Chapter 137: Endure

"Aunty, I'm so sorry that I have to reject your kind invitation. But I'm planning to move out from the Shen residence. So I won't be able to join."

Xia Sha's pressed her lips tightly after she finished her sentence. She felt awful to reject Mother Guan, especially when she sounds so excited. She realized that Mother Guan probably heard Guan Xian's exaggerating story and took pity on her again. 

It's an invitation that she made full of thought. Xia Sha felt warm hearing Mother Guan's voice herself. But she couldn't imagine how awkward it would be if she went to Italy. 

Of course, Xia Sha had refused Mother Guan's offer politely. But she still felt nervous and scared if Mother Guan would felt offended. What if she decided not to like her after this?

No! She couldn't imagine living with a mother-in-law that doesn't like her. Life will be more torturous than watching Pang Ze Tian and Xia Xiang every day. 

"Ah? Why did you want to move out of your Shen residence? Did someone bully you too there? Xia Sha, if someone bullies or makes you upset, don't hesitate. Tell Guan Xian immediately. Don't carry the burden yourself. You have him now," Mother Guan sound worried. 

Xia Sha: "...?" 

She wonders what story did Guan Xian make this time. Honestly, she starts to think Guan Xian would be a great novelist if he pours his passion for exaggerating a story into words. 

Xiao Ni seems to think the same thing as Xia Sha. Xia Sha hears Guan Xian fake a cough and monotonously complain. 

"Mom, you watch me puppy-fight with her. How can others bully her so easily?" In other words, Xiao Ni wanted to say, "Mom! Big brother has fooled you again." 

Xia Sha's lips twitched. She remembers aunty Guan and her mother has gotten a warning letter from the headmaster for fighting in the past. Why did Xiao Ni need to bring that embarrassing story up? Where should she hide her face now? 

"What did you know? Do you think other people are as riotous as you?" Mother Guan shushed Xiao Ni quiet. 

Xia Sha: "..." Is their family is always this lively? 

"Aunty, don't worry. No one is bullying me. Guan Xian likes to overreact sometimes."

"Aiya, what overreacting? It's only a bodyguard. Guan Xian is worried about your safeties," Mother Guan sighed helplessly. This child-ah is too soft-hearted, she thought. 

"Ah? Bodyguard?" Xia Sha mumbles in confusion. She didn't know why aunty Guan suddenly mentions a bodyguard. But because she mumbles too low, mother Guan couldn't hear her. Instead, mother Guan tries to persuade her to come, once again. 

Xia Sha refused for one more time. She added another excuse to spend more time with her mother before the holiday end. Mother Guan, of course, to understand and accept her decision. She did not persist since Xia Sha said she has another thing to do. 

Unknown to Xia Sha, Mother Guan gave up quickly because Xiao Ni has whispered some words to her ears. 

"Mom! If you keep bothering Xia Sha like this, she will take big brother as a mommy boy!" 

Mother Guan quickly gave up.

She ended the call, but the tender feeling mother Guan has carry remain stayed on Xia Sha's heart. Because of this, her irritation at Guan Xian dissipated a little bit. 

She has decided she would make up with him next time she calls. That, of course, will only happen if he got his phone back from Mother Guan. 

Xia Sha was about to put back her phone when it vibrates again. When she read the caller's identity, she could not help but frown. Xia Sha's slender finger swipes the green button hesitantly as she put the phone closer to her ear. 

"Grandfather," she greeted the caller politely. 

Grandfather's Xia sound a bit displeased because Xia Sha sounds so distant and cold. But when he remembers she inherited Xia Qi Feng's hot temper, he couldn't say anything. 

"Oh, Xia Sha. Are you still angry at grandpa?" he asked carefully. 

Xia Sha holds her phone quietly when her grandfather questioned her. She did not reply. Instead, she diverts the conversation to another topic. 

"Grandpa, I heard you fall sick? I apologized for being too busy with work and did not take care of you enough."

"Hm, I knew you are throwing a tantrum. But I'm glad you remain passionate about work even when you are angry at me." Grandfather's Xia tried to soften Xia Sha's heart by appreciating her hard work in the company. 

"Thank you," Xia Sha answer sufficiently. 

"Xia Sha, are you free right now? Your father said you live with your mother now. I called the Shen residence before, but they said you are staying with your friend? Did grandpa bother you?" He asked gently. 

Grandfather Xia's softened tone make Xia Sha can't answer him coldly. She pushed back her ego to lashed out her anger but keep her distant attitude. 

"Something unpleasant happens to my friend. I just wanted to stay with her until she felt better."

