‘Am I still alive?’ I wondered as I opened my eyes. I sat up and quickly glanced around the room. I found that Chili Pepper was nowhere to be seen.
Perhaps the sight of me nearly killing myself with my own stand was enough for him to regard us as weaklings, not even worth killing. Or maybe he had something else to do today, and left in a hurry. Either way, his disappearance brought me some relief.
Sitting beside me on the floor, was Josuke Higashikata, the protagonist.
Judging from how easy and painless it was for me to sit up, I knew that he somehow managed to save me again. My body, which should have been torn to pieces by that electric yellow guy, felt perfectly fine. I didn't even feel any phantom pains.
Which goes to show just how powerful Josuke's restoration ability really is. Crazy Diamond really is the best healer I could've ever asked for.
Anyway, putting aside my miraculous recovery, I had a mission I needed to fulfill. Both for my past self, and the original Okuyasu. Of course for all practical purposes we ARE the same person, but I felt like the man I was before I remembered my past self, and the man I am now, are almost two different people.
Well, not entirely, we're more like different people in the way a child is inevitably different from his adult self. Nevertheless, I still felt the same way as I did, about many things. Most importantly, I still cared about my family, perhaps now, more than ever before.
I looked Josuke in the eye, and with trepidation in my heart, I asked him "W-where's Keicho!?". I desperately wanted to stay positive. I wanted to believe he was still with me. Though even as I asked him, I was already mentally preparing myself for the worst.
Countless visions of my brother's corpse as I'd seen it depicted both in the original manga, and in other adaptations, assaulted my mind. I imagined the burnt and broken corpse of the boy I used to look up to. I remembered the site of his grave, as it was depicted in the original story.
However, to my relief, Josuke simply pointed his chin at the figure lying on my other side.
It was my Aniki, Keicho. Fully intact, with no gaping holes in his abdomen, no burn scars, not even blood.
His eyes were shut, but I could clearly see the rise and fall of his chest in tune with his breathing. He was apparently unconscious.
Most importantly, He was alive!!!
There was a lump in my throat, and my eyes were already pooling with tears. With a shaky voice, I turned back and asked Josuke, "You…you healed him!?".
In response, Josuke simply nodded his head and whispered "yes…" in appeasement, as I turned my attention fully back on him.
Immediately, I was overcome with emotion. All the tension, all the anxiety I'd been feeling from the moment I remembered my past, everything was finally released.
Tears of relief immediately spilled from my eyes.
"Thank you-thank you-thank you!" I cried as I reached out, grabbed him, and pulled him into a tight hug.
In normal circumstances, I probably wouldn't have reacted so emotionally, but this time I really couldn't help myself. I was simply overwhelmed.
Josuke froze as soon as I did though, apparently he hadn't expected such a strong reaction. Certainly not from the teenage delinquent whom he'd beaten up only hours ago.
But despite his surprise, he was still kind enough to indulge me. He just sat there with a sympathetic expression, and let me hold on to him, as I bawled my eyes out, and sobbed into his chest.
I tried to explain to him, in between sobs, that I really thought I'd lost Aniki. Tried to tell him how grateful I was that he would do something like that, for people like us, but it all came out as a jumbled, muffled mess.
Josuke didn't say anything. He just pat my back and let me ramble on, while I held on and cried.
I know that for him, it was just more of the same. If he can help someone, and it doesn't cost him anything, he might as well do it. But to me, the fact that he managed to save both my brother, and myself, despite everything he went through because of us, was enough to raise him up to the status of a saint in my heart.
Hell, If the old me knew that a total stranger saved both our lives, he'd probably kneel and worship him on the spot.
Of course, unless I tell him, Josuke has no way of knowing that I've already seen a timeline where my brother died here. So my reaction probably looked a little bit disproportionate, but he was too kind to point it out.
Eventually, I managed to calm down and separate myself from him.
But Josuke's eyes remained focused on me as he nervously explained something else. "Listen um… I did heal the both of you, but I think something might have gone wrong during the restoration process."
"What!?" Immediately, my body tensed up again. Instantly I was filled with dredd and anxiety.
"Is Keicho sick? Is there something wrong with him?" I asked as I quickly turned back around to face my sleeping brother.
"Will he stay asleep like this forever?"
More tears threatened to come out of my already swollen eyes.
"No. No, He's fine. The problem wasn't with him. It's with you." Josuke patiently explained. He then gestured with his hands for me to look down at my own body, so I did.
