"Patrik! " Some woman at the front door of the hospital shouted Patrik while everyone looked at her, she was the famous Joana Claudie Darche. Patrik didn't anticipate her being in the hospital to pick him up right away; he had assumed he would have shown up the following day. Besides he was glad to see her but he remembered Armin's remarks days earlier he would say it to himself in front of everybody, but he thought of it a dumb way to disgrace himself in front of everybody just by saying it. Joana and Patrik discussed where they should eat because it is noon and she is hungry after waiting on him for an hour. Patrik suggested eating at a local restaurant in the city where he needs to go home after dining as the doctors advise him to do. Joana agreed to go to a local restaurant, but as she is driving, her mind is racing with questions like, "Did Patrik change in a short time after his parents' death after all these years?" "Did I make the right decision to take him into my care and treat him well?" " Have I forgiven his mother, Helena? I just regret picking a fight with her in college because now look at me taking care of his child." When they arrived at the restaurant, Joana asked the host if there were any tables available, and the person replied yes, but he added that the food would take 30 minutes to serve because they had so many customers. The host took them to their table and they sat the whole restaurant was busy as usual as people are eating and talking about their businesses, while Patrik just looked at the menu and Joana picked something that he enjoys when he was a youngster. They talked about how things had been going for the past few days; she said everything was fine and told him that some of his neighbors were worried after hearing what had happened to him.
"So, I heard from others that you fainted since you were having an anxiety attack, correct?"
After hearing Joana's query, Patrik sighed, nodded, and said, "Yes, I admit I collapsed it's not my fault it's all my memories in my brain collapsing with me." Joana expected this response and realized that Patrik had this in the past after his parents died.
"I understand and see why it's not your fault you're having these sorts of attacks, plus the hospital bills that I have to pay because I'm your guardian in the first place."
"Yeah..." Patrik remembered Armin's proposition from a few days before, "Armin asked me to make you change my guardianship to his authority."
Joana hadn't heard such a proposition in years because he had been orphaned at an early age, so she responded with a quick, "No..."
"No?" Patrik in his mind was in doubt, he was right the idea won't work but Joana was thinking now about what he is gonna do with him when Armin asked him about it.
" Well let's talk about it when we go home tonight. And you know, Patrik, I hadn't thought about it in years. Since that day with Armin as well as others, they've been arguing about what to do with you and who would be your guardian."
"Armin in the past has told me stories you were amazing and horrible too however you were pushing me to the greatest or the limits and others view it as abuse but I see it previously when I was younger similar attitude but I understand your objectives and adapted. Look at me, I'm fantastic at it, but I'm not yet among the top Pianists in our region."
"I know, but I have to train you and yet I have to prepare you for the Chopin Competition in 1965, and we have three years, three whole years left to make preparations for you, but the other fact is that Armin and your friend see me as a monster, but in actual fact, I regret what I've done in my past, especially during my college years, which Armin has already told you about."
"You expected it to Armin to tell me these bad sides of you? So I can turn against you?"
"No, all of these students that I have produced required patience to succeed, and the majority of them failed due to their being spoiled brats like Sybil your friend, but I doubt you would trust this and I'm telling you she was good at the piano but she wants her own style rather than embracing the teaching's so she can succeed in a competition. Besides, you are my most successful product so far since you sound like your father would do using the piano as an extension of emotions, but there are others who are successful but I can't count how many."
"Sybil, I didn't expect her to say that, but she's my best friend. Can you tell me why she didn't accept your beliefs in the first place?" Patrik was confused and questioned Joana.
"Previously your parents were killed in an accident. I was her teacher for a few years, and she copied a few techniques that I used frequently before, but she wanted her own approach to impress somebody she liked. I can't blame her, but I can blame her family for how she was reared."
"I see, I guess that's why she is more concerned about me than Jan she likes me since we were kids I can say."
"Yes, but do you have feelings for her?" Joana groaned and nodded. "
Patrik couldn't help but laugh as he sarcastically responded, "Not at all, just not the right time but as friends. Yes, it's fine."

A few minutes later, food was delivered, and they both ate their meals while conversing about life in general and their future plans. As a pianist, Patrik wanted to follow in his mother's footsteps as the pride of Poland, but his mother was unable to do so owing to missed opportunities in competitions. On the other hand, Patrik's father succeeded but was disqualified from one of the national competitions during the preliminary rounds. But by leaving his son some letters for him to read in the future, he expressed his desire for him to succeed him. On the other hand, Joana was just trying to teach him how to play the piano the best she could while also encouraging him to become a teacher and showing both him and how his parents played, particularly his father's style and ability to interpret the music. As they were finishing their meal, Joana requested the bill from the waiter. Since they totaled the entire meal, it took a while for the waiter to bring the check. They immediately left the restaurant after Joana paid the check and headed back home. Even though Patrik should have been practicing the piano in the afternoon, he was instead considering his friends—especially Sybil—and Armin's suggestion to switch guardianship. He now understands that Sybil was probably secretly into him. All of these thoughts were racing through his head, but Joana knew this as she would have anticipated. She wasn't planning anything other than getting him ready for a competition that would be coming up soon, but she needed to teach him how to play the Chopin Concerto flawlessly for the school recital. Was I correct to tell him the truth? Joana's mind was still asking the same questions it had previously. Her residence was kilometers outside of the city and took her an hour to drive there. The house was Patrik's father's ancestral home; it was a small manor that had been well-kept over the years. He hadn't been here in weeks because, prior to the incident, he had been residing in a dorm at the school. In addition, he was essentially the next in line to inherit the home, but because he was only 17 years old, he was ineligible to do so. Patrik walked straight to his room and sat down next to his upright piano, a 19th-century building that had once belonged to his father's family, who were both musicians and instructors. He thought back on the memories of his parents, which he loves as highly as his playing, and had the impression that they were always at his side even after they had passed away. The space was virtually as large as a study, but there was only the piano and shelves full of music notation from his father's collections by composers like Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, and Beethoven. He was looking through the shelves for that sheet... Chopin's piano concerto No. 1, which he was rehearsing alone and without the orchestra by mentally memorizing the score piece. He saw the book was titled Chopin's and Liszt's famous works, and he was overjoyed that his father had purchased this before his death. When he first opened the book, he spotted a letter on the first page. He had no idea because this was his first time checking his father's collection of scores and pieces in this room, which was once a study room and is now a bedroom with a library of music sheets beside him. Wait, this is his letter to confessing his feelings to my mother? I thought I was told they confessed physically. Patrik questions himself. He read the letter and the contents of it shook Patrik.
