After gatting back to the academy , Almark and Morgen once again had to stay in the dormitory, where there were still few days , until the end of the vacation.

On their first day at the Academy, they were busy writing responses to letters from Nelson and Liltie, and visiting the headmaster with gifts (even though he was out of academy's grounds ), but from the next day on, life was so dull and that they wondered what had happened to their days at the winter estate.

However, even though their life was dull one, there was a change in their minds.

Almark had originally focused on meditation and reading during his vacation, but after his return, he began to read various books even more diligently.

He also worked more focused than ever on his meditation training in preparation for his post-vacation magical teaching.

Surprisingly, even Morgen began practicing magic with great enthusiasm.

"After all this time, I know now that my magic is useless if something happens to me."

　Saying so, Morgen silently practiced his magic.

Even to Almark's amateur sight, he could see that Mogen's magic had been improving since that last time.

They had finished breakfast as usual and were about to leave the dining hall when , the dorm manager, Maia, suddenly stopped them.

“Yes!"

　Maia sighed.

“I'm sorry, but you young people these days don't understand unless I tell you every single time. You are the senior students in this dormitory, you don't need me to tell you .What should you do if Cassis catches a summer cold?"

　After hearing that much, Morgen finally realized that Cassis is the name of an old man who takes care of the equipment and simple repairs in the dormitory.

"Who is this Mr. Cassis, Morgen?”

　His words caught Maia off-guard.

“He's been looking after this place every day and you don't even know his name! You've been living here for a few month ! You ungrateful bastard!”

　Maia yells at him.

"No, I haven't."

　But Morgen intervenes .

Maia's eyes were telling Almark that he couldn't be reasoned with, and it wasn't magic or anything, but Almark could see it.

“I don't know if you guys think of Cassis as just a convenient servant, but he's a fine man in his own right . This dormitory won't be able to exist without him.”

Maia continued to speak without paying attention to the two of them.

“We must take care of Cassis so he doesn't leave. How can he work when he has a cold? Fortunately, we are on vacation right now, so there are only nine students, including you. It's only a fraction of what Cassis usually does, and you two can do it. It's the responsibility of the senior students. You are usually so ungrateful, you should return the favor in this way."

It sounds reasonable, but this is not the way to put it.

"The third-floor handrail is broken, so you'll have to fix it. You know the tools are in the tool room that Cassis always uses, right?"

"I know!"

　Maia nodded and walked away as Mogen answered.

"Mogen. Maia's behavior is not very polite. Why do you have to be so silent and do what she says?"

Almark shook his head as Maia left .

"The first year of was full of problems, especially when we didn't know what was going on and we were really annoyed by it. Besides."

"Besides?"

"This is just a rumor."

Morgen said to Almark in a low voice.

'I heard that if anyone disobeys her , she will give you a hard time. she will lock you in the basement of this dormitory."