As I stared downwards, I quickly realized that something was there, that wasn't there before.

'What's going on here? Why do I have these round lumps hanging off my chest?' I wondered as I reached for them.
There were two of them. In my hands, they felt soft, warm, and round. I could clearly feel strange new sensations on my chest as I rubbed them.
"These…these are boobs right? Why do I have boobs?"I asked. Only now, I realized that the pitch in my voice was noticeably higher than it was before.
With shaking hands, I reached for the area between my legs.
There was nothing there now, but there was definitely something before.
'It's gone!' I panicked!
"MY SON! WHERE IS MY SON!!?" I screamed in shock and horror.
Keicho woke up when he heard my screaming. His bloodshot eyes zeroed in on my panicked face.
"Oku…yasu?" He asked as he squinted his eyes at me.
He rubbed his eyes with his hands, then pinched his arm. He might have thought he was dreaming, but I was already too caught up in my grief to pay him any attention.
"JOSUKE!!! Where is my little elephant!! Did you take it from me!? Where did you put it! GIVE IT BACK!!" I shouted as I grabbed him by the scruff of his uniform.
"He may have saved my life, but now, the lives of my descendants are in danger!" I screamed internally.
Josuke blushed and looked away with a guilty expression. "I have no idea what happened. Really! I don't! Normally when I heal people they usually turn back to their previously healthy selves. This is the first time something like this has ever happened!" He claimed.
But when he saw the doubt in my eyes, he couldn't help but point out that everyone else in the room was still fine. "Look around, everyone else is still the same! I healed them all, they turned out fine!" He shouted in an innocent tone.
For a moment, I really looked around, distracted by his words. I saw that Koichi was fine, but he was now pantsless and scrubbing the floor with a dirty rag. He noticed my stare and quickly looked away. "S-sorry about this, I'm not used to seeing violence like that in real life. I've never been so s-scared before." he said, as his eyes anxiously shifted downwards.
"I couldn't even fight back because my stand was an egg." he muttered to himself. 'Wait, did he just say it Was an egg?'
My eyes then shifted toward Keicho. He looked fine, though his current expression was one filled with obvious doubt. "Is that really you, Okuyasu?" He asked as he stared back at me.
"Yeah, but Josuke turned me into a girl." I said blankly as my mind started wandering. My hands rubbing the top of my head.
It was something that Koichi said. Something that completely caught me off guard. For a moment, I was distracted by the implications. I looked him straight in the eye and asked him to explain it. "Wait. Did you say 'it was'? Did your egg hatch!?" I couldn't help but curl my lips in excitement as I did.
Koichi was a little startled by my questioning, but he quickly nodded as he pointed at a little creature with a bizarre insect-like appearance.
It had the head of a Caterpillar, a humanoid upper torso with two tiny muscle bound arms, two tiny wheels below its torso, and a long tail stretching out beneath the wheels. Its eyes looked almost mechanical, as did other parts of its body, and its entire body was covered in armor that resembled that of an insect's carapace.
Overall, it was pretty cute and dainty-looking, despite its buglike appearance. Currently, it was helping Koichi, by scrubbing the floor with another wet rag.
"That's your stand? What does it do?" Keicho asked.
Though he said it casually, I could see hope in his ocean blue eyes.
"Umm…it can create sounds on whatever surface it touches." Koichi nervously explained, "I call it Echoes."
"Huh...So it's the same stand as it was in the manga, only now, it hatched ahead of schedule. I guess the stimulus from my 'fight' with RHCP (actually it was a one sided beatdown) was enough to help him awaken it early. Neat!" I concluded, as I smiled back at him.
On the other hand, Keicho's eyes flashed with disappointment, but he still nodded politely.
"That's so Cool!" I smiled at Koichi, before I quickly turned to look back at Josuke."But let's not forget about the original topic…Why am I a girl now?" I asked as he once again, guiltily averted his gaze.
"I told you, I don't know!" He yelled. Apparently my constant questioning was starting to grate on him.
"Well, can you change me back?'' I asked him.
"I already tried when you were asleep, but it didn't work," he replied. "Let me show you."
Just as he said, Crazy Diamond came back out, made contact with my forehead, and used its restoration ability on me, but nothing happened.
"It didn't work." I said as I noted the lack of changes in my body. "It didn't work." Keicho echoed.
