Honestly, I was more worried about the strange energy boost I’d gotten under Unity Bank. Could it have anything to do with me being close to my father? That being said, was I completely sold on the idea that my alien father was in that capsule, taking an extended nap? I was being bombarded with doubt and a handful of theories, until I opened the door to the debrief hall, noticing Dessi standing just outside it.

When she saw me she rushed right over, the look on her huge eyes concerned. I quickly reassured her with a lighthearted smile, but the worried expression on her face wouldn’t budge.

“Liam, are you in trouble?” she asked me, and followed my pacing as we walked back to the apartment.

“No, we aren’t. I told you there was nothing to worry about.”

She sighed in relief. “Oh gosh, I was so worried!”

I snickered. “Yeah, I know. You were freaking out the entire time we were flying back.”

“Well, you could understand why! But, if you say we are fine, then that is one less burden I have to carry. So, what did you see in there? In the sub floors of the bank? Was it just the capsule?”

“I’ll talk more about it once we go inside.”

I didn’t trust these hall cameras, and I didn’t want TBC knowing every little detail to my past. I’d never trusted The Brother’s Code, and I had a good reason not to. They reminded me of what a refurbished system would look like, or at least, an untested one. Despite their inexperience with super humans, they continued to carry themselves with high regard and high authority. They treated us like disposable side arms, even though as of late, we were anything but disposable. Less and less supes were being hauled into the super hero life, more of them preferring to hide or become super villains. Because let’s face it, no one wants to stick their necks out there and get slaughtered for the sake of humanity.

Even though the majority of us here wanted out for different reasons, we stayed because of the contract. We stayed because of the security, and we stayed because we wanted to perfect our powers. Some of us were lucky enough not to need such intense training, but we were also the ones who were sent out into the field to protect everyone else. And if those learning to use their powers were considered more flawed than useful, they were taken to the pit—AKA, the detention facility.

At least, that was what Pamela had said to Dessi and I yesterday. It was about one in the morning when Dessi and I finally made it back. And instead of finding the girls asleep, I found Aster sitting on the living room couch, watching a gun show from Rynn.

“Hey you two!” Aster beamed.

“What’s going on?” Dessi asked confused, her eyes locked on Rynn flickering through her weapons like she was surfing TV channels.

Aster giggled. “She’s been playing around ever since you two left.”

“How did this happen?!” Rynn cried, amazed by how fluidly she could morph one weapon into the next from thin air.

Was she just now realizing that she had the ability to forge without inanimate objects?

“Liam gave you a gift,” Aster said bluntly, but Rynn looked over to her like she had no idea how. Or maybe my platinum princess didn’t believe it. “He gave all of us a gift! See?” Aster demonstrated, phasing her hand right into the couch back cushion. “I can now portal without needing my dark constructs to teleport me anywhere. I also have curse, but that was from drinking Liam’s blood when he saved me that night.”

Dessi also showed Rynn her new powers, courtesy of Liam’s elixir boost. The empty pans on the stove top started to levitate with the flick of her fingers, Rynn still having a hard time comprehending what was going on. Her wide confused eyes went from the floating pans to me, and them from me to Aster.

“Aww sweetie, are we still having a hard time figuring it out?” Aster cooed to Rynn with devious eyes, Rynn’s face suddenly heating up.

I think that was when she finally got it.

“There’s no way!” she denied, her flustering up causing her to lose the grip on that machine gun she whipped out of thin air. It dropped with a loud thud, and probably dented the floor too, everyone looking up to the forge mistress spiritedly.

“Hey, be careful with that thing. We do have neighbors underneath us,” I teased.

“We must not be frivolous with our boyfriend! I am sure that goes without saying,” Dessi addressed Rynn. “These new powers will eventually load into our SESB. And we don’t want TBC asking too many questions about them.”

“For obvious reasons,” I followed. But judging by that conversation I just had with Pamela, they’d already loaded for three of my girls.

Rynn dematerialized her weapon then gave me a cheeky look. She scoffed, crossing her arms under her breasts. “So what? You expect me to thank you now?”

