CHAPTER 15
I spent a couple of hours assisting the dwarves where I could. My talents centered on cooking and butt kicking, so I wasn’t much help in the grand scheme of things. I carried some of the heavy stuff and lifted dwarves up to get to hard to reach spaces. Eventually, I was getting in the way more than I was helping.
“Chad! I got you something!” Koshiro exclaimed as she jogged down the street. She waved a mysterious piece of paper in the air about her head. Her different color eyes sparkled in the radiant sunlight and her giant bosom bounced up and down most agreeably.
“Hey, where’ve you been?”
She smiled widely and handed me the small piece of paper. I raised a brow as I took the paper in my index finger and thumb.
Stonerock Dungeon License
Chad Stone
S-Rank Barbarian
License Duration: Lifetime
Daily Run Count: Unlimited
High Priority Adventurer–No Wait times
Loot Tax–Zero percent
Non Transferrable
“What’s this?” I asked, even though what it was was spelled out clearly.
“It’s a dungeon license, silly!”
“How and why did I get this?”
“I can’t take all the credit for this even though I would like to. The mayor has given this to you as a gift.”
“A gift? I told him I just wanted the restaurant rebuilt.”
“That’s what I said, but he was insistent that you be given this. So there you go. It is one hell of a gift. A lifetime license on its own is really expensive, however, you got three other perks as well. This has got to be the best license that I’ve ever seen. All the other adventurers are going to be so, so jealous.”
“Let me see that thing,” Betty held out her hand, startling me in the process.
I handed her the license, and she pulled out some reading glasses and put them on her worn face. The size of her eyes appeared to double because of the strength of the lenses.
“This is crazy. I’ve never seen a license with these many perks. No loot tax? That’s unbelievable.”
“It wasn’t necessary, but I appreciate the license. However, it’s not like I’m going to use it all that much… if any.”

Koshiro slapped me on the arm. “You are so going to use it. You would be a crazy person not to. You’re S-ranked for the sake of the Nine. You can make tons of credits and loot all kinds of gear whenever you want. You’ll be able to do dungeon carries as well.”
I wondered if that meant the same thing I thought it meant. “You mean take lower ranked adventurers through the dungeon, giving them the loot, essence, and credits that they wouldn’t be strong enough to get otherwise?”
“Exactly! You can charge a lot of credits to do that. Adventurers will pay it too. With your strength, you’ll be able to do the night dungeon raids.”
“Huh?”
“Remember, I told you that the dungeon is always changing and it is much more difficult at night—more difficulty means more essence, more credits, and better gear. Night adventuring at Stonerock is only doable by a small percentage of adventurers. It is rarely finished. The raiders have to turn back most of the time before they get to the boss. Stonerock is a B-rank dungeon during the day and an A-rank dungeon at night. On full moons, the dungeon is upper level A-Rank. No one in my lifetime has ever attempted the dungeon on a full moon and lived to tell about it,” Koshiro replied.
“Is the dungeon ever S-rank?”
Betty shook her head. “Stonerock has never been S-rank. I don’t know where you can find a S-rank dungeon anywhere in the country. I mean, I’m sure there is one somewhere in the world, but I’ve yet to hear about it. That’s something to ask at the Adventurer’s Guild in Falcor.”
“Falcor?” I asked.
“That’s the largest city in the region. It is a long way from here. It would take several days to get there depending on the mode of transportation,” Koshiro interjected.
I nodded. “I see.”
“I can take you someday if you want. We’ll have a good time. You just say the word.”
I held up my hand in mild protest. “I’m good. My arrival here yesterday has already blown my mind. I’m not ready to go to a big city and blow it completely.”
“That’s good thinking, Chad,” Betty confirmed.
“I’ve got a great idea!” Koshiro exclaimed, jumping up and down, “Why don’t I take you to see Stonerock right now? We have nothing else to do.”
“Well, I’m helping the dwarves today, maybe another time,” I stammered.
Betty swatted her hand in the air. “Psh, sweetie, the dwarves don’t need your help. They have this covered. Why don’t you go with Koshiro and check out the dungeon? Stonerock is a huge benefactor of this town. Without that dungeon, this town would struggle. I know you aren’t interested in fighting or adventuring, but you really need to take this opportunity and run with it. You can make a lot of money at your rank. I still want you as my cook, don’t get me wrong, but you’d be crazy not to entertain the idea, at least. Hell, with this license, you could do a run today when you get there.”
I felt like I had one of those Fast Passes at Disney World that you had to pay extra for. With a Fast Pass, you’re able to skip the long lines and hop on a ride immediately. “You’re right. I need to check it out. I’m up for some sightseeing, anyway. Would you like to go with us?”
I heard a grunt from Koshiro.
“No honey. Thanks for the invitation, but I need to be here at the restaurant. Anyway, from the sound of that grunt, I’m guessing Koshiro wants the alone time with you.”
I gulped and my face reddened a bit. Koshiro was great, but she made me a little uncomfortable at times. She was a little too possessive of me. It was even more odd because we only met the day before. However, Koshiro was just too fucking hot. I mean, she was divinely hot, if that even made sense.
Shouldn’t I be happy that such a gorgeous girl was infatuated with me?
