Chapter 4: Ch3 Paradise on the mountain

A group made out of 3 humans and a beasthybrid made their way to the foot of Star Mountain.

"John, do you think it was a good idea to take..that along?" One of the men questioned the leader, John.

John looked at his friend, Sammy annoyed before his gaze trailed to the beastwomen with them.

"I'm sorry about him Miss Wer, he just has a bad mouth but I can assure you that he doesn't discriminate against beastpeople."

The beastwomen just nodded her head and stayed silent.

It was an odd group. Normaly there were frictions between humans and beastpeople as the latter had some blood of monsters in them.

Especially in the rural regions they were frowned upon. 

The group was made out of John, the leader of the party. Sammy, a childhood and adventurer buddy of John. Tania, one of the mages in their city and also a fellow party member of the former two and Miss Wer, a wolfhybrid.

They came to this god forbidden zone to find a rare flower which was said to heal any kind of infection.

John's wife and daughter got infected by a curse with several others from their city. The Wolfhybrid overheard the mumbling of the drunken John and asked if he would be willing to help her with doing something in exchange for her helping him get the Star Flower.

John just sneered at her first, who would believe a stranger? A Hybrid to boot! It wasn't until the next day that he run to the library and found out that there really was a flower which could cure about everything.

The problem was where the flower grew. Star Mountain was known as a forbidden zone to everyone. It was known that there were at least four Beast Monarchs living there. Who knew what else?

After finding the Hybrid from the last day he inquired why she would help and what her favor was. When he heard that she wanted to fullfill the last wish of her and see the Ancestor of their tribe he became dumbfounded.

Wasn't tha like saying she wanted to do suicide in the mouth of one of the Monarchs? The Star Mountain Wolf?

After striking a deal with her and explaining the state of affairs to his two party members, they set out. 

The nearer they drew to Star Mountain, the les was talked. It didn't help with the cry of the Sky Monarch before they reached the foot of the mountain.

Weirldy enough, after begining to walk and climb up the mountain, there were no encounters with any wildlife.

The beastwomen couldn't help but to point this out to the other three.

"Something isn't right, let alone some small animals. There weren't even bugs on our way since we climbed the last wall."

Tania, which didn't say anything since the beginning nodded. "It's as if we are invited to climb, like a bait thrown out to lure us in."

Sammy looked at the two woman in rage. " Can't you say something like, we are so lucky to not have met any monsters or aggresive animals yet? Why so negative?!"

It didn't help that Wer plainly answered him which made him even more enraged. 

"If I can smell human scent from several hundred meters away. What do you think real monster and animals could do?"

Before Sammy could outrage the voice of John was coming from the front.

"Sam, they are right. Something is weird. Why would this place be declared a death zone if one could just walk in freely? The ressources behind us are enough to make a family rich! No way they would be still there if some gutsier ones didn't met their demise!"

Sammy was silent, he breathed in and let out a chuckle.

"True, maybe we are already the prey of one of the Monarchs? Thats why no other dares to come near us?" He tried to sound funny but the other three were looking at him with hatred.

"Please, don't jinx that! No don't even speak anymore or else I will burn you!" Tania was mad, was he dumb or just fearless? If needed she would barbeque him to make him more attractive to the monarchs so they could flee!"

Sammy rolled his eyes and looked over his shoulder to Tania. "C'mon it was..just..a..joke?..."

The duo behind him stoped in their tracks and gazed at Sammy's pale face. What was wrong with him?

John, which heard the weird sound of Sammy also looked behind him. What he saw made him tremble all over. Their luck couldn't be that good, right?

It didn't take long for Wer to know that something was behind them, Tania too suddenly jerked up. If they didn't jinx it, why did this asshole have to do that?

Behind them about 30meters away was a bear looking at them with a "friendly" smile. Well, at least it tried to. It was the Star Mountain Bear which was towed in for the mission by Wolf.

As it was a little older it knew that humans were prone to flee after seeing them. So it laid out a plain for trapping. Et Voilà, it worked!

They quintet didn't ready their weapons, this was a freaking Monarch! How they could tell? Well a 20 meter big bear wasn't a normal monster for sure!

"It lo-looks friendly?" Jimmy tried to play it down, why die with hatred if you can be eaten with happiness?

Wer was the only one in the group which found this behaviour weird. Why would a Monarch sit and just look at them?

"I think it wants us to continue?" She said after some seconds of thinking. They shouldn't be alive normaly.

"Continue? So it doesnt need to carry his food supply long?" Tania couldn't help but be sarcastic. Monarchs were the stuff which ripped people apart for pleasure!

John slwoly took in his surroundings which made him almost faint. To the right was an Hercules Beetle towering at over 5 meters and to the left a Moose which he didn't even notice at first. What was he? That were at least 30+ meters!

"I'm sorry to have you all die here like this...I don't know what they want but I'm sure that Miss Wer is right." John couldn't help but shed tears. Why? Why was his life so miserable!

As for those who think were the Wolf is..well, he was made to wait at the far back because they all consented to him not being to friendly looking. The three being seen can be categorized in Plant orientated eater, he couldn't.

The other three were puzzled but as their gaze wanderd around the surroundings they too had a helpless smile.

Wer thought to herself how unlucky one can be. Not even are they surrounded by three Monarchs, it didn't include one of her Ancestors!

Tania was thinking about something, if her thought was true, humans may soon be doomed.

"I would like to propose and slowly go up. Let's not even talk about fighting back, what could possibly command Monarchs to do their biddings?"

The first half of her statetement was ok, as the others heard the latter half though, they froze. What could command Monarchs? 

As their gazes wandered from one monster to the other they couldn't help but tremble even more. It did seem like they were listening to orders!

"Let me try something, I am the one who is the reason for this!" John took all his strength in his wobelly legs ans slowly ascended. He always looked at the bear and saw him "smiling". For the next step he went towards the left and was immediately met with a stomp from the moose.

"Sure enough, they want us to go upwards..." It was Johns way of confirming things. The other three sighed and also slowly began to almost crawl towards the top.

Sometimes did the beetle make its way towards them and the moose walked further away. It was the sign that they had to change course.

They slowly began to accept the fact that something was commanding those beings to lead them towards it. Whatever it was should be something unknown to the rest of the world. They will probably take it to their grave too.

Only Wer was somewhat puzzled. At first she didn't think about it but now that the situation was somewhat calmer she suddenly understood that none of those Monarchs were giving of a scent. No, the whole mountain was fresh, even some trees didn't smell!

After some hours of climbing they finally got to their destination. They knew it because there was a giant wolf standing outside a clearance waiting for them.

Wer had tears in her eyes. Most ancestors of Hybrid beings came from this mountain. That was also a reason why it was classified as a deathzone.

Monsters who could breed with humans had one thing in common. They could morph! It was said that long ago there was no war between the living beings on this world. Suddenly there was. Some said it was the monsters fault, other said it was human greed.

When Star Wolf saw the hybrid it looked puzzled. That human gave of a weird sentence which belonged to its race! Were there others out there?

It wanted to know it but the Pond God has commanded. It looked at the other three Monarchs and nodded. Before the four could know what was going on the wolf was making a gesture with its head which could only be seen as, go on this way.

When they walked beside the mountain, which was the wolf, they felt and saw something which made a bigger impact on them than the Monarchs.

"Is this paradise?" John and the others couldn't help but feel so.

"Oh my God! I can understand you! Hahah this is going to be fun!"
