“What are you doing here, Esther?”
“I was going to check up on my sister.”
“Your sister?” I pondered.
"Yes, Dante. Esther is my sister." Anabelle confirmed, her expression becoming grave.
Her sister, she claimed?
But…
Regarding the story about her brother, was this the “family” she was referring to?
It became clear to me...
…This could never be a fairytale.
A Devil’s promise can never be unobjectionable.
“Esther? Why are you raising your voice?”
It was Trecia, their mother. She arrived at the front door, standing next to Esther, not expecting anyone to be near Anabelle, yet I stood there, next to her. A strange sensation gushed through my body.
“Dante? What are you doing here?”
“I- uhm…”
"It's time for you to depart, Dante. Your family is expecting you in your chamber." She instructed, effectively cutting me off.
"Of course, madam." I replied, offering Anabelle a fleeting glance before exiting the room. Walking past Esther felt like narrowly avoiding a hungry feline.
.....
We are being kept in the hands of the malevolent.
The benevolence of a noble family taking notice of the less fortunate... It touched me, truly.
But I also felt betrayed.
…..
Upon my return to my chamber, I was greeted by a jovial atmosphere. Dennis extended his hand towards me, while father stood next to him alongside Madison. It appears that Mother and the others remained at our new residence. Thomas' parents were also present, their joyfulness palpable.
I was the sole exception, feeling nothing but dread.
I wanted to tell them about the gravity of the reality we might be throwing ourselves into, but…
I couldn’t.
Am I wicked for feeling this way?
But… that can’t be, right…? I… I don’t know what is to come for us all.
I felt afraid.
“Ah, there he is!”
“Where’d you go, Dante? You were gonna miss our departure onto greatness!”
“Hello, all. The time has arrived, it seems.” I responded.
Father reached out to me, “The others are waiting for you at our new house.”
“Yes… I already assumed.”

“You must be Dante. It’s the first time seeing you face to face.” Caroline instigated.
“The pleasure is mine, madam." I responded.
"We have arranged two separate carriages for our journey. All of your belongings have been packed and we are ready to depart at any moment." Dennis informed me.
I very much wished I could speak with Anabelle one last time, but alas, I sadly couldn't.
Speaking of the new place, it was apparently given a name, a french name to be exact. It was named, Les Maison des corbeaux. Sounding grand for an ordinary house. I wondered if it was named such for a specific purpose.
I will miss our old cottage though…
"Excuse me, may I inquire as to the fate of our former abode?" I asked.
"No decisions have been made at present. Rest assured, everything has been relocated to your new house, so there is no concern of losing anything." Dennis replied.
“I see.”
That means that I will still always be able to visit the cottage on my own…
Several moments had elapsed and both Esther and Trecia rejoined us as we were departing from the chamber.
“Dante, me is feelin’ a bit nervous. What do you think the houses will look like?” Thomas inquired.
“Not sure… but it must be better than our old places, right?”
“You sure are, hehe! I’ve always dreamt of sleeping on a solid bed, instead of the harsh floor!”
“Right…”
Were it not for Thomas's unwavering optimism, I may have been overcome by doubts.
I am immensely grateful that he is still with us. He serves as the pillar of my stability and is instrumental in preventing me from succumbing to madness. I wish for him to experience the most fulfilling life he could ever dream of.
We made our way towards the front entrance, passing by Anabelle's chamber, I couldn't help but feel an eerie stillness emanating from the room.
(Don’t worry, Anabelle, I will return shortly.)
As we stepped outside, the sun's radiant rays beamed down upon us. Two carriages, each pulled by a duo of horses, were waiting in front of the hospital. The drivers were perched atop the carriages, ready to transport us to our new abodes.
I realized that I had never explored this part of the hospital before. The surroundings were tranquil and serene. To the far left was a small playground surrounded by trees and foliage. The extent of the field seemed to be quite significant, giving off a strong aura of nostalgia. I gazed at it for a few moments until Thomas prodded me with his crutch.
“What’ya standing there for? Come come, little Dantee..."
“Shut it, Thomas.”
“Still dreaming about that gal, don’t worry mate, there are many days to come. But don’t forget, you did promise me that we would be playing around together. Gotta be a man of your words, ya?”
"Thomas, it is not a matter of a promise when it comes to spending time with you." I replied, tapping him on the shoulder, and walked past him, leaving him in a state of bewilderment and confusion.
“Heh? What do ya mean by that? Hey, Dante!”
Onto the new stage.
Open the curtains.
For fright has yet to divulge itself.
Dante, will you set your hope on the Devil?
Do you see the Devil as your sole saviour?
What or who is the Devil really?
