Chapter 18: The Last Test

Mr. Jameson came out on the field where they were all requested to be at one in the afternoon, his hands firmly planted on his hips and a frown plastered on his face. He looked as though he might just kill someone, which is not a look you want to see directed at anyone else.

 

“Alright people! We know you’re here for a reason but there are no excuses to be late!" He yelled. 

 

The other kids said nothing looking around them. Lance noticed it was the same group of kids he was with before meaning this was not the first test he thought. 

 

The teacher knew their fate was sealed once he saw that most of them had no idea of the words that form on his lips ; it was a sign of something bad happening. 

 

"You are most likely curious what happened to half the class and why you are with the same people from your last matches?"

 

There was silence from all the pupils who knew exactly where this conversation would go.

 

"Your last match was...” The teacher trailed off and waited for the students to catch up to his train of thought. "Well one student survived..." He said.

 

Lance felt unease in those words realizing those other kids were pitted against each other. They may have been friends before they went on the field, but the outcome of today's match will be decided now.

 

"It was the idea to make sure you all stayed seperated for this reason." 

 

This whole ordeal horrified Lance to know he was going to be forced to kill people who may have been able to become his friend after this was all over. 

 

"You will not be timed, but be warned it is killed or be killed…" Mr. Jameson announced.

 

Lance could hardly stand it anymore. He wanted to escape but he couldn't bring himself to do so. All the things he had gone through, every time the teachers asked if he was ready, every time he had to say he wasn't, he couldn't let it end here.

 

He closed his eyes and clenched his teeth. The other students stood by Lance's side not saying anything.

 

"Don't just stand there! This is your final assignment and the order is to fight this instant!" Mr. Jameson commanded. "I don't need to explain anything further!" 

 

[You will not fail as you are now endowed with seraph soul] 

 

"But..." Lance whispered. 

 

[You have no choice you must kill or be killed] 

 

“Understood…” He said under his breathe. 

 

"The first time was a mere test to see if you could and a lot of you couldn't, but this time you must." Mr. Jameson stated.

 

[Bringing up health and mana bar]

Coy had horrified expression before realizing that this would be more painful than whatever it was Mr. Jameson thought it was going to be like.

 

"So I'd appreciate it if you would try your best to survive this." He laughed. 

 

[There no reason to be scared anymore Lance, you have power this time] 

 

Coy's body started to change quickly allowing his wings to burst through his skin ike they had been hidden inside it earlier. There was an explosion of power and energy, and everyone turned their attention away from Mr. Jameson to focus on Coy as much as they could. Even Lance was shocked but he kept his gaze fixated on Coy's form. 

 

He used his tremendous power, his anger and rage to go after Letty who couldn't dodge Coy fast enough to be torn apart by mere strength . Letty cried and struggled to get away but it did her no good. Coy ripped her into chest as blood sprayed everywhere.

 

She tried to scream but she couldn't. It lasted only a few seconds until it stopped and her body fell limply onto the ground. Lance winced when seeing the red stain covering the grass. His head turned towards Coy but all he could see was him. That was when Lance and Shay saw everything happen.

 

His legs felt weak like jelly as he watched Coy kill Letty and everyone was frozen. No one knew how to react. Everyone knew that if anyone dared to move, Coy would probably hunt them down and tear into them too. No one even made a noise.

 

He stood in front of the remains of the poor girl. Coy was scared too but he refused to show it. He was staring at his reflection in the puddle of blood and guts when a hand was placed upon his shoulder. He flinched and whipped his head around, looking behind him.

 

It was Lance who was looking at him with concern. His heart dropped. How did he get so fast? He didn't have to do that! Coy growled and lunged forward ready to attack Lance but Lance was too quick, darting back just in time for the claws to miss him.

 

"Coy…” Lance whispered. 

 

[You really still plan to play like a good little child here?] 

 

With no other option Shay positioned himself as he became the beast as dashed at the gargoyle boy. Lance dodged again dodging another swipe of the claws.

 

"Stop running! We're done playing games! There is ONLY ONE!"

 

Lance's body trembled and sweat dripped down his face As the creature continued to slash at the boy with its powerful claws; Lance's body took longer to heal and his wounds started to reopen causing him pain.

 

Shay got int front of Lance to knock Coy with his fangs but the gargoyle was faster and pushed Shay off. He snarled at them before attacking him. Sparks flew between the two boys as Lance blocked several blows and threw Coy off of him. They both landed hard in the ground creating a cloud of dust. Lance tried to stand but fell on his knee.

 

Pain shot through his body. He looked towards the beast. He wouldn't give up. He needed this. Shay had to stay. The will to live in these boys was strong and willing to kill others for it. Shay charged up the rest of his power preparing for his next attack. With a loud battle cry he launched himself at Coy and began to claw at his body.

 

[This is useless watching you only survive Lance]
