In the lounge area, Omega, Sylen and Mirian were sitting at a round table. All of them were having a hot, steaming mug before them, filled to the brim with coffee. Mirian was accompanied by two of his bodyguards, now wearing their black overalls, with pistols holstered at their sides. One of them was the fish-like man, the other was a stocky woman, her body covered in crimson colored fur. Her face was human-like and she had long, white tusks, coming out from her jaw.
“So…” Sylen asked, looking at the guards first before turning towards Mirian. “Everything is okay?”
“Oh, yes, yes!” Mirian nodded, now wearing one of Sylen’s clothes, a white shirt and a blue, working trousers, feeling relaxed and unbothered. Only it seemed, the top was a bit tight at the chest area. “Thank you for the spares, I had not saved much from the ship!” She sighed, shaking her head.
“What were you even doing here? All alone?” Omega asked, dunking a cookie into his coffee.
“Exploring.” Mirian answered simply.
“Without guards?” He asked back quickly.
“I had them, but we were ambushed. They drew away the bulk of the Enforcers, so we escaped. Those two you saw were tailing us through three systems already. So… we got ourselves lost a bit. Ehehe~”
“Oh, I see.” Omega nodded, munching on his cookie not asking for more details.
“Did you find anything?” Instead Sylen asked it, curious.
“Sadly, no.” Mirian sighed, copying Omega and starting to dunk her own cookie into her coffee. “We only came across a prison planet, that was when we were attacked.”
“A prison planet?” Omega looked up, raising one of his eyebrows.
“The Wulfhaarn has a very loose civilization. Every planet of theirs is like a nation in itself. One of them is only a few empty systems away from where we were exploring. When we arrived we discovered that they had established a ‘colony’ on a… barren word. It has a breathable atmosphere. They house their slaves, criminals there, forcing them to mine the planet’s mineral resources. The moment we arrived we were targeted to be captured. I don’t think they knew who I was, or they would have followed us with more ships.” She explained it, shaking her head. “I was lucky.”
“It is dangerous to be out there, exploring by yourself!” Omega said, prompting Mirian’s guards to also nod, agreeing with him.
“So I should send others to danger while I sit back at home? I am not like that!” She protested with a strong voice. “Did Kaltazar lead from behind? No. He was the first to enter a system, the one who led them into battle and one who led them to discover Saphir!”
“Haahh… those were different times.” Omega said but he was not keen to start an argument about it. Especially because he liked her attitude even if he was criticizing her at that instant.
“A leader should lead! I totally get it and agree with you!” Sylen said on the other hand, sitting there proudly, looking at Mirian with admiration in her eyes.
“Thank you~” She smiled, rubbing her head, scratching behind her ears, turning Sylen’s tail into a propeller. “And? What about you and that big machine, strapped onto your ship?”
“It is a pretty long story!” Sylen said happily and Omega just let her explain everything. He was only interjecting about things Sylen had no knowledge about. It took her more than an hour to tell her everything.
“I see…” Mirian said, leaning back, her mug already emptied out. Her bodyguards were exchanging glances, the female raising one hand, tapping away on the built in communicator in her gauntlet. “That really sounds like Admiral Jankho. I admire his capabilities and achievements but I dislike his attitude towards a lot of things.” Mirian sighed. “So they have all the data from the machine?”
“Yes.” Omega nodded. “I let them download all the data inside of it… but I took it as an exchange for the suit.” He smiled.
“And what about the armor then?” She smiled back at him, leaning forward, resting her chin on her crossed fingers.
“I want to exchange it. With you.” He said, turning the guards’ heads towards him, accompanied by Sylen’s questioning look.
“I am listening.” Mirian said, maintaining her smile.
“In exchange, I want a simple solution for their problems.” He inclined his head towards Sylen. “And you, to back us up, against them.”
“I alone can’t do that, they have more power.” Mirian shook her head but then she continued. “But I may have a solution for you! The army is close to the Merchants Guild. The amount of money that gets exchanged between them, the contracts and rights to manufacture their ships and weapons… They are like best buddies!” She chuckled.
“You have your own good friend I assume?” Omega flashed a small smile.
“I am on good terms with Professor Keshnar as I was his pupil in my younger years.” Mirian said. “He is the leader of the research department and he is mostly natural when it comes to the inner workings of the Neo-Hegemony. But presenting something like your… Suit of Ares…” She looked at them as Omega just nodded, understanding her thinking. “We could get another strong backer for you! The Admiral would not want to step on his toes and risk the possibility that a second ship like the Veil won’t be developed!” She giggled playfully. “What do you say?”
“I see no problems with that.” Omega replied, prompting Mirian to laugh.
“Ahaha! Great!” She clapped, then said something none of the others expected. “Can you accompany me to my room for a little bit? Alone?”
“...”
“...”
“...”
Even Omega was surprised, letting it show on his face, blinking his eyes rapidly.
