Jiang Wangshu glanced at the sky. It was still warm and sunny in the morning, but at noon, dark clouds covered the entire city. The damp wind flowing through the windows brought an inexplicable feeling of ease along with it.
Jiang Wangshu closed the windows and touched the thermos in his hands. This thing carried the nutritious meal he had made for Duan Xiuze, but now Duan Xiuze couldn’t even eat it. He was sent to the hospital after the car accident, and he’s currently in the ICU for observation. He had been unconscious for around three to four days.
The driver’s eyes fell on the rear-view mirror, Jiang Wangshu’s face was clearly shown on it. His appearance was undoubtedly beautiful, too much so, even. It was more than enough to be a star, but since he was a little tired, the dark blue under his eyes were more apparent.
The driver looked back and whispered, “Sir, we’re here at the hospital.”
Jiang Wangshu picked up the big thermos, got out of the car and walked straight towards the ward.
As he walked in, he immediately noticed that the bed was empty. Duan Xiuze wasn’t there.
Jiang Wangshu was silent for a moment before calling the nurse, who was surprised and said, “I don’t know. I’ll help you look at the monitoring cameras.”
After that, he hurried to the nurse station and checked the monitors. He saw Duan Xiuze waking up at 11:00. After lying on bed for ten minutes or so, he got up, found his clothes, put them on and went out.
The nurse oddly praised, “He’s in good health. He could walk away only after a few days of recovery.”
When Jiang Wangshu noticed that Duan Xiuze took his phone with him, he immediately called him. Seeing that it was connected, Jiang Wangshu asked him, “Where have you been? Come back quickly.”
Duan Xiuze’s hoarse voice sounded from the other side of the phone, “… Who are you? No, it doesn’t matter. Do you have money? Come to the noodle shop opposite the hospital. Help me pay.”
When he was done, he seemed to talk to the noodle shop owner, “Wait a bit, Boss. I’m really not a dine-and-dasher. Do I look like one to you? Aren’t I too handsome for that? Why don’t you put on your glasses and have a closer look…”
“…” Jiang Wangshu had nothing to say.
He put away his phone and walked out of the hospital with the thermos.
After a few minutes, he found Duan Xiuze, who was still wrapped in bandages sitting in the noodle shop, spinning chopsticks. He was uncharacteristically good at it. There were three chopsticks spinning on his long and husky fingers, but there was no sense of stagnation. The children of the noodle shop owner were obviously impressed.
Jiang Wangshu walked up to him, knocked on the table and said, “Okay, go back to the hospital now.”
After that, he took out a hundred yuan note and gave it to the owner.
The owner took the money and went to go give Jiang Wangshu the change.
Jiang Wangshu raised his chin to Duan Xiuze and said, “Keep it.”
Duan Xiuze didn’t reach out. He looked at Jiang Wangshu and stammered, “Ji– Jiang Wangshu? How could it be you?”
Jiang Wangshu frowned, “What’s wrong with you?”
Duan Xiuze took out his phone and redialed the previous number.
As Jiang Wangshu’s phone rang, he stared at Duan Xiuze strangely, “What are you calling me for?”
Duan Xiuze was silent. He looked down at the contact name, “Charming Kitty,” and looked at the expressionless Jiang Wangshu.
Duan Xiuze: “….”
Duan Xiuze took Jiang Wangshu’s phone while he had his guard off. He then saw the caller ID. It read, “Hubby”
Duan Xiuze: “???”
Duan Xiuze: “!!!”
Jiang Wangshu was a bit stunned when he saw his face. He didn’t know what was wrong with him. He took back his phone and said, “If you’re full, go back to the hospital. You hurt your brain. The doctor said that the brain is a precision instrument. You should have it rechecked after you wake up. Don’t waste time.”
Duan Xiuze reached for his hand, “Wait, wait, shouldn’t you explain to me what you saved my number as first?”
