Chapter 84: CHAPTER 84: GUILT AND HATE

Ziphoteninx, Kironinx, Rafiz, Aries and Dark Kurumi surround Kairi, who was calmly looking at them one by one. It felt like he was harmless but only they knew how dangerous he had become. To think that Revioryx could control his body from afar has made them feel fear and worry for his life.

 

"Kairi, you must fight him! Do not let him control your mind!" Ziphoteninx shouted at him.

 

Kairi's red eyes went to him. The eyes weren't showing any emotion. He also looks like he was assessing their movement. It was those intense eyes that made them feel so much pressure.

 

"Kairi, please! Wake up!" Aries pleaded with him. 

 

She doesn't want this to happen to him.

 

"Please fight Revioryx control!"

 

Kairi stares at her next. She only saw a shadow flash closer to her before she gasped at his right hand attacking her chest where the heart was. However, the attack fails when Rafiz and Dark Kurumi appear to stop him. They grabbed his shoulders and went to smash him to the floor.

 

They were astonished when in a blink of their eyes, Kairi, who was moved down from their push, flipped his body upside down. While at it, both hands grab their hands to him and flip their body before slamming them both to the floor. His two feet used their bodies as leverage to jump at Aries and attack her again.

 

"Kairi! Stop!" Ziphoteninx swaps his hand at him but Kairi disappears like smoke.

 

He appears again on top of Ziphoteninx and kicks Ziphoteninx back. His leg attack was stopped by Kironinx who bit it and then swung him to the wall of the other side. 

 

Kairi flips himself in the air and lands on the wall before he pushes his legs to it and attacks the two of them again. Rafiz and Dark Kurumi got up and went to fight him once more. They were trying to trap him or hold him to the floor but failed again and again. 

 

Aries watched them fighting him. They don't want to hurt Kairi but that allows the latter to beat them up. And she flinched every time Kairi hit a part of their body which let out a sound of breaking bones.

 

Aries would never have thought Kairi's fighting skill was so good and better than Rafiz and the others combined. It was like when he was fighting, he was also searching for their weaknesses.

 

"Could it be he still has his awareness that he was fighting someone? Kairi, do you even see who you are fighting with?" Aries asked silently.

 

She wants to help him and slowly back away a bit far from them. She needs to use her power at the time Kairi loses his focus. Even for just a moment was enough. So, she stares at him.

 

"Aries seems like she wants to enter his mind. Ziphoteninx, we need to help her! She might be the only one who could reach him now!" Kironinx telepathy him.

 

Ziphoteninx nodded. His mouth gathered light energy.

 

"Kairi, this will hurt a bit but I know you'll survive. Sorry." 

 

Then, he let go of a light beam toward Kairi. Kairi couldn't escape the attack in time and smashed against a wall behind his back. He vomited some blood before he fell to the floor. He was struggling to get up again with his battered body.

 

"Rafiz, Draco, hold him now! Aries, we'll help you!" Kironinx ordered them at once.

 

Aries realised their intention and immediately summoned her stellar spirit beast. It was a fairy with a crown on her head. Her spirit beast who knew her intention flew to Kairi's head and entered his mind. 

 

Aries watch inside through the fairy eyes. Beside her was Ziphoteninx and Kironinx's spiritual form flying alongside her. They were moving inside a dark tunnel that was covered in red lights. They can feel something sinister at the end of the tunnel.

 

When they reached the end, they gasped after they saw a huge space with red and black waves like the sea covering their surroundings. The waves were violent and lightning could be seen frequently striking everywhere.

 

"This is Kairi's mind space?" She asked Ziphoteninx and Kironinx in shock.

 

The two had become serious when they saw this place.

 

"His mind space always stays bright and warm. Not chaos like this before." Ziphoteninx replied to her.

 

"We need to find his conscious spiritual form. It must have been held or trapped somewhere in this place." Kironinx told them.

 

Both nodded and hurriedly flew from one area to another. Aries was startled when a lightning bolt struck close to her side. The loud sound made her ears ring. Ziphoteninx flew to her and one of his wings stretched to protect her.

 

"The lightning bolt has another meaning in this mind space. Do you know what it is?" He asked her while bringing her through another area.

 

"Grief, sadness, anger, anguish…? Are you telling me it could be one of them?"

 

"No, it's hate."

 

Aries was stunned. "Revioryx?"

 

"Maybe. But, I think Kairi hates himself more."

 

"Wh, Why?" 

 

"When he lost his power, the guilt might have eaten him slowly and it formed silent hate toward himself. He might not realise it either. Aries, I hope you are prepared. The Kairi you might see here might be someone you have never met before." Ziphoteninx warned her.

 

Aries went silent before she slowly nodded. "I understand."

 

"Good."

 

"I found him!" Kironinx shouted to them while he was staring at something below him.

 

Aries and Ziphoteninx went near him. Their eyes widened at a big tornado and they were on top of it.

 

"Kairi is in there?!" She gasped in worry.

 

"Yes, I can sense him down there but…" Kironinx frowned.

 

"Revioryx auras in the tornado are trapping him. Kironinx, we need to dissolve it."

