When Lord Xie Yang was about to step out of the room, his father stopped him. He looked at his father in confusion, wondering why he stopped him. A sword appeared in Father Yong's hand, and he handed it over to his son.

"Take this with you." He said.

"This is?" Lord Xie Yang asked as he looked at the sword covered by a black scabbard lined with golden threads of majesty.

"A gift from your mother." Father Yong said with a melancholy smile. His first wife was long gone, but he still remembered her last wishes, and one of them was handing over this sword to his son.

Lord Xie Yang knew that he lost his mother of this life when he was merely a newborn child. He had never seen her. She must have left this for him the day he was born.

"Father, thank you for giving me this present in place of my mother." Lord Xie Yang said, "I will take good care of it."

"The spiritual forest is a bit too far, so let's go get a horse for you two." Father Yong said while looking at his youngest son and his adoptive son.

"After you, father." Lord Xie Yang said.

Some moments later, once they reached the stable, Lord Xie Yang, Father Yong, and Xie Ye saw someone familiar taking care of it. It was a fat man with a potbelly and a thick figure. He had a thick mustache and squinty eyes. Grey robes adorned him. It was Steward Fang.

"Steward Fang, go and bring two horses, one for my son, Xie Yang, and the other for Shadow Guard's Leader, Xie Ye." Father Yong commanded Steward Fang.

Steward Fang stupidly blinked his eyes at his master for a brief moment, and only after a period of speechlessness did he open his mouth to say, "Master, young master has never ridden a horse before, and he has been weak almost all his life. Are you sure it would be fine to let him a ride merely days after he started recovering?"

Everyone in the manor knew that Lord Xie Yang, who was so sick that he couldn't leave his bed, miraculously recovered two days ago.

Steward Fang, a trusted aid of City Lord Xie Yong, was bound to know that.

"Steward Fang, you worry too much." Lord Xie Yang told him to bring the horses without worrying about anything else.

From childhood till now, his young master had never ridden a pony as his body was so fragile that it was bound to break if he sat on one and commanded it, much less a horse, so why would he need one now?

Was he suddenly so healthy that he even gained enlightenment and learned how to ride a horse?

However, how could a person who had one step in his grave become better than an average person overnight and learn how to ride a horse?!

He found it too inconceivable!

"I will do as young master say."

Still, he still went on to do as Father Yong and young master Xie Yang wanted him to do as he was just a steward who didn't dare oppose the two.

"Young Master, Leader Ye, I've brought the horse." He said after bringing the finest horses from the stable for Lord Xie Yang and Leader Xie Ye.

Xie Ye was fine with the one he got, but Lord Xie Yang glanced at his horse, noticed its unimpressive demeanor, and looked away in disappointment. As he did so, his eyes landed on a masterpiece within the stable. It was a horse with the demeanor of a king among horses, and he considered it as barely worthy of being his steed.

Steward Fang noticed his gaze and immediately asked in a worried tone, "Young master, are you interested in that horse?"

Lord Xie Yang nodded and said, "Steward Fang, I will have to trouble you to take this back and bring me that one."

"Son, which one are you talking about?" Father Yong, now interested in their talk, asked.

"That one." Lord Xie Yang replied while pointing at the only horse sticking out of the rest of the crowd. It had red eyes and was as black as charcoal. It carried that imperial demeanor that made others horses, no matter how great, feel lowly of themselves in his presence. Such a horse was suitable to be ridden by him.

When they realized he wanted the Unruly as his steed, both Father Yong and Steward Fang felt troubled over his request.

"Young master, this black horse not only looks fierce and intimidating but is equally very unruly. It has never let anyone except for master to ride it. Till today, no one has managed to subdue it completely, nor has it lowered its head for anyone. Please listen to this servant's words this once and not try to bother yourself with a shameless thing like this animal." Steward Fang pleaded to his young master to choose another horse.

"Son, Steward Fang is speaking the truth. We even named it Unruly because of its behavior. You're better off with another one." Father Yong added amiably.

Lord Xie Yang was not one to step back in the face of a mere beast, and he said, "There's a first for everything." No one in the past had managed to subdue it, but it didn't mean that he, who had an army of ten thousand beasts, would fail to do it.

"You're too stubborn." Father Yong huffed.

Steward Fang: 'He takes after you, master.'

Leader Xie Ye: 'Like father like son.'

They didn't dare to voice their thoughts and thus evaded a punishment.

