Chapter 5: A New Demon: Nightmare

Inside the country Eblor, where the city Andtol was, a meeting was being held in the main branch of New Dawn, in the capital, Nahtin.

The meeting room had white walls and a similarly white ceiling. The floor's tiles were slightly yellow, but mostly still white. The door of the room, a big, silver, metallic door was shut and locked. The strength of the door more than enough to stop anyone from intruding.

On the wall opposite to the door, a large screen was hung to it. Its purpose to display any digital documents required.

In the middle of the room was a long wooden table. The long sides of the table had many chairs, each of which had a person sitting on.

The atmosphere in the room was extremely tense. These people were some of the managers of New Dawn in Eblor, a country which is ruled by one of New Dawn's five executives, Jordan Goodwill.

As the meeting was about to begin, one of the managers raised his hand and manipulated the air at the ends of the room to stand still, stopping all sounds from exiting the room, or entering it.

"Then, let us begin this meeting." Said the senior manager, Jake.

"As you all know, in the city Andtol, a Demon has emerged." Jake informed as he crossed his arms.

A Demon wasn't a creature to be taken lightly. No matter what, all Demons were more troublesome than a monster of the same rank. The reason being that they are still intelligent, even after Demonization.

Demons use their abilities in special ways and use them to their full potential, there are several records of Demons whose ability wasn't the correct ability for an action, but they managed to do it anyway. The latest case would be the Demon Gaia, who could only manipulate the earth. But when it was cornered with a rain of bullets, it manipulated and crushed the firearms. Thankfully, the Demon has died due to its bullet wounds; it could not manipulate the first round of bullets away from it.

"We expected its first appearance to be a battle between underground organizations, which occurred in an abandoned building. In this building was written a message on the wall. It was 'I, Nightmare, will find you' written in blood." Jake continued, then gestured for Andtol's manager to continue.

"However, after a few days, it made its second appearance in an investigation of the underground organization in question. A group of five officers have been attacked by a Demon just a small amount of time after they reached their destination, the report said they were revising their plans one last time before heading in the building, when it appeared." Said Andtol's manager. She paused for a second, then continued.

"Its figure was a human and a hairy spider combined together. The human body was normal all they way down to its waist, which wasn't there. Instead, it was connected to the top off the spider's head. The spider was huge, its abdomen was tall enough for the officers to not be able to look at its top.

The report also stated that the human body was female and its hair was unbelievably black that no light was reflecting off of it. It also stated the colors of the spider body parts." She said before taking out her phone, connecting it to the screen then showing a drawing of the Demon. Made by an artist hired by New Dawn to draw criminals —and now Demons as well— in case the witnesses were not able to capture any pictures, with the help of the witness's description.

"The report stated the incredible speed and strength of the Demon, which the officers named as 'Nightmare', being able to take out two officers before the other three could started retaliating against it. The retaliation did not manage to even scratch it. As it strangled one, dodged a bullet, then knocked out the other officer before 10 seconds. The last of the officers only managed to call the nearest branch to the scene before also fainting, without being able to report anything before that.

Finally, after tending to the officers and sending a new group for the investigation, everyone inside the building was massacred. The wounds showing signs of the Demon, using their scythes and legs to slash and stab, and then also using extreme blunt force. As the stairway leading to the room where the most of the bodies were found was too small to fit Nightmare, I believe that Nightmare possesses a way to either shrink itself, or to expand the stairway using magic, namely earth magic." She said.

"The way it just disappears and appears is too random." Said a manager who was deep in thought. This also acted as a sign for many other managers to start expressing their opinions on the matter.

"It targeted only the underground organization's men, and it spared the officers, isn't this strange? Demons only rarely decide not to harm someone, usually attacking everyone they encounter. How are those officers, who are Nightmare's enemy, not killed if it can easily kill them?" Another manager asked, he raised his voice to be heard in the chaos that was the conversations of the managers.

"That... is strange indeed." Said Jake. All managers stopped once he started talking.

"To summarize, Nightmare... has incredible physical abilities, can use earth magic or shrink itself, and behaves, rather randomly, for some reason destroying an underground organization instead of choosing to attack civilians, which would have been easier... It is also expected to be at least at the limit of C-rank, it held back against the officers instead of killing them, and it also hadn't used its ability in a fight, which might make it B-rank if it does use it. It can also hide itself very well for the size of its body. Finally, it managed to obtain information that was only available to New Dawn employees. Sigh..." Jake recalled all the information New Dawn has on Nightmare, adding one more piece of information that the other managers missed.

The meeting had a brief pause in which the room was filled with heavy silence. Which Jake broke by giving orders to the managers.

"For now, send several search parties inside Andtol to search for Nightmare. The nearby cities are to keep high surveillance to keep it from entering another city. In addition to that, the surrounding cities and Andtol are to check the borders of their cities, perhaps it has a hideout is outside Andtol." Jake ordered. "Any further inquiries?" He then looked at each of the managers inside the room.

"""No, sir,""" All of the managers said in unison.

"Then, the meeting has ended. You are dismissed." Jake dismissed them, waiting for them to leave before sighing heavily and talking to himself. "This is going to be a pain..."
