Agathe

The carriage stopped in front of the vampires’ castle. Agathe had never seen it before. The building was scary to her. Friedrich, on the other hand, smiled when he saw Torsten and Annemarie at the entrance to the castle. Torsten held a little boy in his arms and Annemarie a sleeping girl. Agathe snorted. Vampire children. No witches. No wizards. Half-vampires! Well. Better than short-lived, powerless mortals. Definitely.

The two got out of the carriage and Friedrich greeted his son and grandchildren cheerfully.

"How nice to see you!", he said with a big smile.

"We're happy too", Annemarie replied, giving Agathe a very strange look. "You arrived just at the right moment. One day before the celebration. Wonderful. And in time for breakfast. Come. Our servants bring your belongings to your room."

The boy looked at Agathe and Friedrich skeptically. "Daddy? They stay?", he asked quietly.

"These are your grandpa and your grandma", Torsten murmured to him amused. "Do you remember? Grandpa Friedrich has already visited us twice."

"Very nice." Agathe nodded, ignoring father and son. "I'm a bit hungry after the long drive."

"I'm on the verge of starvation!" Friedrich kissed her hand, and touched Rosina's little head. Annemarie smiled.

"Let's go inside", she said.

On the way to the vampires' dining room, a pretty vampire woman with blond curls came towards them. She held a little girl by the hand, who looked very much like Friedrich. Agathe looked at her husband sharply and noticed that he seemed shocked. The pretty vampire smiled at them.

"Good morning, Aunt Coletta!", greeted Annemarie cheerfully. "Queen Agathe and King Friedrich have just arrived."

"Delightful!" Coletta smiled at Agathe, and winked at Friedrich. Then she pointed to the little girl. "This is my Coralie."

"Hello!" the child squeaked. "Mom and I... eat... Cookies!"

Coletta laughed softly. "No, Coralie. There are no cookies for breakfast!"

"No!", the child snorted.

"We'll talk about that later", Agathe hissed at her husband.

"Shall we go?" Torsten cleared his throat. "Breakfast is waiting. Unfortunately without cookies."

Julia

The sun was slowly setting. Julia sat with Leopold by the river. The two sat on the soft grass and listened to the splashing of the water. Julia leaned against her boyfriend. It was quiet.

"Should we go back now?", asked Leopold, kissing her hair.

"No. I don't want to, yet." Her wounds hurt a little with every movement and she still had a headache, but Julia had enough of her bed. Therefore, she persuaded Leopold to go with her to the river. There she could also rest. Leopold, however, insisted on carrying her. An offer she gladly accepted. At the moment, she was trying to get a few drops of water from the river, but it worsened her headache.

"Juli? Are you trying to do magic?" Of course, Leopold caught her immediately.

"Just a bit."

"Juli!" He pulled her onto his lap so they could look at each other and kissed her forehead. "No. You still have a fever. Let's go back. We've been here long enough. You still need to rest."

"But I don't want to!", she grumbled lazily. "I feel like I'm going to need my magic soon!"

"A feeling?" Leopold frowned.

"I can't explain it. It's not a vision. Just a feeling."

"Hm..." He touched her lips with his thumb. "I also have a feeling... But, unfortunately, you have a concussion."

"Leo!" That made her laugh. "Where does THAT come from?"

"From the depths of my soul!" He winked at her. "You are so beautiful! I could eat you!" His lips met hers.

"Josefine would probably have something against that!", she murmured against his lips.

"I don't care about Josefine's opinion!" The kiss intensified and Julia wrapped her arms around him.

"I can understand that", she replied, laughing. But, suddenly, pictures came to her.

An army of the races. Two dragons glide through the air together with harpies. Julia in front of them all. Her eyes are blazing with determination.

She blinked.

"Juli? Did you have a vision?", asked Leopold, startled he held her face gently in his hands. "You were suddenly... What did you see?"

"An army and I will lead it!"

"That doesn't sound good!" He sighed. "You truly might need your magic soon. It seems."

"I don't know when it's going to happen. But it will happen."

"Julia! Leopold!" Finja approached the two. "Are you making yourself comfortable?"

"Something like that!" Leopold grinned. "Can we help you? Do you need anything?"

"I do. I'd like to borrow your girlfriend, Leopold." Finja held out her hand to Julia. "We have a big meeting with all the elders and the pale redbacks insist on her presence."

"What?" Leopold frowned while Julia let Finja help her up.

"My presence? Why?" Julia swayed a little as she became dizzy again.

