Chapter 50: CHAPTER 50 LOTUS WHOMALT

Massive beasts half lion half eagle, these are the griffins. Normally, they are lone predators who hunt for themselves. It is abnormal for a group of griffins like the one before me. I know this much as one of the few itineraries I had when I was training with Drouot back in the tower and in his workshop was to read books about the ecology of the Grand Magic Zone.

I calmly assess my situation. With the power level of the bald giant, it is enough for him to deal with that many griffins. The double-headed griffin however is a different matter. Judging through my Ki sensing, I sense an enormous life force in that unique griffin.

For now, I will just wait and see.

Lotus Whomalt is a young talent on the rise among the many Magic Warriors of the Diamond Kingdom. It is his fortune that the army officials are enlisting him to the Kingdom’s current adjutant general’s forces, the Dustin Brigade.

The bald giant, Terrance Dustin is a war veteran of great exploits and skills. Lotus idolizes this man for his leadership and faithfulness to the kingdom, he is a patriot.

With the blood of giants flowing in his veins, Terrance possesses incredible strength and a magic attribute unique to his race. As Terrance is of a hybrid race, he possesses two magic attributes namely Earth Magic and Body Magic.

That is why Lotus is confident that even the flock of griffins rushing at them is no match for their combined might.

With a roar, Terrance invokes his signature magic, “Body Strengthening Magic: Giant’s Vessel.” At his command, his flesh starts bulging as if countless tumors are escaping from his pores. Within several seconds, the two meters tall mortal becomes a giant god whose body reaches the sky.

Terrance raises his palm, and with one mighty slap, the atmosphere starts fluctuating in an erratic matter.

Lotus watches in awe as a single slap from Terrance causes the flock of griffins to scatter. The wind pressure that Terrance is creating with his every single movement is enormous. In turn, this causes the hood covering his face to come undone.

No matter how strong the slap, however, it didn’t do an iota to intimidate the double-headed griffin. Instead, it manages to provoke it. With a powerful cry, the double-headed griffin sonorously cries with a great amount of mana.

Lotus who is the Dustin Brigade’s acting second-in-command raises his voice to his fellow Diamond Mages. “Secure him!” He tells the one closest to him, instructing the mage to take a hold of their dark-haired captive.

“Kiiiiiiiieee~”

Before even Lotus spits his second command, the griffin’s cry reaches to them in a flurry. “Strengthen your mana skin!” He screams to his subordinates but it was too late. The double-headed griffin’s strange cry was actually a sound-based attack.

Closing his ears with his palms, and being midway on reinforcing his mana skin, Lotus was able to barely weather the griffin’s sound attack.

The Diamond Mages are keeling in pain, most of their ears are bleeding and there are even a few heads that exploded to bits. Lotus is in disbelief.

After the double-headed griffin’s offensive, the flock of griffins starts gathering. Forming a group, the griffins drastically descend from the sky. Terrance cannot do anything as the double-headed griffin is keeping him company.

Terrance was able to ignore the sound-based attack, but not the enormous wind bullets that the double-headed griffin is throwing at him. If Terrance moves a second late and stops receiving the griffin’s wind bullets, those magic wind bullets will definitely swerve and home at his fellow Diamond Mages.

Lotus is at the precipice of despair yet he doesn’t want to give up. Even though he is already fucked up at this point, he optimistically believes in the ‘not yet’ part. He is only and truly fucked up when he’s dead. The way he sees it, he ain’t yet fucked up.

He is still a virgin. If he is going to be fucked up one day, it will be done by a woman. “MEEEN! I DON’T WANT TO DIE A VIRGIN! SO RISE UP!”

The barely hearing Diamond Mages despite the buzzing of their ears were able to hear Lotus’s bizarre and ridiculous shout.

“Fuck you, Lotus!”
“Is that how you raise morale?”
“Me neither, I don’t wanna die a virgin.”
“Idiots, even if we survive this, we have no guarantee.”
“So what? I’ll just go to the brothel.”
“Brothel my ass, you are barely an infant.”
“Whadda ya say? Wanna die?”

Lotus smiles at the rowdy bunch. This is what the Diamond Kingdom’s best has to offer. Though rude, has a foul mouth, and lack decency, the mages of the Diamond Kingdom have the most insatiable hunger when it comes to survival. No one in this continent is more desperate on surviving than a Diamond Mage!

“MEN! GATHER ON ME!” At his mighty shout, the Diamond Mages gather on Lotus. “Smoke Weakening Magic: Smoke Garden of Usurpation.” Lotus unleashes his magic from his grimoire. With an open grimoire, the user releases smoke with poisonous properties which are deadly to anyone except the user, and those the user does not wish to harm. This deadly fog of smoke disperses and permeates the battlefield.

Smoke visibly escapes Lotus’s grimoire at an increasing speed. The weakening will take effect for some time, Lotus is aware of this. Though the immediate threat that griffins possess is enormous, if they do manage to resist and endure their assault for some time, it is certain that it will be their victory. “This will be a battle of attrition! We have to endure no matter how long it will take! We will survive!”

All sorts and manners of magic fill the battlefield. Lotus’s magic is also able to impede vision, thus allowing their squad a war of attrition with a major advantage in this fog of war.

Without his notice, Lotus continues to battle unaware of the conflicting gaze set upon him.