“That doesn’t seem… appropriate.” He scratched his throat. Hearing him, Sylen tried to say something but the words were stuck in her throat and her face was turning bright red.
“Thinking back…” Mirian tilted her head, rubbing her chin, “It really came out wrong! But I just want to talk with you. Privately.”

“Haahh… Sure.” He gave up, finally making Mirian’s guards step forward. Yet before they or Sylen could interject, she clapped.
“Okay! Let’s go! You, go back and rest, you are relieved!” She ordered her men as she left with Omega.
“What happened just now?” Sylen asked, blinking her eyes, stunned.
“I want to know that too.” The two guards answered at the same time.
…
….
…..
Mirian’s cabin was simple, she only had a bed and her own showering station and nothing more. She was not about to complain as it was still much more than what her men had as they were housed in one of the smaller cargo holds. She even liked the simplicity, it was a nice and interesting change.
“I am all ears.” Omega said, after the door closed behind them and Mirian sat down on her bed, looking up at him with a faint smile.
“You are a human.” She said, her green eyes almost glowing.
“I-” Omega opened his mouth to answer immediately but Mirian just countered him.
“Your bone structure was off.” She said, shining a light from her fleshlight through her own palm. “Yours were that of a human. I studied history a lot. My kind has a different bone structure and composition.” She showed it to him, and true, her palm had a circular, solid bone in it and the fingers were connecting to that. “I don’t know how you imitated us, but you missed a trivial thing.”
“...”
“Also, discovering human tech? Knowing so much about it? Recovering it? Piloting it? Maybe I am young… and maybe that is why I can accept that the older leaders can’t... The fact that you are a human!” She said, standing up, looking into his eyes, breathing much faster than before. “And your name is not Alfonse… Sylen stumbled way too many times on it.”
“Haaah…!” Omega sighed, wearing a defeated smile. “Yes. You are right.”
Mirian’s eyes lit up with an even stronger light, softly squealing a little, before regaining her composure, holding back from grabbing onto his hands.
“Here.” He chuckled, letting her hold his hands and flash her light on it. Now they remained as they were.
“I can’t believe it… a real… human… walking amongst us…! What happened? Not just to you, but to the whole species!” She asked, wanting to ask so many other things at once.
“I can only tell you what I told Sylen and Miyon.” Omega said, sitting down, explaining his short history to her. “The only thing I can truly recall is being on a white ship. There are only fragments of even that. But I know I was called Omega there and I was ordered to do… things. Before, I don’t know why or how, ending up in space, floating amongst nothing.”
“Sounds like a nightmare, if you ask me!” Mirian said, gently stroking his hair, but it was to get a feel how similar a human was to her, in every aspect.
“It was. But… that was then, now is now! So… what now?” Omega smiled.
“I am going to help you! You and them, of course! As I said, I am not a naive little girl~” She winked at him. “I won’t go back and start shouting, ‘I found a human!’, that would create more trouble than positives! Everyone would want to see you, everyone would either believe you or start suspecting something. Bringing one human back would be not enough… it would simply create endless problems.”
“I am getting more and more interested in you.” Omega replied, raising his brows.
“Ahahaha, the feeling is mutual~” She laughed, patting his hands. “But you need to stick with me! I have plans and I could use your brain to help me out with it! The way you told me… I could introduce you to a lot of things and see what pops up in your head!” She giggled, looking at him like some artifact, ready to reveal its secrets. “Same with Sylen and Miyon! They can come, of course! Don’t worry, I am not like the Admiral!”
“No, you are not.” Omega agreed. “We can stick around and I will help you with whatever you want. I am trying to recover my memories, teaming up with someone who wants to explore… that sounds like a plan!”
“Happy to hear it! First, let us get back behind our own borders. I am going to iron out any problems that may arise, you can relax! Leave that to me! After that I am going to get us into a meeting with the Professor and strike a deal! He is going to be ecstatic to work on something like the… Xanthe?”
“Yes, that is this unit’s name.”
“Mmm! Ahaha~ I can already see the old man salivating!” Mirian chuckled.
“I am going to be thankful to you, if you can manage it.” He said, standing back up, fixing his clothes.
“Ahaha, no problem… Omega~” She grinned, not keeping him back from leaving.
When the door opened, Sylen and the rest of Mirian’s guards almost fell into the room. They were glued to the door, trying to listen in, without any success.
“Come!” Omega said, catching Sylen, flipping her around and pushing her away.
“Eh?! Ah?! I… just!” She stuttered, confused but it was no time to ask questions as Omega ‘carried’ her away.
“You…” Mirian shook her head, watching her guards that were there for her, since she could remember. “Go back and get ready! These three are now under MY protection! Do you know what that means?!”
“Yes, My Lady!” The two sprang up immediately, saluting.
“Good! Good~” She nodded repeatedly, leaning back against the ship’s wall, smiling, thinking about the many ideas swirling in her head.