"If you're not feeling well enough, I'll try to dissuade them from it!", added Finja quickly. "Would you rather rest?"

"No. It's alright", Julia replied, leaning against Leopold, who had stood up to support her.

"Are you sure?" He didn't believe her.

"Yes. I am. I can do it."

"All right." He kissed her cheek. "I love you. Good luck!"

"I love you too!" Julia let Finja help her and the two made their way to a large tent, which stood in the middle of the centaur village. Finja's tent. In the tent, all the elders had gathered and argued more than they discussed anything.

"Quiet, please!", shouted Finja and it got quiet inside. All eyes were on Julia, who was smiling nervously. Most of the centaurs were strangers to her. However, she recognized two of the centaurs from the pale redbacks. They had previously demanded Julia's release and now smiled at her with respect.

"I brought the girl. However, she has not yet fully recovered. She still has to take care of herself!", Finja now announced and took Julia with her into the round of centaurs. Julia sat down on the floor. The centaurs were happy to make room for her. They all stood to fit into the tent. Although it was very large, the group had just enough space in it.

"We're discussing how we should deal with people who come here. Some groups are in favor of expelling all refugees and we would like to hear your opinion," Finja told her. "And by all, wolves and elves are meant."

"My opinion?"

"Your mother is the witch queen, right? Therefore, your opinion is valuable. Please", Finja encouraged her and some of the centaurs nodded. "You're probably the best informed of all of us."

"My opinion? Now... I've been here for almost three years now. I'm probably no better informed than you are. You are probably worried that witches and wizards might bind you to themselves. Is that it?  But the queen is cruel. Those who flee do not flee to suppress centaurs. They flee to finally live in peace."

"Would the queen start a war against us?", asked a centaur with dark tattoos and long, black dreadlocks.

"She's interested in power. If she saw an advantage in attacking the centaurs, she would, yes. I want to be honest with you. Yes. The Queen would try to enslave you should she win a war against you. But it hasn't happened yet and those who come here are not a threat to you. Werewolves and elves flee slavery and humans flee because their freedom is also threatened by their queen. Why would they want to fight you?"

Finja nodded. "That's how I see it."

The centaur with the tattoos snorted. "Nevertheless, my tribe does not like the fact that there are more and more refugees. Especially with the lack of rain. We need our water and our soil. And then there's the dragon!"

"Dragon?" Julia looked at him confused. "What dragon?" Was he talking about Josefine and Fiete? But he said 'the' dragon. Not 'two'.

"A black dragon, like the one you have with you. He flies over the border at night and attacks the soldiers there. That doesn't bother us, of course, but what if we land next on his menu?", he said. "This is more than just a problem."

Julia sighed. Josefine... What are you doing?

Fritz

The carriage arrived at his house late at night. The guards led the two teenagers into the house, while Fritz thanked the coachman for his renewed service and wished him a pleasant evening. Paula was already waiting for him in the house. She looked skeptically at the two teenagers who were nervous and guarded by the guards in the hallway.

"Fritz!" She wrapped her arms around him. "How was it?"

"Exhausting and unpleasant. The children?"

"They're sleeping. You brought two servants with you?" Now she sounded reproachful. "And two such young ones!"

"The girl would have been killed", he whispered to her. "And look at the boy. He's terribly thin. They probably starved him!"

He led his wife to the two teenagers. "These are Emmie and Peyo."

"Glad to meet you two!" Paula held out her hand to them, but Peyo flinched and Emmie growled softly.

"We're not happy!", she hissed.

One of the guards raised his hand, but Fritz stopped him. "Don't! She has experienced bad things. Anger is allowed!" Then he looked at one of the servants, who looked curiously into the hallway. "Ah! Great!" Fritz beckoned him over.

The servant bowed quickly and then hurried to them. "What can I do for you?", he asked.

"Set up two guest rooms for the two of them quickly, and show them as soon as you're done, please!"

The servant bowed again and then hurried away.

Fritz turned his gaze to Emmie. "I promised you that you would get rid of the muzzle, and I will also take off your shackles. I trust, Emmie, that you won't attack us. I don't want you to have to walk around here with such an abomination!"

Emmie nodded, but she growled softly as he freed her from the muzzle and shackles. She did not attack. Peyo watched the events nervously.

"Good. Are you two hungry?", asked Fritz.

The two bound servants shook their heads.

"How about a hot chocolate then?", Paula tried.

Peyo nodded cautiously, but his gaze remained skeptical. He moved closer to Emmie, who gave him only a brief, determined look. She would protect him.
