Chapter 10: Granting and first day of leveling

The snake looked at Dar and instantly dove back into the bushes. He sighed and this go on his way again. Systa didn't knew his aim but still talked to him.

Some small talk later did he finally understand what leveling up and surviving meant. His former self left him informations but not many. 

One could say he wanted himself to really live the life of someone else. The memories and arts were hidden within Systa while most ressources are kept by Rakna.

A bush rustled not far from Dar and he instantly did go in the run position. 

"Wait! Just identify it first!" Systa called out to Dar in his mind. Well, he could outrun a bear with level 1 and a Viper just fled from him. He shouldn't have many problems.

A head of a cat came out of the bush soon followed by a body with a black luster. It was about half a metal tall.

"Identify!"

Name:  Night Cat

Level: 8

"Ohh, you said that I could beat those under level 50, right?" Dar was still not sure about trusting that voice who called him master. Especially the thing about being reincarnated.

"Ye, that should be no problem. If you get identify to level 10 you can see their stats. I did tell you that skills can evolve, right?" The cat looked at the thing before it dumbfounded. Didn't it know that it was its prey?

Without further ado it leaped up and bit into the throat of it.  Soon it had the sweet smell of blood in its mouth, sadly not from its lunch.

The teeth it was so proud of were mixed with blood into mush in its mouth. 

Not only was the Night Cat surprised, Dar was too. He was still talking with Systa when this things suddenly charged at him. His stats may be high but there were no muscle reflexes or fighting experiences left.

His eyes just saw a schadow leap at him. The next thing was pain, not. He felt like he had some sticky and wet towel placed on his throat. t

Dar was the first to move after both parties were in freeze. He grabed the cat on its neck and looked at it with surprise. 

"Is this thing really 7 levels higher than me?" He couldn't help but ask Systa. It was kind of weird how an animal which was proud of its teeth just didn't get through his skin.

While the cat was struggeling did Systa explain some minor details to him. 

"Yes, you have to know that having stats in the fours are mostly reserved for beings above level 80. Thats why I told you, you don't have to worry."

Dar thought for a moment before nodding. It seemed like a simple explanations but the question it made was why he had such stats for a lvl 1. 

After looking in it's eyes and watching the sheer terror of the cat. He finally decided to end this. He put some strenght into his hand and with a simple sound made from it, it died.

"This somehow doesn't feel right, just kill living beings to level up?" It wasn't like he felt bad, the eyes of the cat were just affecting him too deeply.

Remorse, Pain, Hate, Sadness, Hope. The emotion which he saw in those little eyes.

"It wanted to kill you, you know?" Systa couldn't explain how she felt about that.

"Yes but only to eat me because it must. Meanwhile I killed it because I was stronger. I'm not hungry so why should I kill it?" Some may call it naive but he hit the nail on it. The  same thing made his former self angry.

Why would he make a system which needed life energy from other beings to make you stronger? Yes, exp was just a better way to say life energy.

"Master... You can still level up while training your skills. It may not give much exp but its doable." Systa couldn't deny his thought process.

A ding sound made Dar look at his window, Systa also got a spook of her life. Someone just interfered with her programming?! When both saw the additional thing on his window they got spooked.

Plainly in sight was a new skill. Granting lvl 1. Dar asked Systa immediately what it did. Systa on the other hand was quiet for some time. 

Systa was thinking to herself how this was possible. Was this really the doing of that? The outrageuos thing this skill did was insane.

"Ehm, it depends master. You could say it grants true freedom, as for what exactly it does. Use it on the cat."

Dar was still holding the warm body of the Night Cat. He gathered his thoughts around the skill he just got and was instantly drowned in information.

So that was what granting meant..but why? A light enveloped the dead animal he held before it vanished.

"May you rest in peace, your sacrifice will not be the end." Dar got through that skill a new view on all the things happening. Maybe it wasn't that bad to kill of the world was structured like that?

"Master?" Systa worried that something may happen which she couldn't influence after knowing what this skill did.

"It's ok, lets get to our next target!" With big strides, at least for an teenage boy, Dar made his way on the outer skirt of the island.

He didn't forget to identify everything he saw. A gras? A tree? Everything. He soon understood that only things which he didn't identify yet or where somewhat different from the prior identified things gave him exp.

He made this discovery becaus in his hands was the same thing struggeling like before.

It did end up like before, well, this time he did try to dodge the bite. Now it wasn't hanging on his throat, rather his arm.

A short snap made it go to the otherside like the one before it. It too was engulfed by light. Dar couldn't help but ask Systa though why they were called Night Cat. Wasn't it day?

"A name is given with sapient beings do call it like that. Most probably the one who found them just thought it was fitting." Systa made some sense there. Why was a dog called dog or a cat, cat? Because it was known to people like that.

Systa couldn't help but be aghast at all of this. Increase in 100? She knew very well what this meant with the stats like that from the beginning!

"Hmm one hundred isn't that bad, still, I would like to have Identify at lvl 10."

Dar's plan was simple, if he could know the stats of every being there wouldn't be any danger to his life anymore! Especially that bear! He had a feeling that something was amiss with it. 

He met three other animals till now but they all were below lvl 30! Something wasn't right here. 

Half a day later he finally had achieved his first step. Identify lvl 10!

He has gotten some other gains but the thing he was mostly looking forward to was the next bundle of exp he would meet!

Soon did his dream come true as a blue snake slwoly made its way towards him. He had some encounters with thwir specias so he knew that it would be better to be cautios. That venom was no joke!

He wanted to ask if its the same one as before but he was more dumbfounded about the stats.

"Was this why you meant, under level 50?" He couldn't help but hate this system which called him master now. What level 50?! Even level 100 should be doable if he did the math right? That's about 10 points per level!
