Ezekiel’s last question left Alpha with more questions than he would like. Thinking about his monologue and why he was made… he fell into long hours of silence, thinking about many things.
“Still thinking about it?” Marin asked as she sat next to him two days after Ezekiel’s call.
“Yeah…” He nodded, hugging her shoulders.
“And what do you want to do?”
“You mean?” He looked at her, unsure as to what she meant.
“I mean, ask yourself this; What do you want to do?” She said. “Don’t listen to his words; listen to yours! The one that comes from here!” She smiled, tapping at his chest. “Do what you believe you want to do! That guy is nothing but an old fogey! Nobody knows why we are here! I mean, why we came into being? Why did I? Because my Mom wanted a child? And? Isn’t that enough? Why would it be different for you?”
“...”
“You just need to do what you want to do!”
“I never thought about that.” Alpha said, gently playing with her hair, looking into her eyes, finding solace in them. “I never truly had a goal. This project just came to me, and before I blinked my eyes, we were making the suits and testing them out. Then here I am, piloting my own.”
“I know the reason for that!” Marin said, planting a kiss on his cheek. “Me!”
“...” He looked at her, tilting his head to the right, letting her explain.
“I was bored waiting for you, so I started playing around with the simulators! Then bam! It turned out I am a good pilot! And a badass Warrior Princess!” She grinned proudly. “And when you came, you played along with me.”
“It was not a play…”
“Ahaha, You know what I mean! You did this because I enjoyed it, and you accompanied me!”
“I-”
“Ssh~” Marin chuckled. “Now it is time to decide what you want to do! This time it will be me who follows you~”

It came as a surprise for captain Daokus when he received orders for transfer. At the same time, his two elite pilots were called back to Earth. As to why, there was no reason given, only an order to comply. They were already gone when he wanted to find answers with the two. He was left there, stupefied, something that he would not understand, not even on his deathbed.
“Are you sure about this?” Alpha asked, feeling guilty.
“I told you already!” Marin laughed, flicking his nose as the two sat on a shuttle nearing Prometheus Station.
“You are a good pilot… leaving just-”
“Hey!” Marin said, now with a raised voice, looking angry. “I told you! I am going to go with you! I enjoyed piloting my suit! But I enjoy being with you more! Plus… here I could raise our child with a much more stable background~” She grinned as it was also true. For now, they were the only ones who knew that Marin was pregnant, and they had not told anybody else yet.
“I can’t, and I won’t argue with that!” Alpha smiled, leaning in and kissing her. “I am going to take it easy. See what kind of inventions would help us out on a larger scale. I already sent word, and Keelan is here, ready to start working again. The old man was fired up like a kid!”
“What about Mom?” Marin asked.
“Liz is finishing her study on the new bug-like species. She said she would come back 4 or 5 months later!”
“Fufufu, then don’t tell her!” Marin winked at Alpha. “Let it be a surprise when she comes back! I should have a big belly by then!”
“Ahaha! Okay, okay! I won’t tell!” Alpha nodded, looking relaxed and happy. It was the first time he felt as if he had made his own decision; coming back to Prometheus station and devising new inventions, things that would help the military and the Hegemony as a whole.
He still didn’t understand what Ezekiel meant by what he said. He didn’t know what he wanted from him, but he had a feeling inside his heart. He wanted to help the people. Everyone who was part of the Hegemony. Not because he was indebted to humans for creating him. Simply because he wanted to have a world where Marin and the soon-to-be-born child of theirs would grow up happily.

