Chapter 2: The Ritual

Rin walks inside and looks around, he notices that there are many dolls and jars of what seem to be human body parts. He always hates coming here, because it always feels like he is being watched by someone, even though there is nobody around. It feels like the dolls are watching him. It makes him feel incredibly uncomfortable.

“Hello? Mr. Takashi?” Rin asks, while looking around looking for the Cult leader.

“I'll be there in just a second, Rin!” shouts a man’s voice from the other room.

“Oh okay, Mr. Takashi!” Rin shouts back.

Looking around, Rin finds a very old diary. It describes the merging, and many other things it might affect. As Rin looks through it, the subject of the merging suddenly seems more interesting to him. He decides to take it, and puts it in a secret compartment in his pants. He made it to steal simple things like books and food. Furthermore, he made it a habit to steal stuff from the cult, since he was rarely allowed to eat a full meal, or have entertainment like books.
A man walks out from the other room with a teapot and a cup. He is wearing a white button-up, and looks very extra for just an ordinary visit.

“Okay Rin, tell me about your dream. How long is left exactly?” asked Mr. Takashi, as he is putting the teapot on the table in front of Rin.

“The clock said 07:13, which was 10 minutes ago, so we only have 7 hours and 3 minutes left until the clock hits zero.” Answers Rin as he sips the tea that Mr. Takashi put in front of him.

“Is that all you need sir, or do you need something else?” Rin asks.

Mr.Takashi looks like he is hesitating to answer Rin’s question.

“Erm… I'm sure you've heard around the camp that we have a ritual planned tonight, and well… You're going to be the main piece of it, so I'll need you to get ready by tonight.” Hesitates Mr. Takashi, while looking down and writing something in a notebook.
“Get ready, how exactly? Nobody has said anything about this ritual to me. I’ve only heard some people talking about it?!” Exclaims Rin.

“It's nothing to worry about. You just need to chant these words and that's all. Your Uncle should be preparing to teach you these in class later today, so don't worry much about it” Reassures Mr. Takashi.

“Now it's time for you to go, you don't want to be late for class now do you” Mr. Takashi says while smiling deviously.

“Oh, uh… Yes, I must get going!” Stammers Rin loudly. He does a sudden bow and exits the house.

“What a creep” Rin thinks to himself.
After leaving the house, he spends some time looking through the diary before heading to his class.

“An M-Stone is a stone that can enhance-Oh, I'm almost late, I should head to class now” Rin thinks to himself, while putting the diary away, and hurrying to class.

After spending several hours with his uncle, Rin finally got the hang of the chant and knows how to say it with ease.

“Okay Rin, listen to me. After you're done with the ritual, head straight to your room, and don't stay outside any later than 9 PM,” Orders Uncle James.

“Yes sir, I won't be out any later than 9 PM,” Answers Rin obediently

Uncle James was jotting something down on a piece of white paper, when he says

“Okay good, now go to the ritual spot before you're late.” “Alright, I'll see you later!” Rin yells as he hurries out the door.

“I'm not sure why he told me to stay inside after 9 p.m, it's never been a problem before, it must be some animal or something. Anyway, let's get back to this diary.” Rin thinks to himself.

“M-Stones are stones that appear after murdering a human or beast.”

“That's kind of interesting I suppose. In any case, I should probably go to the ritual room, before Mr. Takashi starves me for a couple of days again.” Rin says to himself while sighing.

After walking for 10 minutes, Rin finally reaches the spot where he and the other members of the cult are supposed to meet.

“I didn't know the ritual room was this far away, let alone that the camp was this big…” Rin thinks to himself.

Rin looks around, all the other cult members are all talking to each other, and they sound excited about the ritual. Rin doesn't understand the big deal about this ritual, yet he can't shake the feeling that something isn't right.
When Mr.Takashi finally shows up, all the cult members immediately stop talking.

“As all of you know, today will be the day of the merging, therefore today we will start the ritual, which will hasten the merging's existence. This ritual will require a lot of people chanting at the same time, so please chant with Rin and me” Mr. Takashi shouts to all the members.

The cult members begin to surround Rin and Mr. Takashi. They start chanting with Rin and Mr. Takashi. Suddenly the cult members start to drop one by one, and their bodies start losing color. Their bodies start to decompose at an unnatural speed.
“W-WHAT THE HELL?!” Stutterers Rin, while backing away in fear. As he is backing away, Rin feels the hands of his fellow cult members push him towards the middle again, he tries to fight them, but their strength far outmatched Rin's smaller physique.

