Agathe
Little Rosina's birthday party was in full swing. The guests celebrated while the little one slept in her mother's arms and her brother wondered why all the guests were not there for him.
Agathe had withdrawn to the palace garden, which bordered the ballroom. Lanterns illuminated the geometrically landscaped garden, to which glass doors and a magnificent terrace led. It was dark, but she could only see a few stars. Friedrich talked to Torsten in the ballroom. The two got along well. Much to her displeasure. But she disliked the latest development even more.
"Your Majesty!" Marlon approached her. The prince wore a silver suit. Some blood stuck to the collar of his white shirt.
"Prince Marlon. What gives me the honor of your company?"
"You looked lonely." He winked at her.
"And you want to change this? Delightful!" She sounded more than just sarcastic, but the prince didn't seem to mind.
"You must have noticed the adorable little Coralie?", he asked innocently.
Agathe snorted. "I did. What are you getting at? Boy?"
"I'm sure you're upset... But I have a suggestion that you might like."
"A suggestion?" That made her curious. The two sat down on a bench that stood in front of a simple fountain. The water splashed softly. Agathe smoothed the fabric of her red dress and looked at the young prince with interest.
"Well. I want the throne."
"And I'm supposed to help you? What's in for me?"
"That too. But no, that's not the point. What do you think about connecting our kingdoms?"
Agathe raised her eyebrows and laughed in disbelief. "In what way? Our kingdoms already have a connection. And I'm married."
"Will you be that any longer? I've seen how you look at your husband."
In fact, Agathe planned to make Friedrich pay. Divorce was not enough for her. "Is this a marriage proposal? What would my kingdom get out of it?"
Marlon leaned against the bench and thoughtfully brushed a few strands of blond hair from his face. "Our resources. Vampires are strong. Our army is not as big as yours and our country is small but fertile. It rains frequently here and our farmers almost always achieve good harvests. Admittedly, the last harvest was a little smaller, but it would be enough for all of us. Less rain is a real rarity here. I heard that your people might face another famine?"
Agathe nodded. The boy's suggestion was not bad. She could enlarge her land and avert famine.
"Of course, I expect vampires to live in freedom", Marlon continued. "As your husband, I rule over the marshland and you keep the power over your land. Everyone has their part. I plan to dethrone my parents. Soon."
"I don't like sharing power", Agathe objected. "And what's stopping me from just taking your land?"
"The way I see it, you are currently trying everything to prevent war. A good decision, with all the things that are currently going on. A famine? A dangerous disease? Rebellion among the people? Why should you suddenly change that? A war, now, would do neither you nor your people any good. My people will worship you as Queen. We govern together. But I do not claim to make decisions for your country. Only for the vampires. Only for my people. My country could soon be our country. And together we could conquer the steppe. As soon as the problem of an approaching famine is averted..."
"The steppe?" The land of the centaurs... Centaurs are supposed to be good fighters. They would be valuable soldiers and their ability is unique. Under a binding spell, they won’t be able to rebel against us...
"You would have your refugees back and more land. Just like me."
"I like this proposal. We will still have to negotiate the details." Agathe smiled. If necessary, I'll just get rid of him afterward... "Yes. We can get married. Friedrich will not stand in our way."
Julia
Julia sat on her bed and sorted scraps of fabric for Finn. Finn was sewing a jacket. He had taught her how to sew and embroider, but Julia felt too bad to help him sew. Good. She only helped with minor changes and simple embroidery. She lacked Finn's skill.
The 'negotiations' among the centaurs had been very exhausting and no agreement had been made. So far.
"And the centaurs really asked for your opinion?" Finn was cutting open a seam because he had accidentally sewn too far. "That's impressive."
"Do you think so?"
"Definitely!"
They heard Marko, Leopold and Josefine engrossed in a card game next door. Marko scolded loudly because he had apparently caught Josefine cheating. Julia sighed. She desperately needed to talk to her friend, but Julia lacked the strength to stand up. Her fever had risen slightly, but she didn't want to sleep. Mila had given her a cup of tea against the fever. The tea helped.
"What do you think about this?" Finn held up his jacket. Dark red fabric and dark leather.

"The jacket looks great Finn. Who ordered it?"
Finn grinned. "A centaur who wants to impress her crush with it."
"She will!"
Josefine came into their room and sat down next to Julia, offended. "Marko says I'm not allowed to play with them anymore!"
"Because you cheated?" Finn stuck his tongue out at her. Josefine snorted and looked at the fabric, which Julia had sorted by color and size.
"Fienchen?", asked Julia finally.
"Yes ?"
"Have you attacked soldiers behind the border lately? And eaten them?"
Finn was shocked. "What?"
Josefine just shrugged her shoulders. "I was hungry. And the soldiers were not friendly to you. They threatened you."
"Not those soldiers!", objected Julia. "I don't know these soldiers. I probably never met them!"
"So what?" The dragon girl growled angrily. "They belong to your mother. I would have eaten her long ago if the flight didn't take so long... And... She is your mother."
"Mom attacked Julia too...", Finn murmured quietly.
Josefine hissed. The wolf get frightened and looked at her pleadingly.
"I won’t eat your mother!", she hissed, crossing her arms. "Although she deserves it. These soldiers deserve it."
"But they have families too...", Finn whispered softly and looked at Julia. She, too, was stiff with fright.
"I'm going to kill anyone who looks at Julia badly." Josefine smiled now. Her yellow eyes turned black and an eerie darkness emanated from her. Julia had never seen her like that before. "Every single one!"
"What?" Julia jumped up, startled. She wavered slightly. "Josefine! You can't. I don't want that. No."
"Why?" Her friend tilted her head and showed her pointed teeth. Her black eyes fixed on Julia in surprise.
"Because I don't want this. That's too much!", complained Julia. "That's no good. No, Fienchen. Not at all. There will always be someone who doesn't like me. That's no reason to end their life."
Josefine sighed, her eyes turned yellow again, and she tilted her head. "As you wish."
Julia blinked in confusion and looked at Finn, who continued to stare at the dragon girl. He was chalk pale.
"Are you arguing?" Fiete looked into their room. "I heard Julia scold. What's going on?"
"Julia had clarified something. I was in the wrong," Josefine whispered. "I acted against her wishes."
"Oh." Fiete came in and scratched his head. "That's not good." He put his arm around Julia, noticing that she felt dizzy again.
"What?" Julia looked at the older dragon. The world was spinning. "I don't understand... What?"
Fiete stroked her hair and hugged her. "Oh, my little one. Don't worry. All's well. Maybe you'd better lie down. Hm? There is no need to worry. We don't do anything that contradicts your wishes!"
"What?" Julia wrapped her arms around him in confusion. "Why?"
The dragon laughed softly. "You will be queen one day. Do you know that? I can smell it. And we will help you achieve this goal. We are where we belong, little princess. It's all right."
Julia pushed herself out of his embrace, startled. "What? I? Queen?" She shook her head. Dark dots formed in her field of vision. "No. And why... You want to help me? You and Fienchen? Why? What? No!"
Fiete sighed. "It's good. Please, don’t, Juli."
"We belong to you", Josefine murmured. "It was the choice of our magic. We are your dragons. In a certain way."
Julia just shook her head, then hurried out of the room, swaying, over to Marko and Leopold. The two boys jumped up in surprise. They said something, but Julia did not hear the words. Everything was spinning. She didn't know what to make of what she had just been told... My dragons? What? Their magic? She stumbled into Leopold's arms. Fever clouded her thoughts. It was all too much.
"Hey... What's wrong?", he asked quietly.
Julia buried her face in his shirt and cried.
