Chapter 9 Part 1: Cerberus

“I was wondering what you wanted to say since you’ve been waiting at the back for awhile now. However, if you were just going to talk about that, I’ll just go.”

“Wait, wait! Oh, you’re too quick-tempered.”

He quickly responded.

“I was reporting to Teacher Woo-Do earlier. Did you hear about it?”

“Ah…”

“We saw something…”

He seemed so excited.

“It’s the first D-Class monster I’ve ever encountered…”

I thought she wanted to talk about something different…

sigh humans are bound to feel awe once they encounter something above themselves or something new.

“I really… I really didn’t want to ask about this…”

Lee Chan-song blurted out the end of his words and lowered his gaze.

“If you fight that Cerberus, will you be able to defeat it?”

A moment of silence then befell on the both of us. Can I beat Cerberus? Interesting question.

Basically my skills are strong depending on the situation. It usually show its greatest might during human battles.

Monsters with ignorantly strong bodies and heavy statures can be considered counters for me.

I can often outwit my opponents with intellect using psychological warfares with my abilities. I can also see through my opponent’s weaknesses at a glance.

However, fighting Cerberus will be different.

Although it has high intelligence compared to other D-Class monsters. It is not enough to engage in a psychological warfare like humans. It does not have any obvious weaknesses with its robust body. The best strategy was to pierce it through its thick body and puncture its heart. Unfortunately, I’m not strong enough to do that at the moment.

Lee Chan-Song was looking at me desperately. His eyes were hopefully gleaming as if waiting for me to say ‘Yes’.

“… I can win.”

“Really?”

“Ugh…”

His face instantly brightened. He seemed to have been reassured.

“Thank God…”

He breathed a sigh of relief.

I wasn’t lying though. I’ve been thinking of ways to defeat Cerberus, and I don’t plan to lose.

An Yu-Soo and An Yu-Ra were lying on the floor again, gasping for breath. These two are still very weak. Their endurance are mediocre, they can’t fight long and arduous battles.

“Huh…Heh…… Noona… “

“..Whoa… we’re going to die…”

“You’re not dying. So get up.”

They weren’t even listening to me at this point. They both grovelled on the floor, as if protesting. Even though we’re inside the indoor gym. We had no time to clean the floor, so the outside of our tents are quite dirty, but we have sufficient food.

“How is Noona so strong…?”

“That’s right. She’s only two years older than us.”

The two of them asked me as they propped their upper body up. Well How should I answer them? Should I tell them, that in fact I’m ways older than them? That I’ve spent a long time in this gate already and survived? Tell them that for some random reason I came back to the past to save the day like a lunatic?

“……You guys are stronger than other adults too.”

“No, but we were candidates for the national archery team?”

“We weren’t part of the national team, but we were candidates…”

So that’s why they used bow as a weapon. If they asked me why I’m using Karambit as a weapon… I won’t be able to answer. Technically speaking, there’s no such thing as a Karambit National Team, and I’m just really a normal student.

“I heard from Seong-Min Hyung1 that noona was very strong from the start.”

“That’s right. He said you killed monsters alone.”

“How did you do that?”

“I know right?”

Their skill of pretending to be innocent but actually trying to fish out information were excellent. Anyways being a sweet talker is good. If there’s a competition for eloquence they’d have won them. Especially if they fight me with words? I’d lose for sure. I don’t really have the energy to counter argue with others even if I had to.

“You sneaked out again last night… It’s very suspicious.”

“Isn’t it? You’ve been looking for another strange dagger…”

They lowered their voice but I can still hear them clearly.

“Get up. Let’s spar one more time.”

The two of them made unwilling expressions. They started fawning over me and trying to trick me to give in and let them be for the day, but I ignored their pleas. It seemed that they haven’t recovered from the previous fight, so they were trying to think of ways distract me.

“Get up!”

“Haa… yes~”

“Ready.”

After they got up, their eyes suddenly glinted. I haven’t even signaled them to start yet they both rushed at me at the same time. I held the branch on my hand and lightly tapped both of their foreheads. Both of them fell down on the ground instantaneously, then both got up once again and ran towards me once again…

“When the two of you are using the pincer attack position, I told you to divide your attacks from left and right or up and down.”

As soon as I finished speaking, one of them came at me from left and right. I jumped high and instantly took over the both of them. I pushed their backs with both hands and use the rebound to somersault and land safely at a distance. While the twins are strawn once again unto the floor.

“Again, one more time.”

The two sighed once again at the same time. I don’t have the leisure time to go easy on them, so I have to teach them using the Spartan style.

I plan to leave this place. I have a different goal from the beginning. It was to meet her, my master. I wanted to find ways to atone for my mistakes.

I wanted to see personally the living and breathing her. If there was a chance to her once again… I wanted to save her.

I’ve been putting off that goal for awhile now, because there were still so many people relying on me.

Each of them have the potential to become someone great in the future, so I need to form bonds with them and manage them for awhile.

This is because in a few years something will happen that will change the lives of every hunter. At that time you will really want to borrow all the luck that you had accumulated all your life.

So if you survive the gate and become a hunter safely, having other people to back you up and help you would be great.

I plan to leave the gym after we have resolved the Cerberus situation. If the twins train a little more, their combat prowess would improve to a decent level.

Even now, apart from me, no one in this gym can counter the two pincer’s attack position. If an internal division were to occur once again in the future, these twins will still be able to subdue them, while protecting Choi Woo-Do.

While the rest, such as Kwon Seong-Min, Seol Min-Jeon, and Song Da-Jeong, are better off staying here.

It is a perfect environment for beginners to gain experience and grow slowly. There is no better fortress than this unbreakable castle.

So, it is right for those who need to stay to remain, and for those who wants to leave, to depart from it.

TL NOTE:

Why do I get Yuri vibes? Like What if Seo-Ha has a special eherm attachment for her mentor, benefactor? I don’t it’s just probably me overthinking things. I haven’t seen any potential ML yet so I’m staring at Potential eherm FLs. Anyways, See you next chapter!