Jiang Wangshu glanced at the name on his phone and said, “What about it? You’re the one who changed it for me.”
Jiang Wangshu tapped on his phone a few times, changed the name back, and showed Duan Xiuze, “This is what I originally named it.”
Duan Xiuze saw that it read, “Annoying One”.
“…” He mumbled, “You’re the annoying one.”
“Just take the money,” Jiang Wangshu exasperatedly said.
Duan Xiuze felt a little dizzy. He didn’t have the energy to argue with Jiang Wangshu right now. He took the change from the noodle shop owner, stuffed it into his pants pocket, and went to the hospital with Jiang Wangshu for a reexamination.
Duan Xiuze glanced at the thermos in Jiang Wangshu’s arms and casually asked, “Did Aunt Wen make it for me?”
At this moment, Jiang Wangshu was finally sure that something was wrong. He looked back at Duan Xiuze, puzzled, “No? I did.”
Duan Xiuze was shocked, “You can cook?”
Jiang Wangshu stopped and stared at Duan Xiuze. “Did you hit your head too hard? You couldn’t have turned even dumber, could you?”
Before Duan Xiuze could respond, Jiang Wangshu raised two fingers and asked, “How many is this?”
“Ha?”
As Jiang Wangshu silently stared at him, Duan Xiuze deliberately raised two fingers with a silly smile on his face, “Ah yeah!”
Jiang Wangshu stretched out his hand and pressed Duan Xiuze’s finger in an unnatural direction. He howled in pain, “Stop, stop, are you trying to kill me?”
Jiang Wangshu released his hand and indifferently said, “Go get it checked.”
Duan Xiuze held the finger that Jiang Wangshu pressed and behaved like a big dog as he followed behind him.
Jiang Wangshu took Duan Xiuze to finish the CT scan. As the doctor observed the film, he pondered for a moment before saying, “There’s a congestion with a diameter of about 1.44×2 near the left side of the hippocampus, which has oppressed it. Do you still remember who you are?”
Duan Xiuze said, “I remember.”
“Do you remember your family members?” The doctor asked.
Duan Xiuze said, “I remember.”
The doctor thought for a while and said, “Then the problem shouldn’t be too big. Wait for the congestion to be absorbed naturally. However, you’d better not do strenuous exercises for six months to a year.”
Duan Xiuze nodded obediently.
Out of the consulting room, Jiang Wangshu took the CT scan results and intently looked at it. Duan Xiuze asked, “Is it good?”

Jiang Wangshu said, “I didn’t expect your brain to look good.”
“My head looks good and round. When I was young, my mother would turn it over for me.”
Jiang Wangshu glanced at him and returned the piece of paper to him. “Put it away. If you stay in the hospital for a few days, I’ll send you your three meals.”
Duan Xiuze felt something wrong, “Wait, what three meals would you give me?”
Jiang Wangshu stopped to look at him. “You don’t want it?”
Duan Xiuze said, “With Aunt Wen and my mother taking care of me, why would I let you do it?” He eyed Jiang Wangshu suspiciously, “Wouldn’t you poison me?”
Jiang Wangshu’s heart suddenly skipped a beat. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. As he reopened them, he slowly asked, “Do you know why I made it for you?”
He raised his left hand that had a platinum ring on his ring finger.
Duan Xiuze was surprised. He said, “Oh shit? When did you get married? Congratulations!”
“Look at your left hand.”
Duan Xiuze looked down and saw that it was bare, but there was an obvious ring mark left behind. He was still confused and asked, “What do you want me to see?”
Jiang Wangshu said, “I put your ring away.”
After that, he took a ring out of his pocket, grabbed Duan Xiuze’s hand, and put it on. It fits perfectly. Just by the material, it was the same as Jiang Wangshu’s.
Duan Xiuze pondered for a moment and stammered, “You’re not going to say that I married you, are you?”
“You did.” Jiang Wangshu replied dryly.