"Then will it be convenient for you to visit your old grandfather? I'm still staying at the hospital," Grandfather Xia asked calmly. The tone he used was calm and composed. But underneath, he is criticizing Xia Sha for not visiting him in the hospital despite staying for quite some time now.

Xia Sha's eyebrow furrowed, and she got a headache instantly. Recalling Xiao Zhan's promised to delay everything before Xiao Yu's matter is clear, she decided to give in this time. 

"I'll come over right now."

Grandfather Xia was happy. He sounds more cheerful over the phone. After reprimanded her to drive safely, they ended the call. Xia Sha comes out of her apartment after she changed her clothes. 

She was surprised to see two men wearing black, leathered coats standing on the sides of Zheng Shuang's apartment. Her heart almost dropped on the floor, along with her bag. 

"Sister-in-law!" the two of them greet Xia Sha with the utmost respect.

Xia Sha's eyes flares open once again when they called with sister-in-law. Her lips twitched, sister-in-law? When did she become this looking dangerous people's sister-in-law? Did she accidentally hook up with the triad boss when she was drunk? Sleepwalking? 

Xia Sha look at the two fierce-looking guys and keep some distance away from them. After observing and pondering for a moment, Xia Sha realized she has been silly. 

It must be the bodyguard Mother Guan mentioned. 

Guan Xian, this guy, she doesn't even know how to express her feeling right now. She felt sour and sweet at the same time. 

"What is your name?" Xia Sha asked when she gains her composure back. 

"I'm Ren Wu, and he is Tu Yu! We are here to protect sister-in-law!" Ren Wu said excitedly. Despite his dark skin, tattoed neck, and intimidating posture, Xia Sha finds him looking quite funny when he smiles. 

In contrast, Tu Yu look calm and only nodded his head to Ren Wu's introduction. 

"Guan Xian told you two to protect me, right?" Xia Sha asked to ensure her guess. But when she saw them nodding, she quickly added, "I'm going to the hospital to visit my grandfather today. I don't think I need protection for now." 

They nodded. As if Guan Xian has given them a furthered and specific instruction, they bid Xia Sha's goodbye as they let her go. 

Xia Sha was at a loss. Shouldn't they persist to followed her like how it should be in the drama? They looked so relaxed and did not even move an inch from where they stand as Xia Sha walks to the elevator. 

Xia Sha keeps looking back to ensure they did not fool her. But they aren't moving at all. Ren Wu even waves his hand excitedly at Xia Sha.

"..."

She starts to get wary because they let her off the hook so smoothly. With Guan Xian's imaginative way of thinking, she can't seem to guess what they are planning behind her. 

She entered the elevator and watched Ren Wu and Tu Yu remind on their spot until the elevator door slides close. In the elevator, she took a deep breath and calmed down. 

Later, she quickly forgot about two weird guys Guan Xian send to guard her house as she drove to the hospital. Arriving only an hour later, she prepares her mind to face grandfather Xia. 

'He is still your grandfather, respect him,' Xia Sha's keep chanting that one particular sentence on her mind as she walked through the corridor. 

She prepared the best smiles as she carries his grandfather's favorite board game in her hand. But those smiles instantly replaced with a frowned when she finds another person sitting beside her grandfather's bed. 

"Oh, Xia Sha! What a coincidence!" 

"Grandfather Xiao," Xia Sha greeted the 'other' person politely as she walked inside the ward. Her face reminds natural and calm as she approached grandfather Xia and hug his fragile body. 

Grandfather Xia looked happy because Xia Sha has come. He asked her to sit on his side. They end up making a triangle position with grandfather Xiao as the center. To avoid an awkward situation, Xia Sha cleverly said she would peel some fruit for them. 

And so, she listens to grandfather Xiao and grandfather's Xia's conversation without getting involved. Xia Sha wanted to keep it this way, but surely these two old men would not let her off the hook easily. 

"Xia Sha, while grandfather Xiao is here, do you want to hear our story?" Grandfather Xia suddenly said, his eyes turned gentle as he felt nostalgic. 

"Old man, why did you torture your grand-daughter? She would die of boredom listening to our old days in the army," Grandfather Xiao laughed. 

Xia Sha lips twitched, she knew where is this going. Her grandfather is going to use the 'I own life to the Xiao's family' card to make her agree to the marriage. But it's not like she could refuse to blantanly. 

She smiles and shook her head. 

"No, I'm interested in a war story. Grandfather, do tell," her voice were soft and soothing. Grandfather Xia is greatly satisfied he nodded his head in adoration. 

Xia Sha felt her face has paralyzed for fake smiling.. Her butt is hurting and all she could tell herself is, endure, endure, endure.
