Az slowly placed his hand on the ogre’s head and muttered, “awake.”

The lifeless body immediately began to twitch uncontrollably, and Az, scared by it, immediately jumped backward.

“Don’t worry, lad,” Ogron commented in amusement as he balled a fist. “I will take care of it.”

The twitching body slowly rose up, with the ogre's head hanging lifelessly. Ogron only commented with a deep voice, "fidem novo domino tuo iura." (Latin for: "swear loyalty to your new master.")

The ogre roared in fury and immediately jumped at Ogron, only for him to sidestep and punch the ogre's chest with such a devastating force that he crashed against a few trees.

However, Ogron only repeated the sentence from before as he casually walked towards the ogre. "sortem novam tuam ut fidelis servus accipe." (Latin for: "accept your new fate as a loyal servant.")

Confused by his words, Az shouted, "Master, what are you even saying!?"

"Nothing important," Ogron continued as he slowly grabbed the ogre by its hair and lifted it to eye level.

Seeing how the ogre did not yield, Ogron slowly got impatient and grabbed the ogre's eyeball and ripped it out. A painful scream echoed through the forest as Az was confused. "The dead can still feel pain?" he gulped as he watched the gruesome scene of a laughing skeleton torturing an ogre by skinning it to its bones.

But even after the ogre pleaded in an unknown language, "Me trado," (Latin for: "I surrender"), Ogron only laughed, "Now it is too late buddy," as he continued until only the flesh on its calves remained. The ogre, by now, knelt in Az's direction as pieces of flesh were still hanging from its rips.

"Az!" Ogron shouted multiple times, trying to get Az's attention. But he was lost and mentally scarred at what he had just seen.

"Wh-What!?" the kid stuttered, only for Ogron to sigh, "fuck, I forgot that you are barely a teen. Anyway, come here and place your hand again on its skull so that it can swear loyalty."

Startled, Az did what he was told, walking with wobbling legs towards the two while also avoiding the small river of blood and the chunks of flesh laying everywhere that lay everywhere.

Nevertheless, he placed his hand on the ogre's head, and a trembling voice stated, "fidem tibi iuro." (Latin for: "I swear loyalty.") Confused, Az looked at his master, who impatiently sighed, "say I accept and give him a name."

"I accept... ehm...oger_1?" Az stated after taking a sigh, and the ogre's eyeholes began to glow in green light.

"That was a shitty name, like as if you were naming a fucking NPC," Ogron whispered quietly. "Anyway, from now on the Oger will understand all of it's command and will serve you until you relieve it from its duty."

"Sorry, I'm just bad with name-" but before Az could finish, Ogron stated, "we will be walking towards the west."

...

A few days later:

Thankfully, due to Ogron’s mere existence, most creatures that had bad intentions completely avoided us as we moved from one grave to the other, searching for any promising souls.

Even though the past few chapters made necromancy seem kinda easy, in truth, it is not. The only thing Az has been doing is finding souls that have not left their death place for whatever reason and ask them for their assistance.

You are reading story A necromancer’s adventure. at novel35.com

Quite a lot of souls refuse to leave their death-place due to regret or grief, for example. Like most males, some souls seek a more noble death, like dying to protect someone… And Az, a child, walking around in the godforsaken forest, is their only chance for such a death.

Another method is to force a lingering soul into submission. But for that, you have to be capable of suppressing a soul. This method is especially complicated since souls are also capable of self-destructing.

Lastly, the most typical method used by necromancers all over the world is to possess a dead body whose soul is no longer dwelling amongst the living. In truth, most souls get destroyed one way or the other, let alone have a strong enough will to remain in the land of the dead. Generally, strong mage souls survive only by getting spared by fellow mages or in certain environments that make it easier for souls filled with regret to stay amongst the living.

Anyway, I think that was enough info-dumping for today.

“Are you sure this is the right place, master?” Az asked carefully, as he stopped his half-rotting horse in front of a small hill.

Ogron merely nodded. “I sense a strange soul coming from there. It’s almost radiating, and the moment it sensed me, it started pestering me.”

“What a strange fellow,” Az muttered before jumping down. By now, the 1,5m tall kid (or, for our americanos: 4,9 feet) wore a black coat riddled with holes that once belonged to one of the dead.

Nevertheless, Az grabbed a thick stick and used it to remove some dirt while searching for the skeleton. Thanks to Ogron, however, the skull was found within mere minutes.

Ogron slowly offered Az an old skull filled with countless cracks. Scared of breaking it by simply touching it wrongly, Az gently placed his finger on it and muttered, “awake.”

The entire hill began to tremble, and Ogron immediately took action. Like a rugby player, the skeleton grabbed Az before jumping fifty meters as the hill behind the two exploded.

“Scary skeleton,” Ogre_1 muttered as a strange pressure rivaling Ogron’s awakening began to spread.

“I’m finally awake, juhu,” shouted a flying skull as bones from everywhere shot out of the sky, flying straight toward the skull, assembling the skeleton in midair.

“What in the abomination have you forced me to summon,” I whispered quietly as I heard an eerily laugh coming from it. “Finally, my wait has come to an end, kekekeke.”

“He is a bit too energized,” Ogron quietly muttered, standing in front of me.

“Master, maybe you should beat some sense into that thing as well?” I whispered, and the latter nodded, balling his hand to a fist before glancing at the tall ogre. “Buddy, protect your master,” and ogre_1 did as he was told.

But before anyone could anticipate, the skeleton in midair sprinted towards Az in laughter, and Ogron jumped between the two of us, ready to end the latter’s foolish theatrics.

However, the skeleton dodged the incoming fist by bending its body in an unnatural way, and before I knew any better, a strong gush of wind hit me from behind as I heard the world, “I. got. you.”