"Steward Fang, don't hesitate and bring it here." Lord Xie Yang said, "No one will hold you responsible even if something happens to me."

"This servant will do as you wish, young master."

Steward Fang went back to the stable, fixed a black saddle on the black horse, and brought it out of the stable and towards his young master.

"Young master, please be careful." Steward Fang said with a worried face.

"Don't worry; I got this." Lord Xie Yang said before he turned his face and glared at the unruly black horse fiercely.

The black horse also glared at the white-skinned handsome man, and seeing that he looked ridiculously weak and pampered, it swung its tail. Because it judged the book by its cover, it neighed in disdain and looked away from Lord Xie Yang, telling everyone that it didn't put this young master in his eyes.

"Yap!"

With a shout, Lord Xie Yang jumped and sat down on the back of the horse against its will.

The black horse didn't take well to his provocation.

Neigh, neigh!

It wasn't willing to let a weakling ride it, so it neighed loudly and raised its front two legs in an attempt to make Lord Xie Yang fall off its back.

"It won't be that easy to get rid of me."

Just as it looked like Lord Xie Yang would fall off its back, he grabbed the reign with both his hands and tightened his legs around its side to not only stabilize himself but also keep himself affixed to its back.

"Young master, if you can't hang in there, please tell us so that we can help you in time." Steward Fang shouted as he watched the fierce display between his young master and the unruly beast.

"Son, it looks like you're having a hard time. Do you want to call it quits?" Father Yong asked worriedly.

"I haven't even started taming it!" Lord Xie Yang exclaimed confidently.

He turned his attention to the obnoxious black horse that lived off of his family but refused to serve them and threateningly said, "The good horse gets a carrot, and the bad horse gets beaten by a stick. Stop making a ruckus. If you don't stop, you'll have no one but yourself to blame for the things that I would do to you!" Lord Xie Yang's threatened the black horse.

Instead of feeling scared, the black horse became more enraged, and its movement became even fiercer.

"Neigh, neigh!"

It pranced around in a circle while shaking its body violently in hopes of viciously throwing him off of him.

"You asked for it." Lord Xie Yang's expression turned merciless.

While still grabbing the reign with one hand, he raised the other and executed an offensive spiritual technique without chanting or forming hand signs. Spiritual energy changed out of his elixir field and engulfed his raised hand.

The onlookers, Xie Ye and Father Yong, could see a stream of blue coating his hand, hardening around it. Father Yong blinked his eyes and even went as far as to rub them, but the scene before him didn't change even the slightest. He had no choice but to admit that his son, who just became a cultivator, had used a spiritual technique!

Simply unbelievable!

Steward Fang had his eyes closed as he prayed that nothing would happen to his young master.

Thus, he failed to notice that his young master had become a cultivator and also knew how to use a spiritual technique.

Xie Ye was surprised as he realized that his young master was not only secretly a cultivator but also a very talented one for the energy control a cultivator needed to warp spiritual energy around the hand without chanting or using hand signs was astronomical.

Lord Xie Yang's entire hand changed. A thick, crystallized blue enclosed it, resulting in a significant increase in its weight and size, causing it to become a blunt but deadly weapon.

He immediately brought it down on the damned of the black horse that couldn't stop jumping around like a rabbit.

Pa!

The clear, crisp sound of Lord Xie Yang slapping the beast sounded in the surrounding areas.

With shocked expressions on their faces, the onlookers couldn't help but stare speechlessly at their young master, who raised his hand against a mere steed.

Neigh, neigh!

The black horse stopped for a brief moment before it neighed twice and ran at its highest speed.

It wanted to make him extremely dizzy and make him fall to his death!

"Every second you refuse to submit to me, I will beat you senseless!" Lord Xie Yang roared threateningly, and he brought his hand down on its head once again to prove he was being serious to the intelligent horse.

Pa!

Neigh, neigh!

Pa!

Neigh, neigh!

Pa!

Neigh, neigh!

Pa!

Neigh, n-neigh!

Pa!

Neigh!

Pa!

N-neigh!

Pa! Pa! Pa!

Each time it neighed in disagreement, Lord Xie Yang slapped it so hard that a crisp sound would echo throughout the area.

He didn't stop and only continued hitting it, again and again, each time It neighed.

In the end, though, he lost his patience and kept on mercilessly beating the daylights out of it without letting it neigh in disagreement.