 

Kironinx nodded. His body slowly glows in bright light. The pattern in his body was growing along with his body. Ziphoteninx was doing the same. When their body reaches its true form, they summon a shield to protect Aries in it. 

 

Then they thrust their claws at the tornado. The tornado was hard like a shell and they used their power and claws to destroy it.

 

Aries could see the tornado slowly dissolve but a cold and horror scream sound from within the tornado. Such a sound made Aries's whole body shudder in fear. Then, she saw the body of someone inside the tornado. That person was shrouded in dark gloomy shadows while hiding himself within his embrace like a baby in a mother's womb.

 

Aries turned her head toward Ziphoteninx and Kironinx. They were busy eliminating the tornado. She was in a dilemma. Should she go to that person whose face she couldn't see?

 

After all, who knows if it was something else and not Kairi. So, she decided to wait first and see. Her decision was correct. A moment later after the tornado dissolves, the person she saw looked like a man opening up the shadows around him. The shadows then turn into three pairs of wings behind his back.

 

Aries gasped after looking at his face. It was all black with bloody red vertical eyes. He looked at them before he screamed in anger. His wings flap fast and a new form of tornado appears and was released at them.

 

"Aries, hold onto me!" Kironinx grabs her from behind and flies to avoid the attacks.

 

Ziphoteninx once again gathered the light beam in his mouth and fired it at the black man. The latter used his wings to protect his body. While at that, he summoned three black holes around him. From within, many dark creatures appear with wings and fly to attack them.

 

Kironinx and Ziphoteninx snarled and annihilated them one by one. Aries went pale after looking at the creatures. She saw the black man aim his hands at them and released a black beam toward them.

 

Kironinx and Ziphoteninx avoided it fast. They couldn't release their attack on the black man when the creatures were attacking and guarding him one after the other.

 

"What should I do?! I can't just watch this!" Aries thought.

 

She felt she was a burden to Ziphoteninx and Kironinx. Why did she even come here for?

 

Her eyes tear up. "But I want to save him… Kairi, is it you? Are you the black man?"

 

She stares at him. 

 

"If you are him, please recognise us. We are here to save you! Kairi… I love you! So, please… Wake up!" She used her mind power to reach the black man.

 

But when her power touched the other mind, she was shocked by the electrocution. She grits her teeth hard while holding onto her painful scream.

 

"Kairi… Kairi… We… We are… Here…" 

 

A few red liquids drip from her lips while she stares at the black man with a determination to reach his mind. Her power increases along with her desires. Like a thread, it slowly enters the black man's mind. She gasped when she touched something soft with hardness inside.

 

Instantly, everything around her turned white. She appears to be alone in this white space with nothing to indicate her direction. Then, she was stunned to see herself in her human form with a beautiful white dress. The blood that dripped out of her lips also was gone. But her feet have no shoes and they touch the soft texture of the floor.

 

"Kairi?" She called softly.

 

Quiet. No one seems to answer her. So, she tried calling again before she started walking in one direction. She also realised when she walked, the floor would give a ripple like water.

 

"Kairi?"

 

"Kairi, where are you?"

 

Still silence. She felt heartbroken to be ignored but calmed herself before she lost it. She knew she couldn't give up yet.

 

"Kairi, do you know who I am…?"

 

"I am Aries. I've come to get you."

 

When she said her name, another ripple could be seen from below her foot but there was nothing to see other than white. Such a small ripple makes her heart feel a little relief. She knew he heard her.

But, how can she call him to her? Then, she suddenly thought of something. She hopes it works.

 

"Do you remember how we met, Kairi?"

 

When she asked that question, she slowly sat down and stared straight. She doesn't feel any fear of being alone anymore because she had him here with her. This was after all his mind space and she felt safe here.

 

"I remember it, you know." She chuckled.

 

"Not because I have the power to record them but I always thought you looked funny at that time. I will always remember it because that was the funniest memory I have of our first meeting." She started to tell her story.

 

"With your entire body covered in leaves and mud, clothes in damage here and there, I thought you were just a poor teenager who has no home. The reason I would take a second look was because…" She stopped and blushed a little.

 

"You look really handsome…"

 

A ripple appeared in front of her.

 

"Oh, don't you look smug, huh? What if you have mud all over your face? I might not look at you." 

 

She could feel what he wanted to express little by little.

 

"You know, there was another man there too. He looked more handsome than you… Ah, hey!"

 

The ripple splashed her with some water that made her glare at it. Then, she laughed while wiping the water away. She was surprised that the water evaporated like she wasn't splashed by it at all.

 

"Kairi, are you jealous?" She asked him with a smile on her lips.

 

The ripple stops. She felt like he was sulking somewhere. It made her laugh at him. She also thinks Kairi was like a child making a tantrum right now.

 

"But, Kairi. That man died already, killed by Dark Ries' underlings before I met you. He was one of the upper echelon sons and his rude words had him killed by them. So, no one felt sorry for him…"

 

The ripple came again. He was telling her that he was listening.

