“Young and handsome… It’s the best.”

She mumbled sarcastically under her breath to what the doctor said. She was perplexed with the current situation that she had to consider the merits of younger people. On the other hand, the doctor liked it because he knew the charm of younger men and believed it would be mutually beneficial for both groups. Seyeon wondered if the doctor was younger than her based on his reaction. In any case, she chose not to fight because it seemed reasonable to assume that a younger one would be better. 

The doctor’s lips gently twitched as Seyeon expressed her feelings through a variety of facial expressions. He had a cold look when she first entered the treatment room, so Seyeon wore the same expression as well. Eventually, he became more relaxed and realized she wasn’t good at putting on a cold expression.

Indeed, Im Seyeon’s case was difficult for him as a person in charge of education. She had lived as a Beta for a longer period of time. She would have a limited understanding of the severity of the situation of an Omega. It would be more difficult to accept the reality if she had become an Omega overnight. “Of course. Pheromone compatibility is more important than personality compatibility.”

The doctor’s smile widened as Seyeon lifted her eyebrows. The expression on her face clearly showed she would listen to all the compatibility options presented to her. The scent of mint had been enveloping the treatment room subtly, and suddenly became a little thicker at that point. Seyeon jerked her gaze to the window. The degree to which the window was opened remained relatively constant. Perhaps there was a sprayer that worked automatically to cover up scents? Seyeon looked at the pictures on the screen without thinking too hard. However, the scent didn’t feel unpleasant or offensive.

There was one photo in particular that caught her eye among the many that filled the screen.

Dark tanned skin matched his black hair. His eyes were the most seductive ones. He had a face that explained for itself why Alphas were said to be genetically superior. If he looked this good, it was obvious that he would have an advantage with that alone. Furthermore, he stood out among the other alphas.

The big and clear eyes were vibrant as if they were the only ones with different ideas and solutions. His long and concave nose were artistically molded. The brows were perfect as if they had been delicately embroidered. His tan skin looked so sweet that she thought it would taste like chocolate when she licked it.

He was attractive enough to be admired, but not the type she preferred. It was burdensome for a person to put on a strong sense of pressure with their presence, regardless of their appearance. She assumed that just being around him would exhaust her.

It could just be prejudice, but his strong personality and presence gave her the impression of arrogance and self-centeredness. Seyeon took the joke about physiognomy being science very seriously.

[DEFINITION: Physiognomy is the science behind assessing an individual’s character or personality from their outer appearance. Usually using the face because of the facial features and expressions. ]

Her gut told her she shouldn’t choose this person, but her gaze was drawn to him like a magnet. His intense eyes were so distracting that even when she tried to look away, she was drawn back to him. She could even sense his arrogant confidence. As if he was confident she would never leave him for another guy.

“Do you like this Alpha?”

The doctor displayed his photo alone, since he watched her carefully as she observed the Alphas. Seyeon flinched unconsciously as the picture grew large enough to fill the screen. He was more attractive and intense with a bigger view of his photo. 

“You have a good eye. To be fair, I didn’t show any background information. Obviously, you chose the best Alpha.”

Best Alpha? That was why she couldn’t take her eyes off of him. It wasn’t like pheromones were flowing out of the picture, but it was amazing that the superior Alpha could draw her in just by a simple image.

“There’s more.”

“Yes?”

“As I said earlier, we have to assume that the pheromones of one Alpha won’t match and his schedule might not fit with yours. If you’re an Omega, shouldn’t you embrace at least three or four Alphas?”

“What?”

Seyeon’s mouth opened wide because she didn’t know if it was a joke or not. She understood that there were more candidates because of their pheromones, but it was hard to understand the meaning.

“Open-relationships are possible. This even goes for Betas when they don’t match with their intended partner. As I’ve told you earlier, the number of Omegas is small. It’s okay to be a player and play the field. It’s even justifiable to cheat. It’s easier to take a taste of what everyone is offering to find your preference.”

Seyeon couldn’t keep her mouth shut enough that her jaw began to hurt. She couldn’t count how many times the common sense she had believed in during her 27 years had crumbled. Player… Cheating… 10 times she felt speechless and shocked. When she thought about it, her mind was completely in shambles. She paused for a moment and then asked a question.

