Months went by pretty fast. The annual examination had arrived. Second year students barely slept, some even pulled all-nighter. They kept minimal contact with each other as they had no time to spare. It took roughly a month to cover all the written exams, practical tests and viva. Even after the exams had ended, the ones involved in healer training were still under pressure as its exam was approaching too.

Ariana, Nathaniel, Sean and Alexa hadn't hung out with each other like they used to for a long time. They rarely saw the other inside the university and their phone chats revolved around study only.

Alexa was frustrated with her friends as she didn't get to make fun plans with them on the last day of viva like other groups had done. On the contrary, her friends vanished god knows where during the day time and were always busy whenever she asked them to meet her.

Alexa have had enough. She called them on their group chat. They picked up one by one. "At least they picked up." She thought as she huffed in anger.

"Hey." Sean greeted first followed by Ariana and Nathaniel.

"For the last time, what is up with you boring people? Did the earth swallow you guys or are you avoiding me on purpose?" asked Alexa sharply.

"Oh yeah. About that. Family problems." said Sean in a way as if he'd made this lie on the spot.

"Same...."

"Mine too..."

Ariana and Nathaniel answered.

Alexa's mouth hung open at their lousy excuses. "I may believe Sean for one second but Nate. You talk with your mother and sister for literally two minutes. And Ri. You don't even talk to your family."

"No no. Tell me. Is this the part where I branch out for good and make new fun and honest friends?" Alexa went on a rant.

She heard Ariana sigh. "I'm really sorry. I was mentally tired after the exams. I just wanted some time to myself. "

Ariana felt bad lying to her but she couldn't tell the truth either. That they were busy because their healer training had started to become intense. Their classes had doubled and their practical trainings were being carried out in all seriousness.

All these changes had been done because a new disease had been seen in pack Ziram and Celik which had taken life of almost 2000 werewolves combined from both packs since its birth. The dangerous thing about it was that it was contagious.

Experts had already shown their concern about the situation and warned the leaders to take it seriously. As a result, Windsors were alerted by the King himself and the information was passed down to the students as well. Hence, each and every student was training diligently for the sake of their nation.

Nate had been called several times by his mother and the other leaders of Pack Ziram to take over his position, which he had been trained for, and contribute in handling the situation. However, he didn't have the heart to return to their world at all.

Ariana was worried about her pack too as Ravernia shared border with Ziram around its east and north. Borders must not have been closed as both packs depend upon each other for necessary edibles. Whatever this contagious disease was, it would soon spread over Ravernia as well.

So none of them were exactly lying while answering to Alexa.

"Okay, fine." Alexa groaned. "But you guys have to come to ACE today, okay?"

All three agreed and after an hour, they reached Ace of Clubs.

"You guys are jerks." Alexa complained.

Nate closed his eyes and shook his head in disapproval. "We're not kids anymore, Alexa. We all have our problems and we all need some alone time."

"Mehmehmehmeh." Alexa narrowed her eyes. "I'm gonna get us some drinks." She stood up and walked away.

"How's the situation over there?" Ariana asked Sean immediately. He was the only source of information for them.

"Not good. It's starting to spread over other packs as well. Dad says we haven't been able to find the accurate cure for it yet." Sean sighed as he ran his hands over his face. Both of his parents had left for Pack Ziram some days ago. They had been actively working around the infested areas as from observation, this disease had no dire effect on humans.

Sean turned to Nate. "I've seen the stats. Pack Ziram isn't doing well at all."

Nate lowered his gaze towards his twiddling thumbs. Anyone could see in his eyes that he was in a great dilemma.

"What about Ravernia?" asked Ariana.

"Ten cases were reported today." Sean answered as he glanced at Ariana, whose face had fallen upon hearing the news. As soon as they had got the news, Sean had expected Nate and Ariana to rush back to their world. He didn't know whether to feel relieved or concerned when they made no attempts to do so.

Alexa returned. "I brought us shots!" She exclaimed happily, unaware of tension in the room.

Before anyone else could reach the tray she was carrying, Nate snatched it and gulped them down one by one. Everyone looked at him in shock. He wiped his mouth at the end and hurried to washroom.

"Is he really having family problems?" asked Alexa as she watched him leave.

"Yes." Sean whispered. Alexa tore her gaze from Nate to look at him and Ariana.

