Chapter 6: Cassidy’s workplace

(Cassidy PoV)

“Fine, I’ll be there in an hour” (Cassidy)

I groaned.

I stared at Arthur. after hearing his story, I couldn’t help by to think, where did the mother and the sisters go?

I’ve been looking around for any kind of info about Jonathan’s family whereabouts after the terrorist attack. I thought I could find out more when he tell his story.

This is going to be a deep rabbit hole to dive into. Mainly because, his mother is a ghost. A ghost is someone who doesn’t have any background. I did my own investigation and found nothing, an enigma.

John, where the hell did you find her? I thought.

This is going to be a problem. For now, I think keeping Arthur under my watch is the best possible action I can do now.

So I opened my phone and send a message to a colleague of mine.

“Hey Iris, I’m going to bring a kid into the station in about an hour, could you analyze him once we get here”

Few second later, a reply came.

“got it… what else do you need”(Iris)

“coffee, lots of them” (Cassidy)

I needed Arthur to be checked but thanks to Hannah’s reaction, I at least could judge Arthur personality to be somewhat safe. Hannah’s power of empathy allows her to understand others better than most people.

She could sense good and bad from people just by being near them, she could tell people if they are lying and if any people share anything about them, she could experience the thing other person been through as if she is that person.

To see her cried and then l hugged Arthur means that Arthur have been through a lot. I wish I could’ve come sooner to pick John’s family.

After a long hug I cough and asked Arthur.

“Boy, do you want to come with me to my office?” (Cassidy)

I invited him, hoping he would join me. I still need to have him checked up and evaluated.

He nodded accepted.

I put down the money plus some extra as tips on the table and stand up. I walked my way to the door and still sees Arthur staring at Hannah.

“Arthur…” (Cassidy)

Arthur snapped back and then followed me. I can see that he, just like many others, has fallen to Hannah’s charm. Well, who could blame them. I just hope in the future he doesn’t do anything stupid, didn’t want to increase my workload again.

Once we got back inside the car, I stared at Arthur

“Don’t you dare do anything stupid” (Cassidy)

I warned Arthur not to do anything stupid. He was startled when he heard that. It was quite funny actually.

I turn on the engine and headed straight to the office. Luckily, no problem on the way there.

After around an hour or so, we finally arrived at the office, it’s the Highland City police station. It was an 8 stories building and in the main station of this city, it is quite busy as usual.

“we are here, come follow me” (Cassidy)

“Okay” (Arthur)

Arthur seems awfully quiet once we got near the station, probably due to the attack a decade ago.

I parked in front of the office, we both got out of the car at walk to the front door. When we got inside, the receptionist greeted us.

“Good morning Mr. Cassidy, the captain has been waiting” (Receptionist )

“Good morning, I will go to my office first. By the way, can you do me a favor and call iris for me, I needed her to come into my office now” (Receptionist)

“Roger Sir…” (officer)

We walked to the lift, once we got inside I clicked on the 5th floor button.

“I didn’t know you were a police, you didn’t look like one Mr. Cassidy” (Arthur)

He told me while waiting in the elevator. It was a usual remark that people told me when they found my occupation.

“maybe because I wasn’t one originally” (Cassidy)

“Really? So what happened?” (Arthur)

“it is a really long story” (Cassidy)

“can you tell me later?” (Arthur)

“No” (Cassidy)

“why not?” (Arthur)

“Too lazy to tell” (Cassidy)

The lift finally opened and I walked into why office which isn’t far.

When we reached the door of my office, I opened it and saw iris and another staff member inside. He was a transfer from another city and has worked here for a while.

“Mr. Anderson?” (Arthur)

Arthur was surprised when he saw the man. The man stared back at Arthur before his own eyes go wide in surprised.

“Wait… Arthur!? Is that you?” (Anderson)

Anderson stand up and get closer to Arthur and hugged him.

“where have you been man? I was looking all over the place trying to find you” (Anderson)

Anderson let go of the hug, stared at Arthur and asked him thank question.

I can see Arthur struggling to make an answer but after a moment, he opened his mouth.

“I traveling across the country after the attack on the shelter” (Arthur)

“I was worried dude” (Anderson)

“Sorry…” (Arthur)

There was a pause between them so I asked Arthur what’s this all about.

“Boy, you know him?” (Cassidy)

I asked Arthur.

“Yes, Mr. Anderson here is the one who saved me during the terrorist attack on new hope.” (Arthur).

That is unexpected, well it is good to know at least. I need to meet with captain first. I looked at iris and she nodded, she knew what to do next.

“so Arthur, the other one is Iris, my assistant. Iris, this boy I picked up last night is Arthur.” (Cassidy)

Iris stand up and waved her hand to the boy.

“I need to meet the captain, Iris and Anderson, I need both of you to watch the boy while I’m gone.”

“yes sir” both of them salute

“Arthur, you can wait here I need to go” (Cassidy)

I left my office and went the captain’s office.
