I got off my bed and headed over to my toy box and storage cabinets. I unlock the ones I need access to and am presented with an assortment of gear and different materials.
I pick up and wear my body armor first then tie my boots up, grab my war belt and loop it around my waist. I then grab both of my combat knives and put one in the boot sheath and the other in the sheath on my war belt.
After that, I proceed to grab 10 MFC Grenades and put them in the pouches attached to the war belt. I take my 12G Laser Pistol and hide it in one of the larger pouches on the war belt. After that, I take my Altyn helmet and place it on my head with the visor flipped up. Lastly, I take hold of my blade Guillotine and attach it to the magnetic attachment point on my back.
I give myself a once over and notice I should probably bring some energy bars and a container of water just in case, so I go to one of my shelf stable food containers and grab a few energy bars. I then make my way through my home to the fridge and grab a large container of water. After making sure I have everything I’m going to need I exit into the gray vault hallways and move towards the vault mines.
After quite a bit of distance, I arrive near the vault mine's entrance and workshop area. I take a look around the area and see a rough-looking old man relaxing in a comfy chair by the controls for the vault mine doors. I think to myself that that is probably the guy I want to talk to.
I walk up to him and ask while pointing at the door. “Hey old man, can you open that door for me.” He gives me a look and responds jokingly. “Who are you calling old youngin, I’m a young 65 and my name is Old Man Pete but only I get to call myself old got it!” I chuckle. “Sure sure old man Pete.” The old man continues. “As for this here door, the answer would be no unless you’re on the list of allowed entry. By the way youngin, what’s your name?” I then tell Old Man Pete my name. “My name is Harold Todd Woods.” The old man gives a nod at hearing my name and says. “Then in that case yes, since I’ve gotten word you would be coming and to let you through.”
The old man pauses for a moment and continues with a serious look on his face. ”But I must warn you, this door leads into the old mines and no one really knows how deep they go since there are tons of mole rats always digging and we don’t really go in there much anymore other than to push them back if they start getting too close to the vault.”
I take a second to process the information and respond with. “Yeah that’s fine, I should be able to handle myself pretty well, as long as I don’t get surrounded and go too deep.”
The old man responds with a smile. “Well you look like you’ve come prepared youngin, but if shit hits the fan make run for the doors since we have plenty of turrets in case of a mole rat horde was to ever happen.”
I give Old Man Pete a nod in acknowledgment and he turns around to press a big red button which starts producing a chirping sound. After a few moments, the doors start to open with a metal grinding sound and 10 seconds later the doors settle into the open position. I look over to Old Man Pete and thank him for his help and he responds with. “No problem youngin, just don’t go and get yourself killed.” I responded with an okay gesture.

I flip down the visor and turn the light on my altyn helmet and walk through the large doors leading into the mines while also feeling impressed with how thick they are. After entering into the actual mines I scan my surroundings to get a layout of the mine and I don’t see any immediate threats so I look back at the entrance ceiling and walls and can’t help but give a whistle while commenting.
*Whistle*
“There ain’t no damn way any mole rats are getting through that or even a pack of death claws for that matter.” I look at the sheer number of turrets and there must’ve been about 2 dozen laser turrets along with 2 large gatling-style ballistic turrets. “Well, I won't have to worry about shit, if I run back here with a horde of mole rats following behind me.”
I turn around towards the main tunnel and start heading down it. About 100 feet in or so I start to notice small pockets of earth and rock missing along the tunnel's surface. I take my 12G Laser Pistol out of the pouch on my war belt and place it on one of the magnets on the belt for ease of access in the event that I need it.
I continue heading further in when the pockets turn into tunnels of varying sizes ranging from 3 to 4 maybe 5 feet in height. I then think to myself that I probably should’ve made those caltrops for putting in the mole rat holes in case they come from my flank.
But it's too late to turn back now, so I continue on through the dark tunnels and eventually I start to pick up clawing and chittering sounds up ahead. I pause and look to see if I can locate what is making the sound, I spot a group of about three mole rats digging around the floor and walls of the tunnels searching for food I guess. They also seem unbothered by the light shining at them, so I guess they’re a blind variant of mole rat.
I then decide how I’m going to put them down, after a couple of seconds of thought I decide I will attempt to sneak over and kill the two that are grouped together first with one wide side swipe and then charge the last one head on with a vertical cleave from top to bottom.
I reach my right hand behind my shoulder and get a solid grip on Guillotine’s handle and give it a tug releasing it from the magnet holding it in place on my back. I raise the blade above me and bring it down to my front and grip it with my left hand as well.
