When Yang Xihe visited the restaurant, it had already closed. She could only blame herself for waking up too late. So, after buying the medicine, she went to the convenience store and bought two packs of instant noodles and then went back home.

Instant noodles could be said to be one of the most precious things for someone who lived alone and didn't have any fancy cooking skills like Yang Xihe. It was easy to cook and easy to digest. It also tasted pretty good. To add more nutrition, you could add some vegetables, eggs, or meat. It was very convenient.

"Why don't you finish it?" Yang Xihe looked at the remaining half-bowl of noodles on the table then at her cousin, who was already lying down on the bed again under the quilt.

"I've got no appetite." Yang Xuerou then asked, "Sister, where's my glutinous rice and rooster?"

Yang Xihe was in a hurry to come back to feed her medicine, so she had no time to go shopping. Moreover, her cooking skills could only be described as barely acceptable, so, in Yang Xihe's opinion, if her cousin wanted to eat such a difficult dish, she might as well order a takeaway.

But seeing Yang Xuerou's sad little eyes, Yang Xihe had to promise her that she would buy it when she fell asleep.

"You must bring the rooster alive." Yang Xuerou emphasized.

Yang Xihe didn't know whether to laugh or cry as she listened to Xuerou's demand. She shook her head and explained patiently.

"If that's the case, we have to go to the bird market to buy it. I've never been to one before and even if I can get one, I can't butcher one myself."

Xuerou was stunned for a moment and looked a bit guilty, but she didn't want to give up yet, so she tried to compromise.

"Ah... can't you ask the stall owner to help kill it? I suddenly want to eat chicken blood too, so remember to bring the blood back."

"Why are you so troublesome." Yang Xihe sighed helplessly. "Can I just go to the restaurant and bring you the food?"

Yang Xuerou was lying on the bed, twisting and turning like a three-year-old child, and shamelessly pleaded in a coquettish tone. "No, I just want to eat what my sister makes!"

"Okay, okay, I'll do it for you."

Yang Xihe really couldn't bear to refuse Yang Xuerou's request. After all, they had grown up together, and Xuerou and her family had lent her a helping hand when she needed it the most.

After the death of her parents, many of her relatives were very eager to show their sympathy and even volunteered to take care of the young Yang Xihe. However, Yang Xihe firmly refused all of their "goodwill."

Yang Xihe was already very smart when she was young, so she grew up as a precocious child and her mind matured early compared to other children her age. She was very reserved and introverted and spent most of her time observing other people.

So, when her relatives, who barely spared her a single glance when her parents were still alive, suddenly changed to be caring and amiable, she quickly noticed that something fishy was going on. With her intelligence, it wasn't difficult to discover the truth. They actually didn't really care about her at all; the one thing they really wanted was her parents' inheritance.

So, she would rather live in a big, deserted house alone than let them get their wish. Those opportunistic relatives eventually realized that they couldn't fool young Yang Xihe and finally gave up. They revealed their true nature—scolding, mocking, and cursing Yang Xihe before they left with a huff.

The only one who still helped her despite her attitude was Yang Xuerou's parents. They often asked Yang Xihe's help to tutor Xuerou, and then when she left, they would prepare a bag of buns, dumplings, and side dishes and give it to her. How could the smart Yang Xihe not know that they secretly helped her but still gave her face? So, Yang Xihe was really grateful to Yang Xuerou's family.

After the relationship between Yang Xihe and Hei Yuan got exposed, the two sides gradually lost contact with each other. Yang Xuerou's parents lived in a small provincial town, and the influence of traditional concepts on them was far greater than on Yang Xihe.

Fortunately, Yang Xuerou was more open-minded than her parents, and she still maintained a good relationship with Yang Xihe, and she also helped Yang Xihe navigate through the darkest days of her life after Hei Yuan left her. So, Yang Xihe always had a soft spot for this wilful cousin of hers.

After watching Yang Xuerou take the medicine and fall asleep, Yang Xihe went downstairs again, ready to buy a rooster.

Yang Xihe couldn't help but feel apprehensive about watching a live chicken butchering moment. After all, watching a precious life extinguished before your very own eyes wasn't exactly a comfortable experience.

Furthermore, she really had no confidence that she could make a decent dish with these ingredients with her cooking skills, and this was the first time she handled such ingredients.

So, like many other sensible people, she beseeched other people's wisdom through the internet.

She typed many questions on her phone, such as: "Do you have to use a rooster for glutinous rice chicken?", "How to handle rooster as an ingredient?", "How to cook rooster blood," and so on.

Suddenly, a link came into view.

"To ward off evil spirits..."

Yang Xihe stared at these two words for a while and smiled helplessly.

She seemed to know why Yang Xuerou suddenly became obsessed with rooster blood.

She searched again, this time for glutinous rice and salt, and indeed, according to rumours, they also have some effect in exorcising evil spirits.

Yang Xihe sighed, put down the phone, and turned to go to the supermarket.

Although she had seen the water stains in front of the door, she didn't go and confront Yang Xuerou about the fact that she had lied to her. After all, there were things that not everybody could accept.

Besides, Yang Xuerou had taken care of her for a long time, so there was no need to make things difficult for her. Moreover, how could she question her when she was sick?

But… how could she believe such a feudal superstition? She didn't know whether to feel angry or funny about this.

As a staunch realist, she must let her silly cousin, Rourou, knew that feudal superstition was unreliable.
