Torsten
Rayk and Coralie played together. Coletta had brought her daughter to Torsten and Annemarie in the morning and then left to meet a friend. Of course, she hadn't asked them if they could take care of Coralie, or if the nannies could. No. She had pushed her small, surprised daughter into the room, happily said goodbye, and then disappeared.
Torsten had been terribly upset about it at first, but the little girl was a true angel and quickly conquered his and Annemarie's heart. And that of Rayk, who ran after her like a little chick.
The castle was bustling as the first preparations for Rosina's first birthday were made. There would be a big celebration. And it was in this hustle and bustle that Marlon came home. A servant had come to tell them of Marlon's arrival.
"So he's back." Annemarie sighed. "I would have liked to celebrate without his presence... Are you coming? Let's say hello to my big brother."
"Shall we take the children with us?", asked Torsten.
"No. We welcome him without the children. Rayk and Coralie are playing so sweetly and Rosina is sleeping. I don't want to wake her. He will see the children again soon enough."
Maybe this was for the best. Torsten didn't want Marlon to get near his children. Marlon's opinion of half-vampires was not a good one. On Rayk's birth, he didn't just send them his congratulations, no. He also asked if they thought it was a good idea to bring weak vampires into the royal family. At Rosina's birth, he did not send them such impudence. No. But his congratulations were very miserable.
Annemarie had been annoyed for days, but in the meantime, the anger had subsided and Marlon turned out to be a friendly and loving uncle when he came to visit from time to time. Torsten was still not sure if this friendliness might be played. Annemarie felt the same way and therefore kept an eye on her brother.
Said super-uncle greeted them in the salon, where he had already been joyfully received by the king and queen. He grinned crookedly at Annemarie and Torsten and hugged his sister happily.
"How nice. Finally, the family is reunited!" Then he hugged Torsten.
"Welcome back." Torsten tried to return the embrace as enthusiastically as possible, but the coldness in Marlon's eyes made him shudder.
There was a knock at the door and a servant came in. She seemed a little breathless and bowed quickly. "Excuse me, Your Highness! But more guests have arrived."
"Other guests?" Queen Franka looked confused at her husband.
The servant nervously smoothed out her uniform. "Oona von Schwarzmoor and her parents are here."
"Oona?" Marlon looked at Annemarie, who just shrugged her shoulders. "Did you invite your old friend?"
"No. I see them very rarely. This has nothing to do with me," Annemarie replied and looked at Torsten, who frowned. Was this good or bad?
"Then please escort them here." The queen snorted at the servant, who stood uncertainly in front of them. "We weren't expecting them until after Rosina's birthday because they were away."
With a quick bow, the servant hurried away. Torsten suspected that the poor vampire was glad to escape this strange mood that had spread in the salon. Everyone was strangely tense.
"They aren't any more", King Henry murmured.
Marlon
Oona von Schwarzmoor. Annemarie's former childhood friend was a pretty vampire with short black curls, dark skin, and pale orange eyes. A genetic defect that occurred very rarely, and was considered an ideal of beauty. She wore a long, black dress and a diamond-studded headband in her short curls.
Her parents were dressed much more colorfully. Oona had inherited the genetic defect from her mother, as her red eyes were paler than usual.
Oona was very pretty, that much was certain. Marlon looked at her with interest during dinner in the early hours of the morning. But Oona ignored him and instead talked to her old friend and praised Annemarie's beautiful children.
His aunt was also present. Next to her sat a small, petite, blonde girl who ate only fruit. She resembled Torsten, but as far as Marlon was informed, he and Annemarie had only two children. He had never seen another girl with them.
"How was it in the military?" Oona's father wanted to know.
Marlon grimaced. He had not enjoyed his time in the military. "Instructive."
This made Egon von Schwarzmoor laugh. "Our Oona also wanted to join the military, but we were able to convince her to study politics and music. She was at Moor University. We are very proud of her."
"Only the brightest minds are accepted!", added Oona's mother.
Oona sighed. "My great-grandmother founded the university, Mom. Your grandma. Of course, they took me in."
Moor University was the only university in the marshland. Marlon was supposed to go there as well, but he refused. He didn't want to spend time in a dusty building. He wanted to rule. But the right opportunity had not yet opened up for him. But he waited for it. He lurked.
He was never alone with his parents, or even within reach. And he had also lacked time. But now everything would change.