The walls were covered with bookshelves, only leaving a free rectangular space to have a window to the outside world and to the image of Earth. The floor was made from the same light-blue carpet that laced Alpha’s old room, giving him a nostalgic feeling every time he stepped on it. Before the window, he had a U-shaped table filled with plans and schematics, all done by hand in an already old and archaic way. Of course, his table had a holographic projector in it, and it was turned on. Its greenish light lit up the dark room as he watched a complex equation flickering before him. He barely blinked his eyes, leaning back in his puffy, leather chair, tapping on its armrest. That was when the door to his ‘office’ slid open, and Marin walked in. She only wore a thin, pink nightgown reaching down to her thighs.
“She finally fell asleep!” She chuckled while walking in, sitting on his lap, and leaning back against his chest. “Next time, you are going to bathe the little devil! Even the ceiling got soaked!” She laughed, talking about their daughter, Kaya.
“You don’t need to tell me!” He chuckled, returning from his stupor, and patting her head. “Yesterday, I took her to the park, and she plastered the ice cream from her big toes to her forehead! I only took my eyes off for half a minute!”
“Teehee~” Marin grinned. “Well… Mom says she is truly like how she was as a kid. At least she knows not to use her gift willy-nilly!”
“She is a smart girl.” Alpha nodded with a proud light in his eyes.
Kaya was already four years old and a little version of Marin with her father’s eyes. She was like a little sun, brimming with energy, and just as Alpha finished speaking, the door opened again, and she walked in. She was dressed in a onesie with bunny ears on its hood. She sleepy rubbed her violet eyes, dragging a blanket behind herself with another hand.
“I peed.” She murmured, announcing her success in doing it alone and without any accidents.
“Tsk, I told you to do it before going to bed!” Marin said, getting out from her husband’s lap, walking to her, and picking up the little muffin.
“But I only had to go now!” She said as her words were clear and concise, hugging her mother. “Huggies!” She demanded, looking at Alpha.
“Come here!” Her dad laughed, letting the two sit on his lap, hugging them. “You have been spoiled rotten, aren’t ya?” He chuckled, tickling Kaya and drawing a giggle out of her.
“Daaaaad!” She ‘protested’ but deeply enjoyed the attention she was receiving. “I want to sleep with you!” Then she tilted her head, looking at her parents’ flickering strings. “Why are you looking at me like that?” She asked, confused for a moment.
“Ah!” The two flinched simultaneously, looking at each other, blaming the other for their twisted minds.
“Hmmm?” Kaya tilted her head the other way before shrugging, thinking her parents were weird, and letting out a pitying sigh as she watched them. “Daaaaaaad!” She moaned, looking at the green projection. “I’m sleepy; let’s go sleep!” She snuggled between the two, wanting to sleep with her parents, a trait she had never really grown out of. “You can finish the weird music later!”
“Music?” Alpha asked, stopping himself from getting up and looking at Kaya with a raised eyebrow.
“Um!” She nodded, reaching out and tapping at the projection of Alpha’s equation.
She did not understand it. She did not know what it was. But she saw the same strings as her father. Her little fingers plucked on them like on the strings of a harp, and both heard a weird tone play out, echoing in their minds and not their ears.
“Ugh…” Kaya shuddered, stopping. “It sounds weird! I don’t like it! Daaaaad, you are weird!” She moaned, watching the projection, looking at it like a piece of sheet music.
“...” He didn’t say anything, just fell into a stupor before quickly shaking himself out of it. He smiled, kissing his daughter’s cheeks before bringing her to bed. He was lying there with Marin, caressing and hugging Kaya as she fell into a deep sleep. When she finally nestled into Marin’s bosom, she just nodded as Alpha climbed out from their bed, returning to his office. “Little angel…” He whispered, unable to wipe off his grin.
He repeated her play, and he could immediately see the strings resonate, changing colors in a frequency that was a solution to his problem. He ‘played’ on them again and again, finding out what felt right. Not what human ears would find pleasing, not what people would consider music, but what made the room almost shake, finding resonance amongst every particle around him.
“This… is…” He mumbled as he saw that a new string that was never amongst the others was slowly coming into being. He was creating something out of nothing just by ‘playing.’ He finally realized what was happening and he immediately stopped. He knew if he continued, he would open up an Astropath. Right there. He would create one, manipulating matter in a way that he could forge his own way amongst the stars.

In the middle of the Galaxy, a giant white ship circled the supermassive black hole of Saggitarius A*. It was dormant for who knows how long, but its lights came on at that moment. The completely white interior lit up, and a low hum resonated through it. Finis slowly opened his eyes, stepping out from a pod, slowly blinking his eyelids, getting accustomed to the blinding lights.
“Creator.” He said, walking out of his empty room into the similarly empty and sterile corridor, watching the giant black hole through the windows.
“Someone tapped at the Door of Creation.” A voice said, and just that sentence alone made Finis shudder. Nobody, except the Creator, should be capable of that. Nobody except it should wield power like that. Every organic or non-organic being in the galaxy could not hold onto it responsibly.
“Do we know who? Where?” He asked, his eyes firm and his voice cold.
“Not yet. But I am watching. Listening. I will know when it comes again. Get ready, Finis. Whichever of the mortal beings managed to do it they have to be eliminated. Nothing should disturb the laws and order that I created.”
“I will be ready, Creator. Just point me the way, and I will ensure they are gone from your Galaxy.”
“I will take action myself.” The intertwined male and female voices said. “I am creating an army as we speak. You are going to lead them to their words and clean up everything. Nothing can remain of their knowledge.”
“Nothing will, my Creator.” Finis said, bowing towards nothing.
