Chapter 11: Chapter 11 Horde

They seem to be quite intelligent and they also seem to have a command structure and if my guess is right that mole rat scurrying off down the tunnel is going to get more reinforcements. But that shouldn’t be a problem since I’ve brought 10 MFC Grenades, though I should probably move them from the pouch and attach them to my war belt so I can have quick access to them just in case.

 

So I act on that idea and open the pouch containing the MFC Grenades and start attaching them to the war belt one by one via magnetic attach points. It doesn’t take me more than 40 seconds before I’m done and after that, I start thinking it would be wise of me to eliminate this group before the other one arrives if one even comes. But if I had to guess I would say they most likely will.

 

I pick up a rock from the ground and slowly start moving towards the mole rat group on the left, I then throw the rock further into the tunnel to get them to face the other way. The mole rats then start turning in that direction with their backs now facing me.

 

I pull Guillotine from my back, releasing it from its attachment point and bringing it over to my right side, so I can perform a wide cleave in a moment. I charge the rest of the distance and swing my blade cleaving the three mole rats closest to me, killing them instantly.

 

The mole rats detect me through my heavy movement and start to realize what's happening and turn back towards me rapidly while I continue moving forward performing another swing through two more mole rats. The mole rats are now facing me at this time and when the larger one in the back issues a screech signaling the mole rats to charge.

 

I’m now faced with two more in front of me and five on my right and I don’t want to be facing enemies from two different directions so I continue swinging at the last two cleaving through them. I then turn towards the remaining 5 charging mole rats and take a step forward while making a wide swing actually managing to cleave through four of them.

 

The remaining mole which was the larger of the group continues its charge and wraps its jaws around my thigh not actually managing to do any damage but putting quite a bit of pressure on my leg.

I stab Guillotine into the ground next to me and retrieve the combat knife from my war belt and proceed to stab the knife into what I believe to be its temple ending its life instantly. I kick its body off to the side while grabbing Guillotine by its handle and placing it back on my back.

 

I backed up again to wait but now with my 12G Laser Pistol drawn and grenades ready to be thrown. After about another 15 minutes I what appears to be a small rumble and then they come into view, a horde of about three dozen mole rats. “God damn that’s a shit load of mole rats. I better start lobbing some grenades”

 

I holster my 12G Laser Pistol and start throwing MFC Grenades into the middle of the horde while backing up. They surround the grenade when it lands and it goes off after a moment producing a corona of plasma turning the mole rats near the blast to ash. Then another two go off with the same effect thinning their numbers down to eight left.

 

The mole rats start making panic-sounding squeaks and I take this opportunity to draw Guillotine. After drawing my blade I charge them as fast as I can and take a wide swing at the nearest mole rats, slicing right through two of them. I continue moving forward when one of them leaps at me with its jaws open ready to take a chunk out of me. I react by swinging the flat side of my blade at it, then hearing an audible crunch from the blade impacting its body and seeing the mole rat’s body fly off into the wall of the tunnel.

 

I continue running forward onto the next few mole rats and cleave them through leaving me with the two in front and the one I slammed into the wall. I deal with the two in front and turn around and walk over to the last remaining mole rat that is still alive but barely holding on. I look down at the struggling mole rat and say. “Sorry little guy but it’s a dog-eat-dog world out here and it's either you or me.” I then raise Guillotine above and swing it down onto its neck ending its suffering.

 

I look around after that to see if there is any immediate danger and find none so I take a moment to settle my heart rate while leaning against the tunnel wall. A couple dozen seconds later my heart calms down, I place Guillotine back on my back and move my 12G Laser Pistol from my belt back into its pouch along with the 7 remaining MFC Grenades. “Yeah I think that's enough for today”

 

I start moving through the tunnel towards the mine entrance. When I arrive near it I hear a loud rumbling behind me in the distance along with an alarm going off and then Old Man Pete comes charging over yelling. “BOY GET YOUR ASS INSIDE NOW!” I do as he says and run into the vault while the door starts moving to close behind me but before it does I get a glimpse at the laser turrets making a light show and the gatling turrets start spinning up spewing lead down range at a massive swarm of mole rats charging for the entrance.
