It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one most adaptable to change.
By: Charles Darwin
People assume that the world is simple.
That what they can see is all that there is to it.
But that is where most people are wrong.
However only a select few people know the real truths that live within the world. Just under the surface.
And with good reason.
In December 1831 famous British naturalist and one of the father's of modern biology itself Charles Darwin set off on a voyage aboard the HMS Beagle.
His overall duty while aboard the Beagle was to observe and collect various specimens of plants, animals, rocks and fossils wherever the expedition went ashore.
Darwin did this.
Even after his voyage aboard the Beagle became extended turning into a five year trip instead of a two year one like it was originally planned.
The observations and data Darwin collected upon his five-year long voyage aided him immensely in his own personal work and research. Especially his time spent in the Galapagos Islands.
It was in this place where Darwin noticed several plants and animals species had developed considerably differently due to isolation from the mainland. But Darwin also observed that the plants and animals species from each of the different islands in the region were also diverse in several ways despite the islands in the area being situated right next to each other.
Thanks to this discovery Darwin was able to coin the term "natural selection" and also publish his greatest work 'On the Origin of Species' which is considered to be the foundation of evolutionary biology and is still highly reupdated as one of the greatest scientific literary works in mankind's history.
This feat is what elevated Charles Darwin to the status of one the most influential figures in human history.
However where history is concerned there are usually always details left out or hidden.
And in Charles Darwin's case that was so.
What hardly anyone knows is that during his five-year voyage aboard the HMS Beagle Charles Darwin encountered much more than than what he shared with the public.
As he traveled across the world Charles Darwin recorded, observed, and collected data on creatures only spoken about in myths and legends.
Cryptids. Both plants and animals alike.
Species that couldn't possibly exist but did.
Darwin saw all of this, and it amazed him.
It truly filled him with joy and wonder to discover such a hidden side of the world lying right under his nose.
But despite all his wonder in discovering this hidden world Darwin kept the information to himself. Since he knew those in academia and the people at large would not believe his observations without hard evidence. Not where this particular matter was concerned.
Darwin also felt that if he exposed the hidden side of the world to humanity at large there would be dire consequences.
So he kept the information from his five-year voyage about the cryptids of the world to himself. Focusing only on show-casing his theories and findings about normal species of plants and animals to the world.
But that didn't mean Darwin was going to stop investigating cryptids.
Not by a longshot.

In 1859 alongside the publishing of his greatest work 'On the Origin of Species' Charles Darwin also founded and started a private organization. One dedicated to the study of mysteries of the hidden aspect of the world.
The name of this organization was the Darwin Institute.
Alongside several colleagues who came to believe his theories about cryptids and the like, several people who also had personal experiences with cryptids and the like, as well as several wealthy investors, Charles Darwin began delving deep into the truths of the world.
In doing so he coined another term for the various species he encountered.
Variant.
Since the beings he and his colleagues at the institute began researching and encountering where closely related to normal humans, plants, and animals, but just evolved in different manners.
And what beings they were.
Vampires, werewolves, sasquatches, even the Loch Ness monster.
Darwin and his colleagues learned that all these beings were real, but very different than how they were portrayed in fiction, legends, and other sources.
Which only inspired the institute to investigate them even more.
Even after Darwin's death in 1882 the Darwin Institute continued carrying on its founders mission.
But as time passed the Institute came to realize they were not the only ones interested in the variant of the world.
Multiple other organizations were as well. Some governmental and some private. Most of whom did not have good intentions for the variant.
This became apparently clear to the Darwin Institute during World War I & World War II.
In those times variant species from around the world were captured. Either to be experimented on to exploit their unique abilities acquired through natural selection, or to be forced to be living weapons.
Especially human variants.
Born with special powers such as super strength, telepathy, and the ability to produce fire and ice, human variant lived among humanity for centuries.
Records and findings of the Institute even discovered that many of the gods throughout history were just powerful human variant whose abilities allowed them to be worshipped as hire beings.
Needless to say once certain organizations learned of human variant and the powers they possessed, they were often hunted down like animals.
Seeing this the Darwin Institute decided to step up its game.
Spreading out to almost every corner of the world the Institute became a forefront for protecting the various variant of the world as well researching them.
Right after the end of World War II in September of 1945, the Darwin Institute began a massive expansion campaign. Adding new departments.
But one department especially.
A group of highly-trained agents that could combat dangerous groups out looking to harm the variant of the world, as well investigate harrowing and dangerous cases out in the field.
This group of agents are known as Warden.
And these are the chronicles of the cases they investigate, as well as the mission of the Darwin Insitute.
To explore and protect at the same time.