I smiled. “No, but I’ll take a kiss,” I grabbed her from behind and reeled her soft lips into mine. I caught my little forger off guard, but her body melted into me regardless. “You’re lucky it’s just my cum, or I could have just gotten us into some serious trouble…”

Embarrassed, she bucked me off, Dessi and Aster giggling at her. “Shut up!” It was interesting how she acted with me behind closed doors compared to in front of Aster and Rynn. I guess she didn’t want her guard down in front of just anyone.

“Hey, where did you guys go anyway?” Aster asked me. “The both of you were out for a while.”

“I told you, we went out for training.”

“And the blood?” Rynn said, noticing the grime on my suit.

“It’s actually not fresh,” I lied, looking down and running my fingers through it to show her. Clearly it had dried up now, the flight we took back expediting the process.

Aster grinned. “That was some extended training session.”

“We clocked out early and turned it into our honeymoon,” I said lightheartedly. “We might as well make the best of our 24 hours, right?”

“I doubt it was much of a honeymoon without the good part.”

“We improvised. You seem terribly interested. Feel left out?” I messed with her.

Aster saved the witty comeback and smiled. She rolled her eyes and dropped her cheek against her fist, studying the both of us carefully. “You better start treating your girls all equally. It already feels like you prefer spending more time with miss pinky pie.”

“Untrue!” Dessi cried, quick to defend me. “Truthfully, we were on a—”

“It’s about time we knocked out,” I interjected Dessi before she said too much.

“Together? Dessi is joining you?” Rynn asked.

Yeah, I mean, n-no. She isn’t! It’s just ugh… I promised Dessi that I’d give her a foot massage before bed.” I cleared my throat, hoping they’d buy it.

And then, Aster busted out laughing. “Oh Liam, a foot fetish is nothing to be embarrassed about.” She winked. “I bet Dessi has some pretty little suckable toes, too.”

“That she does, and I can’t wait to enjoy them! Now, if you’ll excuse us.” I dragged Dessi by her wrist, the poor girl shamefully hiding her face before Aster and Rynn.

Heh, honestly, that foot fetish idea wasn’t mine. I just rolled with it. And now, I was curiously considering exploring my options.

I locked the door behind us in my bedroom, then turned to Dessi standing right there behind me with huge revealing eyes. She looked spooked, almost as if she had just suddenly discovered something.

“Dessi?” I whispered, the worry in my voice making her finally say something.

“Your father?!” Her voice broke in a quiet whisper.

“Wait, when did you figure that out?”

“Just now. I am not sure how, but… the information just came to me.”

“Well, that must be the most specific foreshadowing you’d gotten thus far.”

“Only you knew before I did. I’m sorry, Liam.”

“It’s okay, Dessi. You don’t have much control over it, right?”

“No, I don’t. But if we had known earlier, we wouldn’t have had to leave tonight.”

“I don’t think so. I’d still want some answers, especially seeing as the syndicate had dug him out this far already. A couple of officers lost their lives protecting that site.”

“What?” She gasped.

“Yeah. Those super villains from SOS turned ground zero into a blood bath.”

“But when we had arrived, I sensed that all four were alive.”

“A silent but gory kill? It had to have happened right under our noses, Dessi. I didn’t sense any supes being down there either. It could be that my father’s pod was helping them out around the radius.”

“It’s that strong?”

“Mind you, that’s just one feature we had just learned about. And for some reason, Pamela doesn’t seem so concerned.”

“I am sure she is, but she has limitation to where TBC can thread. And this is not one of our jurisdictions.”

“If should be, especially considering how much they’ve done already. I understand that The Brother’s Code has orders, but I expect them to be more aggressive about this. Look where all of this passiveness got us? I mean, there’s no telling what SOS has in store for him.”

“But why is he here? On Earth, more specifically? Did you dream go into detail about that?”

“No, not really. There could be a chance that he’s here because of me. Maybe to even take me back.”

“What? Take you?” Dessi said, her voice saddened.

“In any case, he is still the threat that Sigma-RE was preparing for, and the reason why they tried turning me into a weapon. In my dream, those assholes seemed pretty sure about him bringing a war here. But I feel like there’s more to it than that.”

“What are you planning to do now? We have our hands tied, don’t we?”

“The fact still remains—he is a foe to humanity. And we need to make sure he stays in that capsule. With TBC’s permission or not.”
