Chapter Eight- Leaving For Adventure

(This is so exciting) a thrilled Elsie thought to herself, besides jack and her mother, this was her third human encounter. And compared to jack, this old Granny was keen to talk to her, how could she not be quivering in excitement?

“Granny, just what does the overworld look like?” Elsie asked. She was intensively listening to every word the granny had spoken so far.

The old granny smiled and continued.

“Well, where I come from, the sky is crystal blue, and the sun is always shining down while the children happily play together carefree.” The old granny carried on, explaining the various parts of the human world, enthralling Elsie. It was as if she listening to Mozart’s Jupiter symphony, the various descriptions coiling around her, what was this feeling, Happy? Sad? No, it could not be described.

Just how dull of life must the princess have lived to be so excited about the common day-to-day things that humans participated in, such mundane things, yet these boring exercises felt like a breath of fresh air to Elsie.

In the corner, listening to their conversation… well listening to the old granny tell her stories, Jack was astounded once again, this granny truly was from the human world, and her descriptions were so vivid as if she had experienced what she was telling so ever recently. Had she perhaps come to this place recently? Jack’s eyes shined brighter.

The conversations carried on throughout the night, even though the underworld had no sun, it still had a day-and-night system, how was this possible? Many summarised it to be from the massive crystallites hanging from the ceiling of the overworld, for twelve hours of the day they would shine, and for the remaining twelve, they would turn off, like a light bulb. This had been happening for thousands of years, and so the underworld used it as a day and night cycle, inspired by the overworld.

The following morning, jack awoke.

(how long have I been asleep) he yawned, wiping the sand-like particles off his eyes, he stretched his arms and got up. However, he became stunned at his next discovery.

“And so, when I was young, I would follow this boy everywhere.” the sound of the old granny rang in his ears, aswell as the laughter from both her and Elsie.

(don’t tell me) jack couldn’t believe it, had these two been up all night?? Just how interesting was their conversation? Jack had eventually fallen asleep with boredom after a few hours, yet Elsie still had the shining glimmer in her eyes… such passion.

“Oh jack, you are awake, hurry and get changed we are leaving soon, your injuries are pretty much healed aren’t they?” Elsie finally got up and moved to the dining table and poured some tea for the three of them.

They were leaving? Ah of course they couldn’t trouble this old woman any-“ (wait we’re leaving??) Jack was stunned, he still had many questions for the old granny…

“Granny-“ however just as he was about to speak the old woman stood up and smiled. “Young younglings are always free to come back here, I’m not going anywhere anyways. Just count this a safe place, I know you little ones must have a lot to do, otherwise…” she looked over to Elsie.” otherwise I probably wouldn’t have any time to catch my breath with all this storytelling.” She laughed and took the cup from Elsie before taking a sip and continuing. “However don’t rush yourselves, make sure to get something to eat and get changed before you leave, there is a shower if you go straight down the hallway to your left. If you don’t mind me. I have to go buy some ingredients for dinner tonight.” And once she said that, she got her shoes on and left through the door…

Jack was standing there stunned, had the old granny just left like that? He lamented, he had just lost his chance to ask for a way to leave this demon-filled place, however, after thinking over her words for a while, his mood improved.

(you are always free to come back here, I’m not going anywhere.) a smile appeared on his face, this old granny was truly a nice person.

While he was thinking to himself, Elsie put her cup down and popped up. “All right well, I’m going to take a shower before we leave, you can go in one after me.” She said as she un bobbled her hair and let it flow smoothly onto her shoulder and back. (How beautiful,) jack thought to himself, he hadn’t really paid attention to it before, but Elsie was truly an outstanding beauty, she made his heart beat fast with her stunning looks. however… “Also.” Elsie turned to face him. “Don’t try to peep.” Such cold eyes, how could someone be so cheerful and then turn so devilish? However, It was to be expected, she was part vampire. They tended to have such a cruel and cold nature.

“Anyways, I won’t be long.” The coldness in her eyes dissipated and it became giddy again. Jack sighed, how was it possible to travel around with this girl? What kind of torture was he about to bring himself, he depressingly took a sip of the tea Elsie had poured him.

“Oh, this is actually good.”

Shortly later, Elsie came out of the shower in a new set of clothes that the granny had brought for her, she still wet hair sticking to her face, however one couldn’t be anything but memorized, with her wet hair, it darkened turning into a deadly poison-like red, just looking at it made one feel dizzy. “Well hurry and go, there’s a change of clothes for you, and please use them, the ones you have on now make you smell.”

Crack

Just how embarrassed was jack at this moment? For such a beauty to call him smelly? His confidence had been broken, he depressingly walked towards the shower all the while hearing Elsie’s devilish giggles.

With such hard-hitting insults, Elsie truly knew how to mess around.

…..

..

“All right, are we ready to go?” Elsie said after finishing her hair, Jack who had just taken a shower and had gotten changed nodded, they had left a note for the old granny promising to come back, and with that done, they left her house, in search of their next adventure.

“So many things to do, where should go next?” Elsie asked, although this was entirely hers in the future, she hadn’t the slightest clue where anything lay, and although she was extremely intelligent but never showed it, she had never been taught about all these commoner areas, just that her first would rule it all. However, she disliked those teachings, she yearned to know every part, and she wanted to experience the things that all the other kids her age experienced.

“Well, how about we leave the city first, the further away we are from here, the better, it will also allow us some time to explore. And help me to find a way home.” His plan couldn’t be argued with. , and so they decided that this was the best option.

However, it was clear that there would be heavy security around the gates leading in and out of the city, just how would they escape?
