Running alongside the riverbank and breathing the fresh morning air feels nice. I would often stop by the bridge. There were a lot of cats there, and they seemed to enjoy my company. I mean… I've gotten to know them well in the past few years.

And playing with them like this has sort of becoming a routine. I honestly want to feed them, but feeding strays just leads to problems, Mom said. And well, I would sometimes provide food anyways, just a little though… keep that a secret, okay?

After stopping by and playing with the cats, I was heading home, and on the way back home, I would wake up our neighbor too.

She lives in the room next door in our apartment complex, and I've known her since I was a kid. She is now a college student, and her parents work early in the morning.

They tried waking her up, but… she would fall back asleep. And that's why her parents asked me to do it since we would leave simultaneously.

Usually, when visiting someone, even if you knew them, you would still ring the bell or knock, right? Her parents knew she wouldn't wake up, so they gave me a spare key. And I would just enter. Of course, at first, it was a hurdle for me, but I got used to it.

After waking her up and having breakfast with my family, we all left at the same time. Heading to my school, which was just within walking distance, I spotted a delinquent group, and they would look at me a click their tongue.

Hey, that's rude… well, I wouldn’t say that out loud since it would bring more trouble my way. Looking around me, I can see many people walking in the same direction. Some would glance at the delinquents, and some completely ignore them as if they didn’t exist. I can somehow relate…

But seeing people walk to school with each other did make me feel slightly jealous, maybe… Ok, yes, I am jealous!

Haa… well, I will make a friend eventually, right? I know I can’t just mop around, but I want friends without effort, you know? Just some people I click well with.

During the lunch break, I headed to the back of the school. I’ll get to heal my heart with some Shu, I guess. And as I turned the corner, I saw a blond boy.

He seemed to be injured, and Shu was being annoying to him, trying to lick the wounds… Awww, so cute! Although that is very bad, don't do that…

“Hey Shu, you shouldn’t lick his wounds like that.” I stepped in between them.

“Meow?” Shu turned around and looked at me as I picked him up.

Usually, cats hate being picked up like this, but Shu lets me do it, so it's fine. He would meow and lick my hands. Jeez, I will feed you, only a little okay?

“I’m sorry, was he being annoying?” I asked the boy.

“Ha? Well, yes, the cat was annoying… so what are you doing here?” he replied as he glared at me.

“Oh, sorry, I was about to have lunch, and you?” I asked. He annoyingly looked at me and huffed.

“Tsk, I wanted peace and quiet, that's all,” he said as he got up but then sat back down again.

“Injured?” I asked with a soft tone.

“Yeah, what does it look like, moron?” He replied, glaring at me.

Understandably, you would know if you looked, but hey, sometimes people deny it? Maybe he was one of them, so I didn’t want to just assume, you know?

“You looked injured,” was all I said.

“Haa, what the hell then? Why’d ya ask?” He questioned me.

“I have some bandaids if you want some? Oh, the infirmary is nearby if you want to go there.”

After heading to the infirmary and forcibly treating the boy, he finally began to speak to me.

“...What’s your name?” He asked.

“Hm? Oh, did I not introduce myself? My name is Luke; this is Shu, and yours?”

“... The name is kayle. You’re a guy, right?” Kayle asked me.

“Huh? Well, of course, I am. How rude!” I puffed my cheeks, showing my dissatisfaction.

“Pfft, haha, sooo~ not a guy reaction. But looking closely, I don’t think I've seen girls wearing a guy’s uniform...”

Really now? You…*sigh,  I agree that I may look a little girlish… but I don’t think I act that way, though…

“... Anyways, why were you injured,” I asked, tilting my head.

“I just got into a fight, that's all,” Kayle replied.

“That so?”

“Not surprised? C’mon be a little, at least.”

“I mean, I could tell from looking,” I said nonchalantly.

“Are you picking a fight with me?” Kayle said while glaring daggers.

“... No, please don’t hurt me,” I said jokingly.

“... Anyways, are you here often?”

“Hmm, practically every school day?”

“I see… can I also come?” kayle said as he scratched his cheek.

“Hm? Sure, why not,” I replied with a smile.

“Are you sure you aren’t a girl?” Kayle looked dead straight into my eyes.

“....”

Mom, Dad, I think I just made a delinquent friend.
