Chapter 3: 3. Melody House

When Mo Xiaodan woke up, she was laying on a bed. Groaning, she massaged her sore neck and sat up. The ending rays of sunlight flooded into the room through the open windows.

"Where am I?" she muttered.

"Took you long enough to wake up," a grouchy woman's voice called out. "Get up! You've got work to do."

Startled, Mo Xiaodan screamed.

"Shut up! Get moving!"

Mo Xiaodan crawled out of bed. "Where am I?"

"You're in Melody House. Tonight, you'll be introduced."

Melody House? What is this place? Wait... Qin Xiu once talked about she had snuck into a ladies' house in Sihesheng and listened to the ladies sing and play music. C- could this place be the same? How did I get here?

Then, she remembered the man. Shivering, she pulled the robe around her tighter.

"Madam, i- is place a ladies' house?"

"I don't have time for this! Get dressed and get out to the main room!"

Left with no other choice, Mo Xiaodan padded over to the closet and picked out a light grey and sparkling silver, flowing gown. The sleeves and outer layer of the skirt were wide and made from chiffon. After dressing, she exited the bedroom and descended the stairs. The other women looked up at her, jealousy in their eyes.

Indeed, she was beautiful. But as the fairest and purest of all demons, why wouldn't she be? It was in her blood.

"Hello."

The others hmphed, but the Madam asked, "What's your name, girl?"

"M- Mo Xiaodan."

"Yes. I'm just training her."

The man moved his gaze from the Madam to Mo Xiaodan. That was when he noticed the mark on her neck.

Eyes sharpening, he asked, "Miss, is it your choice to be here?"

Mo Xiaodan felt the Madam's grip tighten even more. But she still answered, "No. I was knocked out in an alley and woke up in a bed here. Sir, if you're kind enough, please help me!"

In a flash, his sword was drawn. The tip was right under the Madam's chin.

With a growl, he said, "Release her."

"Who are you, sir, that you think you can just take my girl away?"

"She doesn't want to be here. That means she's not yours."

The Madam hissed. "Sir, I think it'd be best if you leave."

"I am Gongsun Li公孙力 - given name meaning Capable."

The older woman's eyes widened. "Y- Young Master Gongsun? What are you doing here?"

"It's First Young Master Gongsun to be precise. And I'm here investigating something since my father is busy with a case, he has me doing the public investigations."

"I- investigations? Into what?"

Gongsun Li's eyes narrowed. "Virgin sacrifice."

The Madam released Mo Xiaodan at once. She fled over to hide behind her savior.

"My mistake, Young Master Gongsun. Please, forgive me. We don't do such acts here!"

"I won't say anymore this time, but if I find out that you keep girls here against their wills, or if I find out someone here practices virgin sacrifice, I will not hesitate to bring Melody House to justice."

The older woman saluted. "Many thanks Young Master Gongsun!"

Gongsun Li turned his head to look at Mo Xiaodan.

"Miss, you're free to go."

He raised an eyebrow at her. "Really?"