“Do Alphas take it casually too?”

“It’s been a while since the Alpha-Omega relationship’s dominance has shifted. If an Omega says no, the Alpha has no choice but to use an inhibitor and meet a Beta. It doesn’t satisfy their desire, but it’s the second best option. But what can you do? The one who’s disappointed needs to back down and find another solution.”

Was it possible that a man with that aura was also hoping to be chosen by an Omega? Seyeon gave strength to her lips to speak. She was laughing for some reason, but thought it would be worth it. The doctor continued to speak as he watched her face. 

“Alphas want to be paired up quickly. They want to monopolize their Omegas.”

“What about going out with your partner? Dating?”

The doctor scratched his chin as he wondered about her question. She had stated that it was not the same as dating. He found a mate in his computer’s textbook while he was speaking. Then he recited the contents of the textbook.

“Alphas and Omegas imprint using each other’s pheromones. This causes both people to be unable to accept pheromones from others. One person can’t be imprinted by one side’s will alone. Both sides must sincerely agree.”

“How would I imprint on someone?”

“Well, you are not doing anything. It’s kind of a mental oath. If either side is shaken or not sincere, the imprint will not occur.”

Through a sincere oath, a pair will imprint on each other. It was the most romantic story she had ever heard. There wouldn’t be an imprint if one’s heart began to shake. It meant that the two  had to know each other’s honest feelings.

However, the doctor furrowed his eyebrows at her and shook his head. He had easily read what Seyeon was thinking just by looking at her expression.

“It’s true, but you shouldn’t think of it as something like love. That’s because the imprint is mostly affected by pheromones. It’s far from the Beta’s sweet fateful love fantasies you heard about.”

Seyeon became even more perplexed when the doctor explained the difference between everyone’s love. Even if her heart was drawn to a person, pheromones might prevent them from becoming a pair. If a Beta’s fantasy is fateful love, does this mean that Alphas and Omegas don’t believe in fate? She became more confused as she learned more about it.

“Al-all right. The mate issue doesn’t matter for now. You should meet as many of them as you can first. You can meet anyone you want, and you don’t have to go all in with one Alpha.”

The doctor turned back to the screen again. He was worried that Seyeon would only choose one person. He excluded the first photo that Seyeon had chosen first. Seyeon wondered if there were any obligations to connect as many Alphas as possible during this process.

Anyway, it was true that she didn’t have luck meeting a male because of her scent problem. She couldn’t believe that the government or ABO had officially put men on the table to mate with for her.

When Seyeon was in an enclosed space, she struggled. The smell of sweat made it impossible to even consider going to the gym. It was difficult to get close to someone at a certain distance. That alone was why she was subjected to so many restrictions. One of them was dating. She couldn’t stand the smell of a man, no matter how much she liked him.

She was worried that she might not even be able to meet and get closer with any Alpha because of that reason. She asked the doctor to find out if it would be an issue, and he answered her indifferently.

“It will be fine. It’s natural for Omegas to hate the smell of Betas.”

Even though the development as an Omega was late, she had been affected by the specific olfactory receptor gene that Omegas had. The Alpha’s inability to be sexually attracted to Beta and Omega’s aversion to Beta’s odor were both imprinted genetic reactions to keep the two away from Betas.

Seyeon was taken aback when she first heard it, but she eventually grasped his response. Other smells were fine, but she was hypersensitive to human body odors. She felt relieved that it didn’t apply to Alphas.

“Then I’ll choose him and…”

She intended to avoid him because his presence made her feel uncomfortable, but she decided not to overlook the Alpha she had already chosen. For the first time she thought it would be beneficial to do so. He might also not be a good match for her.

There was no photo that grabbed her attention with a strong presence this time, but she was able to find one to her preference. White skin, exotic features, and the term ‘good looking’ came to mind. Furthermore, he appeared to be very friendly because he exuded a gentle demeanor.

She wondered if she was paying attention to a contrasting person because she had just seen a person with such a strong presence, but Seyeon chose him with the intention of trusting her feelings.

“This person.”
