Chapter 1: Chapter 1 – A Worthless will.

The night was starry and bright, dark colors coalescing into the Milky Way galaxy. Admiring the view on the walk home, Wade sighed. The 9-5 job he currently had rather harsh conditions, being paid by the penny and having a terrible manager. 

 

The streets were loud and bustling, being very chaotic, showing a lack of any sense of direction. He wandered aimlessly, trying to get to his wretched apartment. After an hour of trying, he finally reached his apartment. 

 

He slowly and carefully moved the knob of the door, opening onto a small and unclean apartment. The paint being carefully peeled off across the walls, with stains sporadically appearing in odd spots.

 

Too tired to cook or eat food, he just went into the small bedroom. As he fell asleep, exhausted from hours of work, he wondered, ‘How did it come to this?’. Remembering the clear disaster that ruined his life and forced him to exit school and start a terrible life. 

 

His temper spiked remembering the people who did this, it was rather obvious it was one of the rulers of this world, a literal god. He was confused, still, why would they massacre his family when they did nothing to him? He wants to pay vengeance against the terrible people who did this, but he was powerless.

 

After sitting in silence, thinking idly and unable to sleep, he went to the couch to watch whatever was on. After several hours, he finally went to sleep, with the TV still on. 

 

 Waking up in the morning, he went through his usual routine. Eventually walking to his job, whereas he spent the remainder of the day just mindlessly doing the work. 

 

The manager called him to do night shift, which he willingly complied as he needed the extra money for food. A strange group of individuals dressed in black entered the restaurant he worked at, looking across the restaurant until finally noticing him.

 

With superhuman speed one of the members knocked him unconscious, he was rather surprised though that Wade had tried to dodge. The man inspected Wade, noticing one of his being more gray, showing slight blindness in the right eye. 

 

He suspected that was the reason he was able to almost react, due to his other senses being slightly enhanced. After thinking about it long enough, he grabbed Wade over his shoulders and exited the restaurant with the others.

Wade has woken up, being greeted by a rather sad sight. He had known what happened, he was taken by the ‘light’, a vicious organization with multiple high ranking gods supporting it. Its goal was to force mortals to take in challenges and requests from Demi-Gods, Gods and Heroes. 

The challenges and events are made public by this cruel corporation, being well-known to take random people from anywhere to participate in these events. Though I have heard of some rumors that those are only fronts and aren’t what they actually do.

 

He noticed a person similar to his age and walked up to him, greeting him politely, “Nice to meet you, I am Wade.”.  Waiting for a handshake, with no signs of that happening, he quickly withdrew his hand into his pocket.

 

The guy responded rather bluntly, “Hey, you understand the gravity of the situation we are in, right? No time for greetings.” 

 

Slightly frustrated, Wade asked him his name, to whereas he replies simply, “Brandt”.

 

After finishing talking to him, he noticed the surroundings being like that of a small room, with the appearance of the walls and ceiling being pitch black. The floor was simple marble, reflecting the darkness of the surrounding.

 

Suddenly a voice introduced itself, “Hello everyone, Congratulations on being picked!” and proceeded to explain what we will have to do. Most hesitated with fear, understanding the situation they were in. 

 

As he explained, they would be assigned to groups of 3 in the first ‘event’, which was to survive from being hunted by monsters and to survive for a week. He continued, explaining we would be all given a small “gift” to help us. 

 

Suddenly, as soon as he finished, we all got teleported to random locations in this event and I noticed the two people besides me. I noticed Brandt, who I introduced my self to, he was inspecting fire which was appearing in his hands. Carefully playing around with it to not let it burn his clothes.

 

I then looked next to me to see this woman, wielding a gun and seeing snow appear across it. It had looked like they had gotten good blessings. I then looked up in front of me, with a panel that looked like it came out of a novel appearing right in front of me.

I understood what I had to do, and after absorbing the interesting information. I then introduced myself to my new teammate. “Hi, I am Wade, what is your name?”, she responded with a rather fascinating name, “Yuki”.

 

I then observed my surroundings, a mountainous forest with a river nearby. I told them to follow me towards the river, where we can gather clean water to survive.

 

Though hesitant, they eventually agreed, joining and walked with me to the small river.
