A couple of days later

*brrrt brrrt brrrt* alarm clock sound

*Yawn* “It’s morning already, haa I wish I had a few more hours to sleep but todays a big day since I think it’s about time I confronted the overseer along with my dad about my future plans to venture out into the wasteland along with preventing dad from leaving the vault and getting himself killed by the enclave.

Though I have been hinting at it for years now and they are now well aware of what I've been doing since I didn’t see the need to keep my projects as hidden as they were before because the overseer didn’t seem to be the same person that he was in Fallout 3.

Well, I should get up and get dressed since Amata will be here soon for breakfast along with her dad since I had asked her to bring him along with her for today's discussion. My dad will also be joining us for breakfast as well since he has a day off today so everyone that needs to be here will be here for the discussion that will happen today.

After a few minutes of getting ready I headed out my door into the living room and greeted dad who was making himself a cup of joe. “Morning dad.” “Morning son.” He replied as I took a seat on the living room couch.

Then after a few minutes, his coffee was done so he joined me sitting on the couch when after about a minute of time had passed I brought up that I had something important to discuss today. I also told him that Amata and her father, the overseer, would be joining us today as well since they were needed for this discussion.

After saying that his face immediately changed to a resigned look before he sighed. “Haaa I knew this day was coming. I was hoping you would have held off for a few more years son.” “Well dad I’ve been hinting at it for years now and I’ve been more and more blatant about it lately so you knew the time was fast approaching.” He sighed again before continuing.

“Haa but I would have preferred if you waited till you were 18 before we had this discussion.” “Well if I had you would have been gone since I know you still have the desire to finish your and mom’s dream of bringing pure fresh nonirritated water to the wasteland.” I said before his face changed to a guilty look.

I then continued before he could. “But we can continue this discussion when the other relevant people join us and I have a couple of things to point out with how your and mom’s dream would never change much and bring about any major change to the wasteland other than being a small blimp before things returned to as they were.” I said lastly which put a look of contemplation on his face.

We then went back to relaxing on the couch discussing/chatting about a bunch of varying topics when after several minutes I detected Amata and her father coming down the hallway nearing the entrance of our home.

“Well here they come dad, we better get up and get ready to greet them at the door.” I said while dad had a questioning look on his face. “How do you know that son?” He questioned, which then switched to an ahaa look after I gave him a look. “Ohh your special perception ability son.” He said lastly before I gave him a nod response.

I then got up from the couch and headed to the entrance of our home with dad to greet Amata and her father before inviting them in and getting everyone seated at the table for the scrumptious breakfast I was about to cook up. But as we were inviting them in I did notice my father giving the overseer a look which he then responded with a knowing look and a small nod.

45 Minutes later everyone was finished and stuffed from the large breakfast I had just made when I decided it was about time we had the long time coming discussion on what I plan on doing in the future along with a couple of other things that needed to be talked about.

“Is everyone satisfied with breakfast?” I asked before getting a resounding answer of satisfaction. I then continued. “Well as you all probably know I have something important to discuss with you all and you probably know very well what it is since it’s been a long time coming.” Everyone reluctantly nods in response to what I said along with Amata having a sad look on her face.

“As you all may have guessed I plan to leave the vault at some point, that point actually being about two years from now since my body should have reached full maturity by then. While I would have also made more than enough preparations by then to venture out into the wasteland with relative safety.” I said before continuing.

“I’ve also had visions of potential danger to the vault and to my father as well when he decides it’s a good idea to leave the vault without telling anyone other than Jonas Palmer when I reach the age of 18. That danger is the former government of the United States known as the enclave which if I’m being honest here would have no issue with breaking through the vault's main door and killing most of the residents of the vault if they so pleased.” Which garnered an upset look from the overseer directed at my dad.

Though the vision part is a bit of a lie but they don’t need to know that.

