Chapter 8

An explosion much like a pipe bomb went off. It wasn't difficult to dodge. The Ki blast containing those energies was slow enough that she could project its trajectory. Both fighters shot forwards through the dust created by the explosion, their arms impacting each other in practiced, quick blows. Each strike created a loud smack of flesh on flesh; they were both supernaturally powerful. The Ki within them both make opposing small auras. In the grand scheme, the two were still on the lowest spectrum in the universe. Sweat came from both fighters, one being a very pale horned alien with a tail. The other is a red lizardman clad in the red garb of the Lab's security forces.

The duo continued like this, exchanging blows rapidly at superhuman levels. Bruises appear even if a strike was properly moved out of the way or blocked. The final strike was done with a quick combo from the white alien. The opponent attempted to downwards hammer-blow her. Instead, she shoved herself close and forced her hands through the gap created by the hammer fist, pulling it apart from the inside before circling her hands to gather her force.

"HAA!!"

BOOM!!

Her fists shot forwards, and an impact was given to the lizardman's chest, followed by an eruption of dark purple ki. Her opponent's clothing exploded around the impact zone as they were sent shooting several feet away and came to a stop on the floor. He didn't move, just groaned loudly.

Genesis winces. "Oh shit, are you alright? I was trying something new." He jogged over, panting from the previous intense fight. The lizardman grunted with disdain, "I think I broke a rib, asshole." He was breathing heavily but waved off Genesis' worries. "Hard to believe you've only been at this for a week. I'd have had you." Genesis laughs, "Yeah, sure, perhaps you would've, but the fact remains. I won. That's three to three now. Payback for yesterday when you nearly bit my arm off in that grapple."

The lizardman was named Gree. I've been training using him as my sparring partner for the past week. Sure, it's not that asshole Dalton, but Gree was just a grunt. Even then, he is an excellent fighter. He was stuck with me as a partner because I needed a partner more on my level to gain experience. In fact, it was thanks to Gree I could use Ki in the first place. Ki apparently had a mental component to it. It was why she couldn't use it while she was still...Dalton. The session with turning Emotional Dampening off was more important than she thought.

Gree was ordered to beat the shit out of Genesis until she learned how to use Ki. Odd way of training without even explaining anything. Turns out, though, she didn't even need an explanation. She had a burning hot amount of it always there. Her body was bruised to purple before she could finally find the courage to continue. It was only like putting a match to an open propane tank; it exploded within her. The normal latent energy within her body filled her with vitality. Genesis could always feel it, but it wasn't useable. It was just a trickle of what was actually within her. She still lost that fight, though.

Ki was Life Force. It was the courage to keep fighting even to the death. It was the Vigor of the body. It was physical and mental energies combining together as a power beyond the limits of the mortal body. To train was to increase the amount of internal Ki the body can hold. To train was to increase the control one could have of the Ki within their bodies. It took a lot of effort, but with Genesis' enhanced body, using Ki became more like second nature. Turns out Ki is one of those things that, if unlocked, seems to enhance the body naturally. It's how Genesis also figured out how to use Psychic Force. It was purely mental, wherein Ki was a mix of physical and mental.

Genesis takes a moment to look at the stats she's obtained over the rough week of brutal training.