Duan Xiuze: “….”
Jiang Wangshu pulled out the ring and asked, “How old are you right now?”
“… Seventeen.”
“The age when we fought like cats and dogs,” Jiang Wangshu recalled.
Duan Xiuze didn’t care about what he said, he still couldn’t believe it. “Are we really married?”
“It’s true. If you don’t believe me, I’ll bring you the marriage certificate later this evening.”
Duan Xiuze was speechless. “What the?? Why would I marry a dead-eyed fish like you?”
“Sorry, you not only married me, but you ran away from home to do so. You even stole your household registration book to officiate it.”
He didn’t know what came to Jiang Wangshu’s mind, but the corners of his lips were slightly raised, revealing a fleeting smile.
Duan Xiuze was stupified, “No way?!!!”
Jiang Wangshu’s eyes fell on him. He straightened his face as he said, “What’s impossible? Anything is possible. Go back to the hospital bed and lie down.”
Without looking back, he walked into Duan Xiuze’s ward, put the thermos on the table, and said to Duan Xiuze, who came in directly behind him, “I made you sea cucumber porridge to replenish blood and heal the wounds. Eat it if you like. Don’t pour it out if you don’t, I’ll take it back.”
“I won’t eat it. Take it away.”
Duan Xiuze thought about how he had married the man in front of him. He just felt that it couldn’t be. You know, this man used to be his sworn enemy, and now he’s telling him that they’re married. It was bizzare, no matter how he thought of it.
After he heard it, Jiang Wangshu really lifted up the thermos and said, “Then forget it. I’ll eat it myself.”
With that, he lifted his feet and left.
“Wait, wait!” Duan Xiuze hurriedly stopped him.
Jiang Wangshu paused his steps to look back at him. “What is it?”
Duan Xiuze perplexedly said, “You’re not even going to try to persuade me? Just take it away like that? You’re lying to me, aren’t you? We’re not actually married, right?
“Lie to you? Sea cucumbers are ridiculously expensive. This bucket alone costed 259. I’d cook it for you if we weren’t married? Dream on.” With that, he walked away without looking back.
Duan Xiuze, “….”
He defeatedly accepted his answer, but then wondered, How did I end up marrying someone like him?
Duan Xiuze picked up his phone, wanting to call his mother, but he stopped when he thought of what Jiang Wangshu had said.
If he ran away from home to marry Jiang Wangshu, just like he said, this phone call would simply be like poking a hornet’s nest.
At the age of 17, Duan Xiuze wasn’t very close to his mother. He was a rebellious teenager, so he temporarily suppressed the idea of calling her and went to contact his best friend.
This phone call let Duan Xiuze completely understand the situation.
What Jiang Wangshu said was true. He not only encouraged Jiang Wangshu to steal the household registration book, but even took it from his mother’s safe. He went to the Civil Affairs Bureau at 4:00 a.m. and became the first couple to get married on Monday!
Not only that, he also secretly transferred all of his property and let his mother freeze his bank card, freeze it to death.
Duan Xiuze: “….”
He then blurted out, “He wouldn’t poison me, would he?”
His best friend joked, “What is it? You’ve been away from home for two years and have cut off contact with us. Why, you’ve resolved the Gu? You want to go home?”
Duan Xiuze wasn’t very happy when he listened to his sarcastic tone. “How could that be? He loves me so much, he made me sea cucumber porridge today. Have you ever eaten sea cucumber porridge?”
“… So you pulled me out of the blacklist and asked me so many questions just to show off?”
Duan Xiuze gloated, “Yep.”
“I can tell you that your mother is still threatening you now. If you don’t go home, you won’t have a share in the Duan family.”
“Money might be valuable, but love is more valuable.”
And so his best friend simply hung up on him.
Duan Xiuze snorted. With a hint of triumph he said to himself, “Couldn’t handle my joke so he left, huh?“
