of branches, roots, and leaves with stumpy arms and legs. In the middle of the ball is a huge eye with green pupils. Adorn on its body is a necromancer robe.

The other one is a plump rounded owl with black-tipped white feathers, black eyes, and a beak with sharp fang-like protrusions. On the top of its head is a yellow crown of feathers exuding holy presence.

The first one is Lily(male) and the second one is Yen(female). They are a couple.

Lily rubbed his head in pain, he is annoyed and angry. Yen beside him check her feathers for any damage and when she saw her tail feathers a bit damaged she also get angry.

"I swear I'm going to pluck all your beard when we come back, old man!!!" 

She shouted at the slowly shrinking portal

A voice from the portal then replied

"Good luck with that" 

The voice laugh before disappearing

Lily throws a stone at the portal before it fully disappears and a series of profanities can be heard, unfortunately for them, the portal is already closed.

"What should we do now?" 

Lily asked, he tidy up his robe before standing up.

Yen on the other hand is still fuming with anger and whispering. The question of Lily brought her back to her senses

"I hate that old man, I hate him... Huh? 

Let's get out of this place first"

Then she whispered to herself

"And then make that old man go bald hehe"

Lily can't help but sigh, this partner of his is terrifying when angry.

"Alright, I'm going to check our stuff first" 

He said, but it seems Yen is still too busy thinking about her revenge plan to hear what Lily just said.

The situation is that they got exiled from the afterlife after some troubling events.

A huge screen with a huge list of items and their pictures appeared in front of Lily. This is one of the creations of this two couple based on games from their world "Earth" after spending some time in the afterlife, inventory

The afterlife is a paradise of knowledge where you can create anything you want as long as you know what is needed and as long as it abides by the rules of the afterlife

He casually scrolls on the list, looking for important items.

He then saw something that make him happy. He clicked the item and then a farming rake decorated with all sorts of plants manifested in front of him.

He quickly grabbed it and swing it around.

He grins and thought

'Those bastards forgot to clear all our items from our inventory ' 

Yen who's still thinking about all sorts of things on the side caught sight of the farming rake.

She quickly flew to his side and excitedly said.

"Check the book if it's still there!" 

Lily also nodded and soon enough they found what they are looking for. 

A thin book with mysterious symbols and one big word on the cover, "Virtual".

This is a book personally written by these two after hundreds of years of studying a mysterious law of nature they happen upon by accident in the afterlife when they are just dating, also something that brought them closer than ever.

They are overjoyed when they saw it and also relieved. This is something that no one must get from them, its content can cause a lot of trouble.

They flip through its contents.

"This is the real one"

He said with relief

"Since we don't have anything to do, let's just study this world for a bit before doing that"

Yen pointed at the book

Since they have nothing to do before they plan, might as well study this world and so he just agrees

"Sure, let's leave, we won't be able to do anything if a strong best spot us" 

Before their exiles, they got severely weakened. Now even a simple beast can kill them

He then put on a necklace on her, gently. It looks the same material as her crown, the design resembles that of a 6 winged angel. The design is purely a choice since no real leader rules the afterlife they are from, only the mysterious rules that govern the place that keep the order. No one knows who put the rules, only that it's been there since the beginning.

She leans toward him gently before they take off to somewhere safe.

Some months later 

They studied everything they can and found that they can't use any energy from this world since it rejects them and their bodies rejected it. Like how something from outer space can be something that natural things on Earth will regard as unnatural and out of this world.

This is no problem for them tho, their body creates its energy to sustain them. They called this energy Mana. Beings from where they are from are never the same and their body structures are never the same. Same with them, tho they are pretty similar to each other.

From their stay here, they happen to eavesdrop upon a group of travelers in the forest and find out that people here cultivate to grow strong. This surprised them since cultivation stories are widespread on the earth before they died.

Tho it will not benefit them even if they study cultivation because of their internal and energy structure, they are quite interested in studying them.

After studying everything they can, including the unique structures of the trees where some trees possess bones, and everything, they decided to just live idly and peacefully at the top of the mountains until their plan is ready to be finished.