 

"I wonder if you saw my memories before I got kidnapped? You know I am an adventurous girl. I love to travel a lot and help people in need. Well, I sort of forgot to look for the leader of Bright Star though, because I thought they were impossible to find. As for how I got kidnapped, well, I mistakenly thought they were travelling people who were going in the direction I wanted…"

 

She talked about it awkwardly.

 

"When I looked inside the carriage, I finally realised what they're doing. I didn't try to escape because I wanted to know where they were going and who was the mastermind behind it. So, I followed along when they tied me up. It was a long journey, you know. I had to hold my hunger and needed to go to the toilet. It feels so awful!"

 

The ripple got near her and patted her with a small round hand on her knee. It shows his understanding of her situation at that time.

 

"But, I think it was fate. Fate to meet you, Kairi. The first time I saw you, I felt you had the power of hope. And you know what happens after that. I break into your memories and look at them. I was really surprised to know you were the leader we were looking for. And at that time, I asked a question that I still feel a little guilty until now… Do you remember it?"

 

The ripple appears once before it appears in a row. It was like he was mumbling to himself in confusion and looked like he forgot it.

After you awakened and said how beautiful I am, I finally realised what kind of feelings I had for you. Geez, Kairi. You are a sweet talker, aren't you?"

 

The ripple felt like he was shrugging.

 

"Tsk! I wonder how many girls you have attracted when you said those words. It makes me feel very jealous, you know… Sigh… Thinking about it now. Kairi, why do you choose me? What do you even like about me?"

 

The ripple stopped moving like he was dumbfounded. She guesses the question surprised him. Her eyes slowly teared up. 

 

"I could have died in the fight with the Deorc Star. And maybe later… So, why choose me? Once before, I have decided to stay quiet about my feelings and yet you break the wall that keeps it in. I, I don't know what to do anymore… You said you love me but you are dying. And now, you even got control by Revioryx? Do you even know what you have done to me?! I feel so much suffering inside!"

 

She cried out and put her palms on her face with tears dripping down. She didn't see the ripple trembling vigorously. It has even reached everywhere around her.

 

"Do you blame my feelings for you, Aries?" A voice sounded and it startled her.

 

She quickly looked up but before she could see the owner of the voice, she felt her eyes were closed by a palm and soft kisses fell on her lips. It was moving gently.

 

"I won't let you go. You promised to be with me. And you can't take back what you said to me either. Or I would be really angry." 

 

"Kairi…?" She called with uncertainty.

 

"It's me."

 

She wanted to see him and move to take the palm on her eyes but he didn't let her.

 

"Erm, I look a little bit different. You might dislike it." He told her nervously.

 

She could hear something flapping like the sound of wings and looked strange in his direction. Her tears stopped after he appeared.

 

"Kairi, I was lying just now."

 

"Which? The one you blame for making you love me or because I made you suffer for loving me?" His voice sounded so sad.

 

Aries didn't seem to look guilty. Instead, she smiled. 

 

"All of them!"

 

"Huh? I don't understand…" 

 

He was confused now.

 

"Kairi, I am not irresponsible after confessing to you or blaming you for it. Tell me, are you going to appear if I didn't fake it?"

 

He went silent for a moment. "Maybe."

 

Aries harrumphed and she made him flinch. She folded her hand and even though she couldn't see him, her body language told him that she was angry with him.

 

"Kairi, Ziphoteninx has told me that you feel guilty for allowing Revioryx to take your power. Yes, it was your fault and I will not say it wasn't."

 

Kairi narrowed his eyes at her even though she couldn't see it. She was truly straightforward, which he liked a lot in her character. Because it also means she truly does understand him.

 

"But?" He waited for her to continue.

 

"No but! It's in the past already. Currently, what you need to do is to let it go. Let the guilt and the hate go, Kairi. Or change it to get your revenge on Revioryx."

 

"Why does it sound to me like you are encouraging me to do something bad?"

 

Aries grins. "But you like it that way? Aren't you becoming mischievous after three years? You have changed Kairi. You're not naive, foolish or a coward anymore."

 

"Foolish?! I am not!" He was offended.

 

"Don't deny it. I have been watching you and I will always do that until the end." Her words turn softer.

 

But…

 

"Moreover, I am older than you by a year! So, listen to me!" And she changed it to scolding him next.

 

Kairi rolled his eyes at her. It's not just him who changes personalities every second. She was too.

 

"Yes, madam. As you wish." 

 

Then, he smirks.

 

"You're not really going to leave me, right?"

 

"No, Kairi. I have accepted your marriage proposal. Just like you said, I too won't let you go. Now, let me see you. You have been hiding yourself from me for a long time. And I don't care how you look right now. I love the one inside and not the outside or your appearance."

 

"Wait, didn't you say you like my handsome face before?"

 

"Okay, I lie. I like both but more about your character. So, let me see you. I promise I won't run or change my mind. I would still love you even if you look like a toad or a frog."

 

Kairi chuckled at her comparison. He believes her but he thinks she might change her mind after seeing him. Yet, he slowly moves his palm away. After all, he wanted to see her enchanted eyes, gazing at him with all of her attention too.

 

They both love each other with everything they have and that's what made him very happy. The hate that has been gathering inside vanishes from his heart along with his guilt toward her, his friends and everyone in the world.