“I’m also not willing to risk letting the people I grew to care about over the years come to face a danger that I could’ve easily prevented given my current abilities. And before you try to refute me on my visions you all are well aware I’m not a normal human since I’ve shown numerous abilities a normal human would not have since I arrived here as a baby to vault 101 so there's a very good chance they could come true.” I said lastly with a serious look on my face while I looked at everyone.

Amata seemed a little teary-eyed after what I had said while my dad and my soon-to-be father-in-law briefly looked at each other before the overseer turned back towards me and said. “Well you said a lot there son and you know we appreciate that you think of us like that and that you are willing to subject yourself to the potential dangers that exist out there though we would much prefer if you didn’t head out into the capital wasteland.”

He paused for a moment before continuing to say. “But as you said before we knew you weren’t normal by any normal human standards so we figured you were going to try and head out into the wasteland at some point since you’ve been making things that don’t have any real use in a vault such as that new vehicle you made recently along with the assortment of weapons you’ve been producing.”

“Though all of us would have liked it if you would have held off this discussion for a few more years but I guess you are reaching your limits in here sooner than I and your father thought you would.” He said lastly before turning to my father and giving him the go-head to take a turn in the conversation.

“As for your visions son, we don't really doubt your visions given the abilities you’ve displayed over the years so if you think there's danger coming then there very well may be real danger approaching us.” My dad said before continuing in a sincere tone.

“Also I apologize to everyone here about my plans to leave the vault without telling you all it was a mistake but I still have a very strong desire to finish the project my late wife Catherine and I were working on before coming here to vault 101 with our son.” He said lastly before I took the reins of the conversion again for a bit.

“Apology accepted dad but I also have some things I would like to add, So dad once you get project purity up and running how would you distribute the water and how would you protect it from other hostile forces such as the enclave? Who wants most of the wasteland dead because of some arbitrary bullshit reason that all wastelanders are expendable mutants and project purity would be a great way of dispersing a poison to kill off most of the few remaining humans we have left.” I asked which put a thoughtful look on my father's face before he sighed while saying.

“If I’m being honest here after thinking about it over the years and with a bit of influence from you son I don’t think my old team and I would’ve really been able to control it and use it for the purposes of bringing life back to the wasteland since we would’ve had a huge target painted on our backs that would’ve eventually ended up with us being attacked by raiders or some other group at some point.”

"Well, I was hoping some of my qualities would start to rub off on you dad. But I also didn't see any reasonable way of how it could possibly work out in the end unless you had the power to control and protect it from others." I said before continuing on back to my own future situation after going over a few more points with dad.

“I also don’t really plan on leaving the vault forever. I will just be spending a majority of my time out in the wasteland getting things set up so I can take care of the enclave and prevent them from causing any irreversible harm to anyone here and the general wasteland populace.”

“And when I think things are somewhat safe I would like to try my hand at bringing this country back from the ashes whether that be as the former United States of America or a new country altogether since the former had its fair share of issues that I would like to resolve such as the constant corruption it faced from politicians.”

“Lastly, I have taken the liberty to create a ground penetrating encrypted radio so I can talk to you guys daily just that the encryption will change weekly to keep our conversation safe and secure since you never know who's listening.” I said lastly before everyone paused for a bit in thought.

The overseer then continued the discussion. “Well those are some lofty goals there son and you very well may be the one to accomplish them one day and I can’t really stop you even if I would like to so you have my permission to come and go as you please as overseer of this vault as long as you keep regular contact with us. Oh and before I forget you must come back and make it official with my Amata when you are the age of 18.” He added lastly with a grin which got Amata riled up with a bright red face now facing down towards the table.

Everyone got a laugh out of it except Amata but she was secretly smiling with her face down so I know she wasn’t averse to it. After I agreed to his terms we discussed a few other things regarding my and Amata’s future before then we wrapped things up finally and everyone headed out to do whatever they had planned for the day which for me was spending the rest of the day relaxing with Amata.