Quietly, Lily is tending to his little farm and practicing his ability on some plants. The field is properly plowed and the plants are properly watered.

Lily stood next to a plant. Magic circles enveloped the plant and after that, Lily said

"Enchant"

The magic circles then fused themselves with the plant and it started changing. It grows thicker and much healthier. Other than that, nothing changed

He murmurs with disappointments 

"Still the same"

They encountered a problem, they can't absorb energy and thus can't get stronger unless they finish their plan.

Ignoring the plant, he left and went inside a cave where Yen could be seen writing symbols on the wall. 

"How long before we finish it?" 

He sat to the side before lying down.

"4 more months or longer"

She replied without looking back, she's focused on writing.

"Alright, I'll go planting again outside. I'll tell you when I found something strange"

He said

She only nodded before replying

"Take care"

He then walked to her side and whispered

"No kiss?" 

She then gently replied

"A smack, you want?"

He just laughed

"Nope, I'll be going now" 

He then left.

Two months passed peacefully.

The farm of Lily grew bigger with the crops that he thinks are "edible" growing healthier from all his enchantment tests. The surrounding plants, trees, insects, and everything he can have his hands on also changed from all his enchantments.

Here you can see large patches of vines with long thorns, spiders the size of a squirrel, insects growing bigger and more poisonous and venomous. There are even carpets of thorns growing from the ground. All because he is bored. Tho in the end those things are still ordinary and don't pose even a bit of danger to strong animals in the forest. But even with that, the insects reproduce faster, and the plants and trees are growing more toxic as time pass.

One more month later

Yen decided to take a break.

Her ability is healing, but it also has another property and that is when she uses it on someone, there is a slight chance that they will receive regenerative property for a while.

The primary ability of Lily is enchanting, all sorts of enchanting-based magic.

Secondary is alchemy

Yen is on Healing and Curse

Secondary is crafting

Of course with their knowledge, they know all sorts of magic, but they prefer those.

"What is this?"

Yen can feel her skin crawling when she looked at the giant spiders hanging from the trees full of thorns. Some birds don't look bad compared to the insects and plants, other than the fact that they have 4 bigger legs and 6 small legs tucked in. Some even have beaks.

"Ohh those are some promising specimens, especially that one"

He pointed to a centipede that have spider legs and crab claws.

*smack*

"How is this amalgamation good?!?"

Just the sight can haunt her dreams

"Hahaha, come on

Anyways, you can use practice your abilities on them" 

He just laugh it off

The sight still bothers her, but she feels a bit sorry for smacking him hard with her wings and so she just pats the spot before going.

Having nothing to do, Lily goes to his garden that looks like a paradise compared to the outside, but the "edible" part is still questionable.

One more month passed and they are still not completed. The last part is more complicated than that though and so both of them never left the cave and put their efforts into writing the last symbols.

Meanwhile, by accident, some insects gained the regenerative property from their parents because the parents laid eggs before the property disappeared and so the offspring retained them.

Lily also throw away his failed potions and so more mutations appeared.

Unknown to them they created a flood of insects and some amalgamation. Fortunately, the creatures won't leave the area as they desire to protect the cave where the two stay, something they gained because those two were the reason they got stronger. One enchantment won't do something big, but Lily did more than one enchantment and used more than one type of enchantment magic he can use with his limited mana. Yen also used a lot of healing magic. 

Why are they doing those? In hope that if they exhaust their mana it might increase by even if just a small bit.

Because of the complicated process, in the end, they have to stay inside the cave for more years to come because of so many failures in doing the last symbols which result in having to start over again from the start. Occasionally they will go out and Yen eventually comes to like the creatures and they even kept a chicken they found as a pet. 

Strangely the chicken won't show even the bit of mutation which is something they never encountered before in this place.

The chicken is lovely and so they never really bothered the strangeness as they have bigger problems to deal with.

On the outside world, on the other hand, the forest became a mysterious domain people explore