The black horse saw imaginary stars circling around its head and truly felt that this young master would kill it today if it didn't lower its head!

It was a prideful animal, but what was its pride compared to dying a dog's death, compared to letting its young master beat it to death for its unruly behavior?! Nothing!!

It not only feared such a death, but it also felt that it wasn't worth dying here.

The black horse came to a sudden halt and kneeled, indicating that it was willing to be a steed for him!

Pa! Pa! Pa!

Lord Xie Yang still landed a few more blows on it.

It felt indignant, but it didn't dare complain and only shed tears in silence.

Father Yong, Steward Fang, and Leader Xie Ye were so shocked that their mouths gaped so widely that their jaws threatened to drop to touch the ground. They were finding it hard to believe that the horse that hasn't submitted to anyone till now had lowered its head in front of Lord Xie Yang, only because he slapped it fifty times!

"Good boy!" Lord Xie Yang said as he patted his horse.

"I will call you little black from now on. If you like this name, then neigh for this young master." He added.

"Neigh!" Little Black feared that if it didn't do as he said, then he would start beating him again, so it roared loudly and clearly.

"Congratulations for obtaining the spiritual steed, young master." Steward Fang said to Lord Xe Yang.

"Thank you." Lord Xie Yang said to him.

"Son, I must admit you were impressive." Father Yong showered his son with praise.

"Father, I did nothing impressive for you to praise me to this extent." Lord Xie Yang said humbly.

"Young Master, your taming method is so excellent that it has helped me gain a better understanding of beast." Leader Xie Ye added from the side.

"I'm glad I could be of help to you, brother." Lord Xie Yang said to him.

He had some questions about the spiritual steed, so he turned to Steward Fang.

"Steward Fang, since Black is a spiritual Steed, what kind of spiritual techniques does it have?" Lord Xe Yang asked.

A spiritual steed wasn't like a normal horse as it could use the offensive, defensive and supportive technique.

"It has two abilities. The first one allows it to harden its hooves. As a result, they become strong enough to smash apart thick trees. The second one increases its speed by 50% for an hour. However, it becomes slow for half a week after using it."

"That's good enough."

A spiritual steed having one ability was already good, but as his horse had two, it meant that it was better than most steeds out there.

Lord Xie Yang turned to Leader Xie Ye said, "Brother, let's head out."

Xie Ye was looking at him in respect, which wasn't present in his eyes last time.

Lord Xie Yang realized that, and a thought popped up in his mind.

Truly, only with one ability can a person make others submit to him wholeheartedly.

Since he had showcased his capabilities, the leader of the shadow guard accepted him, not as the beloved son of his master but a mighty warrior with many means at his disposal, a force to be reckoned with, a person who could stand as his equal or even surpass him in terms of cultivation.

"Yes, young master." Xie Ye respectfully saluted him before sitting on the other horse, which was as white as snow and clad in white armor.

Riding the horses, the two left the city hidden under the clouds in merely three minutes, and then they charged toward the spiritual forest.

Father Yong returned to his private courtyard with Steward Fang in tow.

"Steward Fang, tell a rank-1 maid to go to the treasury, pick up the best accessories, and award them to my youngest son's wife." Father Yong said.

Maid in the manor had different ranks. Rank-3 being the lowest and rank-1 being the highest. Rank-3 maids did all the household chores. Rank-2 were like Hei and Bei, who served young masters and young misses. Rank-1 maids were responsible for defending the manor and safeguarding the property of the Xie household!

"Master, what good thing has young madam done to please you so much that you're being this generous?" Steward Fang asked.

"Steward Fang, she not only helped my son recover but also helped him become a cultivator!"

Father Yong's happiness knew no bounds. He was ready to start dancing in joy, but as he needed to keep his face in front of steward Fang, he didn't do it.

"My Lord, are you joking with me?" Steward Fang said, bewilderment filling his eyes.

"Have I ever joked about anything related to my youngest?"

"Never."

"So why would I do that now?"

"Does that mean that young master, who was sickly and on his deathbed three days ago, not only recovered two days ago but also became a cultivator?"

"En."

"T-This news is worthy of a celebration!"

He asked whether he should go and prepare for a banquet, and Father Yong shook his head in declination.

"Leave it up to him."

Father Yong wanted his youngest to tell the world with his own actions that he was not a sick dog but a mighty dragon that had only taken 18 years to awaken!

Steward Fang nodded his head and said, "O understand, master."