"I'll go talk to him." Ariana stood up and adjusted her skirt.

"And Ari is really having family problems too?"

"Kinda."

Alexa and Sean discussed as they watched her leave as well.

Ariana stood in front of the door of male washroom. Somebody opened from inside and she left space for him to pass by.

"Uh... I don't know drunk you are, but this isn't ladies washroom." The guy informed.

"I know. I'm waiting for my friend."

The guy chuckled. "Guys don't go to washroom in groups like girls."

"Mind your own business, will you?" Ariana didn't bother to answer politely.

"Okay..." The guy shrugged his shoulders and left.

"Finally! We're slowly getting the old Ariana back. The one who wasn't afraid to call spade a spade. I'm done with this meek Ariana who weeps over that bastard." Saoirse smirked.

"Hey! He's still the King." Ariana reminded.

"He's a gardener of his silly little garden. Human world has no King, baby." The wolf twitched its snout. "And Nate calls him bastard all the time anyway. It's a sweet nickname that we've given to our King. Alexander, the great. Xavier, the bastard. You see how that goes?"

Ariana chuckled inwardly. "By the way wolfie, I'm not going to be that old clueless Ariana anymore who calls spade a spade and then gets stabbed by the spade. I'll make use of my mind."

"Oh my human, please don't be that character who thinks that she is the mastermind, but in reality is a dunderhead."

"My goodness, Saoirse! Be supportive for once." Ariana snapped.

"Is my puny human triggered? Don't be. I wove you." Saoirse cooed in mockery.

"Fuck you-"

The door opened, revealing Nate. "Why did you follow me?" He asked in annoyace.

"Just wanted to check whether you were fine or not."

They started walking towards a silent hallway in the bar. When they reached, both of them stopped and faced each other.

"I'm not fine." Nate let out a long sigh. He leaned against the wall.

"Me neither." Ariana followed.

After a long silence, Nate spoked with uncertainty. "They need more healers."

"Yes. And they are waiting for us to pass within remaining two months of this year and serve them."

"But we have another plan."

Ariana answered after a pause. "Yes, we do."

They fell back into silence.

This time Ariana broke the ice first. "Ziram needs their Alpha."

Nate looked as if she just said what he had wanted to say. "Yeah. Mum's been calling me. Beta William too."

"What will you do now?" Ariana looked straight into his eyes.

"What shall I do?" Nate didn't break the eye-contact.

"We could save lives."

"But who would save us afterwards?"

"We have ourselves and each other." Ariana spoke with hope in her eyes.

Nate narrowed his gaze. "Are you planning to go back as a healer, Ariana?"

She didn't answer.

Nate continued. "I don't want to go back but my heart cries for my pack members. I was born to serve them. To protect them. And I feel pathetic that I'm sitting here in luxury while they are suffering."

Ariana gulped. "I know. I feel selfish too."

Nate pulled his hair in frustration. "I don't think I will be able to live with myself if I don't support my pack right now."

"You know the risk, Nate. Even if I go back as a healer, I won't have to deal with any one of them. But if you return as the Alpha, seeing them is inevitable."

"You know what? If I return as the Alpha, you're coming with me. You will be accepted in my pack. I will not suffer alone. If I go down, I'll take you with me."

Ariana chuckled. "Do you even know what you're saying? I'm talking about one thing and you diverted the topic in a strange direction."

"Well, yeah. Who will stop me if I charge forward to strangle that bastard?"

"And why will I stop you?"

"Because you're his mate."

"Mate? What mate? He's not my mate." Ariana look around in confusion.

Nate scoffed. "So you're gonna pretend that he's not your mate. That's an unhealthy defense mechanism, for your information."

"I'm just continuing what he started. That's how I'm going to live a happy life whether in this world or any other world."

"Smart." Nate reached out and tapped her brain with his index finger.

"You're so dumb." Saoirse popped.

Ariana shook her head in dismissive manner. "So. Before you imagine your whole life with me-"

Nate snorted.

"- will you even go back as the Alpha?"

Nate stayed silent.

"Thought so. We're back to square one now."

Nate's loud phone ringtone startled them. He walked a little bit away from Ariana and picked up. After listening for minutes, he hanged up. Ariana was about to ask the matter when Nate dialed another number on his phone. "Prepare the chopper.. I'm coming home."