"Marlon?", Oona turned to him.
"Yes?" He gave her his kindest smile. She was pretty, yes, but as a child, she had been terrible. He never liked her.
"Are you planning to study? After your time in the military?"
"Oh. No. I will be part of the Council." At last!
"Without having studied before?" Oona looked at Annemarie.
"I and Torsten didn't study either. We learned everything here", she said.
"Hm... You have always been very smart, Annemarie. You probably don't need the university. As for your husband, you certainly wouldn't have married a fool." Now she looked at Marlon again. "Personally, I attach great importance to education. I'm thinking about studying medicine next."

Marlon grimaced. "Good for you!"
Coletta was talking to her sister when Oona's gaze wandered to her daughter. Coralie. Marlon's new cousin. "I've been thinking about it all the time... She looks very similar to Torsten. But he's not the father, is he?" Now she looked at her friend.
Annemarie and Torsten shook their heads at the same time.
"Coralie is not my child!", said Torsten quickly.
"What? Coramie is not my sister!", grumbled Rayk immediately. Obviously, he had trouble pronouncing her name. "She's my friend!"
Not Torsten's daughter... Then... Perhaps. Marlon smiled.
Finn
Finn was sitting on his bed. Tears rolled down his cheeks. His father was dead. Marko's parents as well. And Marko? Would he leave him?
'You don't need me.' That wasn’t true.
He looked at Julia. She had fallen asleep. She didn’t feel good. He could smell her pain and discomfort. He was supposed to leave her alone so she could rest, but he didn't want to cry in front of everyone. So he now sat on his bed and watched her sleep. It smelled of foreign centaurs everywhere. Finn didn't know how many there were, but their smell made him nervous. He could smell anger. He had taken a quick look out of the tent. The tent village of the centaurs had grown a lot. That was scary to him.
"Are you thirsty?" Leopold came into the room with a cup of water and handed it to Finn.
"Thank you."
"Is everything alright?"
Finn shook his head. "I want to be alone."
"That's good. I just quickly take a look at Juli, ok?"
Finn nodded and watched as Leopold touched Julia's forehead and carefully glanced at her bandages. "No fever and the bandages look good. There is no blood to be seen. I'll leave you alone again. Well, almost alone." Leopold winked at him, then he left the room. Finn sighed. He was worried about Julia. It was all too much for him. The loss of his father, Marko's pain, and Julia... That was way too much.
Finn didn't stay 'almost alone' for long.
"May I come in?" Marko stood in the entrance to the 'girl's room', as Peter called it. As almost everyone called it by now.
"Yes. Come in", Finn murmured.
"Juli is asleep?"
"Yes. We must not wake her up. She needs the sleep."
Marko sat quietly next to him. "Of course. Finn? I'm sorry."
Finn just nodded.
"What I said was stupid. I need you too. We need each other."
"I know. Marko?" Finn looked at him pleadingly. "Please never say that again. That I don't need you! That hurt. I need you. We both lost someone, Marko. I'm no better off than you!" He sobbed softly.
Marko tightened his legs and buried his face in his arms. "The worst thing is that we lost them a long time ago. When we were taken out of the pack. But then your mother comes here and for a moment I had hope. I'm jealous of you, Finn. My parents won't come here."
"I know! I’m sorry! But I can't do anything about it! I can't change it. But I love you. I need you. With me!"
"I need you too", Marko whispered, looking at him.
"Now, kiss", Julia murmured softly and sat down slowly. She swayed a little and groaned in pain.
Marko jumped up to help her. "Wait, Juli!"
She gladly accepted the help. "Thank you. And now go and kiss everything well again!"
"Did we wake you up?", Marko wanted to know instead.
"Yes. But that doesn't matter. I've slept enough. Come on. Kiss. Now!"
Laughing, Marko went back to Finn, who laughed softly with red cheeks. "I'd like my kiss now!"
But before Marko could kiss him, they heard loud voices.
"We don't want witches here!", someone shouted. "Witches make other people slaves! We don't want humans! No strangers!"
"What?" Julia turned pale.
"I'll see what's going on. Finn? Stay with Julia!" Marko kissed Finn's cheek first and then, with a grin, Julia's too. Then he hurried away.
"Fiete! Wait! Marko!", they heard Josefine shout. The two dragons apparently also ran out of the tent.