“Let him go, we don't need him anymore, we already have enough people to fully complete the ritual anyway” Takashi says while glaring at Rin.

Right as Takashi says this, all the cult members let go of Rin, and Rin sprints out of there and goes straight to his room. He locks himself in, and blocks his door and windows. Right as he is done blocking everything up, he hears a knock at his door.

“Rin it's me, your uncle, I have to give you something” Says a voice from the other side of the door.

But Rin stays quiet, fearing that it's a trap to take him back to the ritual.

“Listen Rin I'm not here to take you back, I'm just here to drop off a few things and give you a note that's all” Says Uncle James reassuringly.

“Then please just drop everything there, so I can pick it up myself” Rin mutters.

A sigh can be heard from the other side of the door.

“Right okay, I’ll leave everything out here, just come out and get it later.” Says his uncle.

Rin can hear his uncle put down the bag, and then heavy footsteps leaving. Rin waits a bit to make sure he is gone. He hesitates to unlock the door, but when he does, he opens the door to see a brown backpack laying on the floor in front of him. He quickly takes the bag inside his room, and locks the door again. Looking through the bag, he finds some food, 2 bottles of water, a first aid kit, a knife, and A note.

“Why the hell would Uncle James help me? Maybe the food is poisoned. But that wouldn't make sense, why wouldn't he just take me back to the ritual instead of poisoning me?” Rin thinks to himself.

He takes a look at the note, it says something about how a girl is in the camp, and it gives an exact description of how to get her out of the camp safely. On the backside of the note there is a map of the entire camp too.

“What the fuck am I supposed to do with this?… It would be dangerous for me to even leave my room, does he expect me to go help this random girl?…” Rin is getting nervous, and is even more confused now.

“I should just leave. I don't know anything about this girl, and I don't even know how long I have before they come back…Okay fuck it I might as well save her, if it goes bad I have a knife for a reason” Rin says to himself.
While getting ready, Rin pulls out the map on the backside of the note, and starts planning his route “Alright I need to at least somewhat memorize this. There are 2 camps connected to the cult, one is for dorms and basic things, like the nurse and kitchen. The other camp is where the ritual room is, it's where the main building is as well. Each camp is about 10 minutes away from the other, so I’ll have to be fast. The main entrance to the second camp is in the lower right corner of the camp. There is a big fence around it, therefore I have no other way to get in than the main entrance. In the camp I'm currently located in, there are 4 apartments with dorms. I can hide behind them and get out of this camp, but I'll have to be fast, or I might get caught. The girl is being kept in the main building located in the second camp. After I find her, I have to escort her back to my room, and let her out after everyone is asleep.”

He goes over the plan a few times, and plans a route to get her out after dark.
Right as he opens the door, Rin sprints toward the next building as fast as he can without being seen. “Okay the place she's being held is not too far away, I just need to get to the other camp. Either way, I should still be careful not to gain more attention than I already have.” Rin continues to go building to building, he quietly sneaks out of the camp, and runs to the other camp. Around the main entrance there seem to be no guards, he walks into the camp and looks around, it doesn't seem like anyone is around. He runs into the main building. It’s only then that he realizes he doesn't know what room she is being kept in. Rin panics.

“What the fuck do I do now?! I don't have time to check every room in here, this building is massive!” Rin whispers in frustration.

Right as he says this, he can hear footsteps coming closer. He goes into the closest room and locks the door. Outside the room he can hear a conversation between two people.

“Did you see how scared Rin got?” Asks one of them.

“Haha yeah, Mr.Takashi said we need to use a replacement now” Chuckles the other one.

“Do you know who it is?” Asks the first guy.

“It's that girl that we took yesterday, remember? We had to put her in the isolation room because she wouldn't stop screaming.” Answers the other one.

“Oh yeah, she was a pain in the ass.” Says the first guy.

“Replacement? Does that mean I'm going to get eliminated because I didn't finish the ritual? Fuck I can’t think about that right now. They said the isolation room, so that should be down the hall to the left and the first door on the right.”

Rin, without making noise, runs down the hall, while making sure to look around for guards.
He finally reaches the door, on the other side he could hear what sounds like a small girl sobbing. He places his hand on the handle and slowly opens the door, as he did the sobbing stops.
