"Here's your pay for today, you can go enjoy your time with that little one now."
Remi quickly grabbed at the handout coins that were handout to me for today.
"Thank you, boss!"
"Hmph!"
Her boss waved her hand towards door.
'She's wishing for me to leave...'
Remi inwardly chuckled softly. She bowed my head in gratitude and grabbed onto Janet's hand.
Nom—
"Ah..."
Janet was still chewing on her lamb while staring at her. Remi exhaled a breath and went out of the stand.
It's nearing morning but she couldn't help but stand still and stare out admiring the sunrise. She slowly reached out my hand atop my eyelids.
Swoosh
The cool winds blew softly against her skin and the small strands of her black hair gently brushed off against her cheek.
The rising sun cast a rosy, orange hue across the morning sky. Golden strings of sunlight lit up the scene. The just-risen sun shone softly on the city streets and the stools that are slowly closing one by one, bringing the morning sellers out.
"Sister?"
Remi snapped out of her daze and stared down at her side. Janet was quietly staring at her as she raised her hand with empty sticks.
"Huh, it seems you're eating so well without this sister of yours~?"
She teased her, ruffling her hair. Watching her turn her head and cutely pouted at her words, she turned her head to the side.
"Phew... Sorry, it seems like we won't be able to peacefully play around the festival this year as well..."
Remi heaved a sigh regretfully. She embraced Janet into her arms tenderly. She stared blankly at her older sister who was hugging her with no reply.
Hearing no response from her, she slowly inhaled and let it out. She let her go and spoke.
"Shall we go back, Jenny?"
Janet softly nodded and tightly held her hand. Remi quietly chuckled and placed her pay with the remaining coins and attached them to her side.
Holding the basket tightly, hanging on her arm, She relaxed her tense shoulders and calmly walked to their destination.
'Our home.'
.
.
.
"We're back!"
She roughly slammed the wide doors open. Remi closed her eyes and spread her arms open expecting something would happen.
"Sister Remi–!"
High-pitched voices yelled in unison.
A rush of multiple but small footsteps came running towards the entrance. She could feel some weight against her legs and her abdomen being held tightly.
Remi chuckled which came from her shut lips as she looked around. She dramatically gasped looking at the tearful children.
"You missed your sister so much?!"
A brown-haired child glared at her angrily, her bear-like ears twitched.
"Hmph! Who would miss someone who only drags on favorites whenever they go out!"
"Haha—"
'Somehow I can feel my heart being pricked in guilt...'
Remi softly laughed at the little tsundere in front of her.

"Yes, yes~ I'm sorry!"
She couldn't help but habitually apologise to her, holding onto her leaking laughter.
"Remi..."
She hurriedly looked up from the children, separating herself from them, and walked towards the woman who called her.
"Evelyn, why are you up? Look how pale you've became..."
Remi worriedly stared at her and grabbed the baby from her arms.
Evelyn covered her mouth with her thin hand and softly laughs. Remi stared at her in pain, staring at the once striking beauty who doesn't let anyone stop her from going on her independent path now a pale, sick patient in need of help.
"Oh my! if it weren't for you and the headmaster, I wouldn't be alive until now~"
A boy held onto Evelyn's skirt tightly. He blinked his eyes in worry. You can notice the similarities in their blue hair color knowing they are somehow related.
"Mom... You should stay in bed..."
The timid boy looked up at her as he tries to gently persuade her to lead her back to the room.
"Hah... Look at you all worrying about me~ Fine, since Dylan is so worried about me, I will be going!"
She warmly stroked his head. A soft smile landed on her lips as she waved a small goodbye before she was finally brought into her room.
"...Whew..."
Remi heaved a breath of relief as she finally saw her finally within her room.
'Seriously, she only knows how to overwork herself...'
She grumbled in frustration. Evelyn such a compassionate person who doesn't know when is her limits. She turned her body back to the kids and clapped her hands.
"Okay, everyone! Gather up!"
She shouted with strong words as she wait for the children to settle down. Remi scanned and counted their number for confirmation.
One, two... four, five, six... ten, eleven... fourteen... sixteen!
After finally confirming every child was present, minus Dylan and the infants, she reached her hand towards them and rubbed each of their earlobes carefully.
Nothing.
Remi smiled, satisfied at the discovery and exhaled in relief. She could feel her hand shaking as she keep checking them every two days.
'Now, if they were to ever stop by, I'm sure none of them will be taken by those people...'
Remi rubbed her temples in frustration at the thought of 'them.'
"Sister, why do you keep checking our ears..?"
A young boy who looked to be around six years old couldn't help but raise his hand in confusion.
She chuckled at the innocent-looking child in front of her. She ruffled his hair and quietly whispered to him.
"No one is going to mess up that cute face of yours, that's for sure."
Hearing her words, his face lighten up, and habitually placed his hand on both of his sides. His shoulders were raised as if boasting.
"Of course! Who will dare to look down and think so little of this handsome Luke! Ehehehe..."
"He's at it again..."
"I bet Sister Remi is the cause of his narcissistic nature..."
Remi stared at the children who are tiredly looking at Luke. She can't help it. Sometimes you got to show each of them some love in one way or another.
She shrugged at their interaction. She felt a slight tug on her skirt. Remi looked down to see the oldest of the bunch looking at her with worried eyes.
"Remi, you shouldn't always do that to Luke..."
The girl turned her head in embarrassment as she nervously spoke. She was too cute for a fourteen-year-old.
"Don't worry about him so much, Wendy, I'm sure as he grows he will mature himself enough."
"Ugh..."
Seeing her nod, Remi quietly smiled and held the baby into her arms safely and placing within one of the cribs planning in heading towards the headmaster's office.
