Chapter 5 Part 1: Ignite

I took Seol Min-Jeon and Kim Tae-Byung out leaving behind the others. In fact, Seol Min-Jeon’s presence wasn’t necessary. However, my main purpose was to minimize the risk and help him get some contribution points during the process. If I train him well, he might become a formidable force in the future.

“Do you think I can really do it?”

Kim Tae-byung is more timid than others. His temperament was too weak to be a tanker. Unfortunately, neither I nor Seol Min-jeon had the patience to warmly comfort him, so we just ignored him.

“You have to.”

“Y-Yeah…”

We approached the oil whale cautiously. Due to its degenerated sense, It won’t be able to notice a little rustle, but everytime we hear a thump, we would start sweating profusely.

“Remember, you have to stick close.”

We walked towards the whale as slowly as we could. Time seemed to have pass by slowly. It was a tedious and arduous process. As the distance grew shorter, a heavy stench started permeating our noses. Our stomach started churning at the smell of kerosene.

After we settled on a pretty good spot, we were finally able to see the Oil Whale’s appearance. Its blind eyes were barely visible among the shed layers of skin. Its greasy and slimy exterior looked disgusting, and wherever it passes, oil trails were trailing behind it.

I closed and then opened my eyes.

«Spatial Interference»

Blue light suddenly formed and glowed inside my retina1. Spatial coordinates were then imprinted on my mind in a flash. It’s like a virtual reality game, where I’m doing some 3D modeling of an area.

I stared at a certain point at a distance then started to move, using my unique skill. I can feel the sensation of my body floating. It was disassembled and then reassembled again. As soon as I opened my eyes, that disgusting stench grew even heavier. I wanted to gag but couldn’t. I still have work to do.

~Swishh!

The lighter in my hand was ignited. When the oil whale finally noticed that something was wrong, it tried to swing into my direction. I shouted loudly:

“DO IT NOW!”

Piinnngh!

Kim Tae-Byeong started knocking on the iron plate on the ground.

Thump thump!

Vibrations reverberated through the soil immediately. The sensitive oil whale suddenly focused on that side. Then I immediately threw the lighter towards it.

The lighter flew in a parabolic arc, then as it finally touched the whale’s body…

Boommm!

~ROOOOOOOOOARRRRR

As soon as I saw the rising flame, I rolled on the ground a couple of times. Kim Tae-byung helped block the way. Roar! The oil whale was burning, writhing with oil spilling all over its body. It kept letting out terrifying screams.

“Ugh…”

The embers flew before us and we can feel the hot temperature. It must have been even worse for Kim Tae-byeong, who was in front of us. I quickly got up.

“Let’s go back.”

Kim Tae-byung nodded his head, roughly wiping his sweat with a piece of clothing.

Seol Min-jeon silently handed me a lighter. It was an extra lighter that we brought as a back up. In case I failed, Seol Min-Joon would have to throw it. If I and Kim Tae-byung failed, he would have to go back and tell the others about it. Either way, Seol Min-joon was also a bit apprehensive because it wasn’t a pleasant task.

“Good job.” Kwon Seong-min spoke up, after we returned to the group. I nodded my head and we started moving again. If we cross this bridge, we’d be able to reach the indoor gym.

“I wanted to help too…”

Kwon Seong-min grumbled. He was scratching the nape of his neck, he was smiling while looking like a pretty reliable man. But you can’t trust anyone inside the gate easily.

Even if they look harmless, and looked like a trustworthy person, you can’t really be sure whether they carry the title ‘Two-Faced Gentleman’.

If I were to speculate, Kwon Sung-min would probably be that type of person. Having two titles given to him, one of which would be a ‘Natural Leader‘ and  another one that reveals his true nature.

It was pretty common for Awakeners who have not made any notable achievements to carry two titles. As long as I don’t know that second title, I can’t just trust someone like Kwon Sung-min.

‘Come to think of it, when will this error be resolved?’

[Status window]

Name: Han Seo-Ha

Title: Regenerated Player, Who Opens ■■■■ of All ■■, ■■’s star, ki ■■■■’s Genius…

Unique Skill: Spatial Interference

It’s the first time I’ve encountered this phenomenon where the title was still not properly displayed on the status window. Once I get out of this gate, I will have to go to the Awakening lab or the Gate Lab to check.

Seol Min-joon still looked a bit lost, and Kim Tae-byeong was also very uncomfortable with the stench coming out of his clothes.

“Finally, over there!”

Beyond the collapsed concrete walls, a familiar building could finally be seen. It was the Indoor gym.

As a designated emergency shelter, it was well equipped with both electricity and drinking water. It was very spacious too so it’s the most suitable place to settle in at the moment.

It would take us three years to clear the gate, so we’d need a pretty sturdy place, with thick walls that can withstand monster attacks, and this is definitely the right place to go.

Everyone’s faces brightened. So far, the number of monsters we’ve encountered were three, but that does not include the once we passed by along the way. Due to the extreme tension, most of us have been having trouble sleeping, so knowing that we’re almost about to reach our destination, they felt relieved.

Before the gate incident, it would only be an hour’s walk to reach the gym from our previous location, but it took us three days to reach it. We can’t really help it, we’re carrying out heavy luggages and we had to avoid monsters along the way.

We hurriedly hastened our steps. However, before we can reach the indoor gym, something else happened. We witnessed an intense battle taking place nearby.

TL NOTE:

SORRY FOR THE LATE UPLOAD! Something came up yesterday and I was having internet issues.

Well at least they’re almost close to the gym.1