Dear Anita,
I'm sending this letter to you to express my gratitude for your presence in my life and to let you know how very much you mean to me. I never imagined someone like you would exist for me. I don't regret saying you however I think since you are the finest things that have ever occurred to me in my life.
I've worked hard to hone my piano talents simply to impress you, but you didn't seem to take any of them seriously. I was first enraged. I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted. I wasn't sure if I wanted to try again and give you my whole attention. I thus made the decision to become close to you as a friend in order to get to know you better as a person. You had the kind of qualities I really liked: you appeared cute, kind, and amusing. I so decided to take a chance and meet with you.
Now that more time has gone by, I've learned new things about the person I've become. You have genuinely altered me. I'm still afraid since I'm experiencing a strong, inexplicable emotion in my heart. Since I genuinely don't know how you feel about me, I don't want to make you tell me how you actually feel. When you love and trust me, I want to know that you mean it. All I need in return is that you to demonstrate your concern for me and share my level of trust in you. Will you take me?
From Dawid
Later, Joana walks into Patrik's room and wonders why he didn't answer the door when she knocked. Patrik was astonished when she walked up to him from behind and explained why he had disregarded the knock. He was concentrating and wondering whether this was the letter his father had written to ask Anita to be his wife in the future. He still recalls Patrik's father from earlier, but Joana grabbed the paper and read it herself. Before getting married, they were studying abroad in London at the time. She recalled everything that had occurred in London, including the explosions and the act she committed to breaking her connection with Patrik's mother, Anita. She said, "No," to himself and continued, No, I just don't want to recall everything about London. I regret all the things but have I forgiven her after 17 years? Although Patrik was perplexed and shocked to read what he had thought, she asked Joana to put the letter in the book and suggested that they have a snack while talking about the matter. She then agreed and put the letter back where it belonged. They ended up going to the dinner table, and Joana ended up going to the kitchen to look for some snacks like bread. They both took seats, and Patrik spoke first.
"So, tell me everything that occurred during your time in college. I noticed before opening the letter that it was from London, which is?"
"We didn't tell you that you were born in London, but your parent's met there while your mother, as Armin told you before, was in eastern Poland and experienced Stalin's Brutality during the 2 or so years of "Peace" there but ultimately moved to London before the invasion started," Joana sighed as she drank the water and continued to spoke, "Your father was born in western Poland, more specifically in the area close to Warsaw, where we currently reside. They left during the beginning of the German invasion, leaving some relatives and maids behind to care for the home, which has, as far as I can remember, been used by the Germans as a field headquarters."
"You were upset when you learned that my father had begun dating my mother, correct? But you weren't aware that they were dating in the public eye before?"
She nodded and said, "Armin probably knows a thing or two about this and tucked this under the rug for later." She ate the bread and said, "Well you see this is today I knew after reading the letter, they were rumored dating covertly but I simply passed it off as a fake."
After eating the bread and sighing, Patrik had the thought: I'm more confused now than I was before Sybil is probably on me, and the whole truth has just been revealed to me. After finishing the bread, he turned to Joana and asked, "Besides, what was Armin's prior history? "
Then Joana said, "Well, Armin's Father is a German, which was making everyone in the neighborhood suspicious, but his Mother was a quite a shy one but she wasn't a musician like his Husband is," and Patrik understood what she was thinking to herself, "A fair question Patrik."
Patrik then enquired, "How about London? Particularly, why did Armin arrive there and what was his backstory than the history in here?"
"But for Armin, his story was particularly interesting, His father didn't like the ruling party of Germany and he was sent there for other reasons and ended up leaving Poland during the early weeks of the invasion," Joana recalled. "Well, you know that we became best friends with your mother when we arrived in London and other than I count 5 of them in the group the other three either stayed in London or in other places in the world. In addition, we weren't aware of the reasons until he revealed it at a party while somewhat inebriated. 1945 saw the conclusion of the war after its announcement."
After some time had passed, Patrik realized the full picture and that Armin had told him the proposal to help him develop his skills by making him do things he didn't want to do. When Joana questioned him about it, Patrik told her to forget it because he had just realized that Armin was using him as a tool in the greater picture. After conversing for a few hours until dusk, Joana asked the maids to prepare them some dinner, then Patrik turned on the radio to hear the government-run media reporting on the situation in the west. According to the broadcaster, the situation is so chaotic that it makes the world appear to be on its knees. However, Joana was paying close attention to this because she had been in London for years and had heard tales of how the war was being fought on the front lines, whereas Patrik was unaware of all of these. The radio was playing Chopin's Nocturne Op. 48 No. 1 as the dinners were being delivered, and as the program concluded for later night news, Patrik noticed that this was his father's rendition of the composition. However, Joana simply feels that recalling all of her former regrets proves that her college outburst was unable to make her forget any of them. The Nocturne was finished by the radio, which then switched to another song, and Patrik returned to his room to work on his piano skills while Joana... She is still pondering what she should do tomorrow.
