Chapter 106: Chapter 106: Leaving Tanzaku Town

Before grabbing both dead bodies, Jonathan performed the transformation technique to disguise himself as Jirobou. He then holstered them up one at a time on one of his broad shoulders. With his free hand, he used it to hold the briefcase carrying ryō.

If Chōseki knew how to read people, he would have seen that Jonathan's drunken act wasn't completely perfect. Jonathan had only ever been drunk once in his life while he was on earth, so he wasn't great at playing off as a drunkard.

Nonetheless, Jonathan activated his hi-speed technique and traveled as fast as he could over the buildings. His hope was that he wouldn't be spotted. But if he were, it wouldn't matter too much. As long as Jonathan was disguised as someone else, he could flawlessly get away.

Without any trouble, Jonathan safely made it outside the town. He looked back and began using the sensing technique to make sure he wasn't being followed. Tanzaku Town was a place ninjas would venture to. And not just any ninja, but a mercenary ninja. If one happened to spot Jonathan, they'd either pursue him in question or leave him be since it's not their business.

That's how this world functions. The people here were no different from the people of earth.

Without anyone trailing Jonathan, he activated his hi-speed technique again and ran towards his destination. He was by no means going to walk there. Time was of the essence. And he couldn't perform the flying raijin technique because a mark had never been placed. Traveling via smoke form or the lightened boulder would also be improbable for Jonathan. When in smoke form, there was a limit to how much he could carry. And the lightened boulder technique couldn't be used on targets. Using the hidden mole technique also wouldn't work because Jonathan's arms were holding objects.

Jonathan was forced to do it the old way.

Having memorized the map, Jonathan knew which collection station he needed to surely visit. And he knew it was the right one because Jonathan easily remembered where and how two particular Akatsuki members ventured to it. With his augmented strength, carrying Gantetsu's and Chōseki's dead bodies was effortless. He could run miles with them before breaking a single sweat.

"You there, stop!" a female's voice yelled out.

Jonathan clearly heard her, but he took his running to the trees.

"I said stop!" the woman demanded. Jonathan didn't even bother looking back. He needed to get to his destination regardless of who tried to stop him right now.

A few minutes had passed and the person was still giving chase. 'No,' Jonathan thought. 'She's not following me alone.' Six shinobi were following Jonathan!

"If you don't stop, we'll use force!" a shinobi cried. Jonathan kept pushing. 'Judging by how fast I'm going, I should be able to make it in twenty minutes,' Jonathan estimated. As he finished his thoughts, he heard six shuriken flying towards him.

Each of them hit Jonathan directly in the back.

"A substitution?!" announced the kunoichi. The six of them stopped and began searching the area for Jonathan. 'Oh,' Jonathan thought inwardly. He was hidden well behind a tree. 'The way that person threw those shuriken at me was not normal. No, it was too perfect even.'

"He couldn't have gotten far," a shinobi leading the group said. "What you said earlier was true. That man was carrying two dead bodies, and he looked far too suspicious to just let go." The other five nodded as the man continued, "You three search that way. The rest, with me. Give a signal if you find him." All of them performed the teleportation movement technique and vanished.

Jonathan witnessed the whole scene with his sensing technique. And when he did, he slightly smirked at the people trying to follow him.

"Nothing to report here," the kunoichi said.

"We'll go check a bit farther out. You try and check that area," a shinobi ordered. Both he and his companion walked slightly away from the kunoichi. "It seems like that shinobi she saw earlier had something to hide. Otherwise he wouldn't have—ugh!"

"Argh!"

The kunoichi became alarmed when she heard her comrade screaming. She ran towards where they went. When she reached them, both their bodies were lying on the ground. Standing on top of them was a kid, and he was putting on one of their masks with his back turned.

The world of ninjas was not a place to wander off aimlessly. Jonathan knew this the instant he understood where he was. Those who didn't have protection or a means of defending themselves could be robbed, monitored without their knowing, killed; or, in Jonathan's case, stopped for questioning by Anbu.

Jonathan managed to successfully bring down not one but two of their Anbu members as well as take one of their tantō without anyone seeing a single thing.
