"Here, Musei," Nonō said handing Jonathan a book.
The title of book was, "The Complete Medicinal Herb: A Practical Guide to Healing". Nonō only gave him the basics because she wasn't entirely sure if Jonathan could even read advanced level medical terms.
"I can read more if I finish, right, mom?" asked Jonathan.
Nonō nodded her head contently and answered, "I noticed you don't really play with the other kids. Can I ask why?"
Jonathan knew this question would be asked one day. He had separated himself from the group for a whole week now, showing little to no interests in their activities.
He was a child during the time ninjas were waging war on one another. Methodical answers or a having a silver tongue would bring about misgivings. Rather than verbally answering, Jonathan lowered his head and pretended to be despondent. Nonō reacted exactly how Jonathan had expected. With a hug of reassurance that Jonathan wasn't in any trouble, she said what any kindhearted individual would.
"Everything will be alright."
"The kids won't hurt you. You're safe, Musei." Nonō lowered herself to Jonathan's height to give him those words of comfort. He reciprocated with a light smile before nodding.
"If you can finish that book, there are more in my office for you to read." With those words, Jonathan felt victorious.
Ever since he came to this world, he hadn't once been able to even try and harness his chakra. Assuming he even had any. If he had tried and showed himself to be a shinobi back at the hospital, he would have had too much unnecessary attention. Whilst in the Leaf Village, he had just escaped the hospital. Spending time after just learning chakra but having nowhere to sleep or food to eat didn't meet Jonathan's demands. Once he gained a place of solitude to practice without disturbance (whilst having a sense of security), he could nurture himself unperturbed.
Both Jonathan and Nonō left to the main corridors of the orphanage. The instant the children were given leisure time, Jonathan disappeared to Nonō's office. For a whole week, Jonathan was being monitored. He could tell someone from somewhere was watching him. And his intuitions were right when Nonō asked him why he'd been so distant from the others. Had he been caught trying to practice how to release chakra, his whole plans would have fallen.

But the medical-nin weren't the only one's keeping an eye on Jonathan. He was watching them as well. He knew the times throughout the day what each staff member did. Whether they woke up the children up ten minutes later or allowed them free time from chores an hour earlier, Jonathan didn't miss it. He understood their patterns clearly and would use that mental data collected now.
Gaining access to Nonō's office gave him roughly one hour every day when someone's eyes weren't on him. It was the perfect place to train.
Jonathan entered Nonō's office and shut the door behind him. He made sure no one spotted him entering. Should anyone ask of his whereabouts, Nonō would know he was here. As to what he was doing, she'd tell them he was reading to become a medical ninja. But as to what he was really doing, no one would know.
Nonō's office had no windows and, because the whole orphanage was made of wood, Jonathan could easily hear someone if they were close by. Jonathan had a contingency plan for just about everything. There was no room for mistakes to be made for him. Finding a blind spot in the room, Jonathan sat down in a corner and placed the opened book Nonō gave in front him. Should anyone enter, they would see him reading rather than practicing how to harness chakra. Eventually Jonathan would read the book but now was a crucial moment he wasn't willing to let go of.
Back on earth, Jonathan gave spirituality a chance. He learned how to meditate and fasted for long periods of time without trouble. If Jonathan chose, he could sit still in one position for a couple of hours before feeling weary. He used what he learned back on earth and what he knows of the ninja world to try and harness his chakra.
Almost ten minutes passed with Jonathan in a still position. Like a sixth sense, Jonathan began to feel something. Almost as though a rushing wave of water or a raging flame began engulfing Jonathan's core abdominal muscles. He hadn't made a single sound. Instead, he began trying to move that sensation from one end of his body to another. In the blink of an eye, Jonathan lost sense of that feeling. He then gave a slight smirk and thought to himself.
'Naruto Uzumaki, you truly were a fool in the making.'
To Jonathan, manipulating and harnessing chakra was easy. He didn't need to place something like a leaf on his head to help concentrate. Less than thirty minutes past before Jonathan already knew how to harness it effectively. It wasn't like anything he felt back on earth. Chakra to him felt like an invisible muscle that could be stretched, pulled or flexed. It was like an extension of his own body.
Jonathan would spend the next twenty minutes releasing and dispersing his chakra. He could tell he didn't have a lot of it due to how quickly he'd get tired. His training stopped the instant he heard footsteps approaching. They were faint but because Jonathan spent the last fifty minutes in complete silence, he could hear it as though they were right next to him. Jonathan picked up his book and began reading nonchalantly. A few seconds passed and the footsteps stopped. A minute later and no one came into the room. Only the door was left slightly open.
