Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Jonathan vs. Anbu II

"Argh!" Kō screamed.

Jonathan held his arm dripping with blood on the ground. Kō dropped to his knees and tried to stop the bleeding with his hand, but the amount of blood pouring out was astronomical. Itachi quickly threw six shuriken aimed at Jonathan's back.

'Ninja art: shadow shuriken!'

Jonathan's tantō was still generating electricity. Instead of finishing off Kō, he turned and slammed his palm on the ground.

'Earth style: mud wall.'

A giant slab of rock erupted from the ground. All of Itachi's shuriken deflected off the slab. 'This is the advantage of having a tailed beast,' Jonathan wholeheartedly believed. And he was right. The amount of jutsu Jonathan could unleash felt like he was able to battle for hours with these Anbu. And not just any Anbu, Kakashi's own Team Ro.

Yūgao managed to circle around. Jonathan could see through her sword style technique.

'Moonlit night!'

Jonathan flew up and planted his feet on the slab's walls. He was staring down horizontally at her after her attack was avoided. Just then, lightning bolts struck through the boulder Jonathan had thrown at Kakashi earlier. Kakashi smashed through the boulder and appeared on the scene with his mask off. As Jonathan prepared a seal, Jonathan felt intense heat from behind.

'Fire style, phoenix flower shuriken!'

Jonathan quickly twisted his body and flew to the side to avoid Itachi's attack from above. When he did, Kakashi Hatake grabbed Jonathan in the air! 'Oh,' Jonathan thought.

Both of them landed on the ground with Kakashi on top. Because the lighted boulder technique reduced one's own weight, Kakashi was able to bring Jonathan down without force. He quickly grabbed Jonathan's Anbu mask he took from Yōji Aburame and ripped it right off! "Huh?!" Kakashi gasped. The face he made was one of shock.

He let go of Jonathan. Because the person he was seeing underneath the mask was Sakumo Hatake, his own father.

Earlier, Jonathan had prepared a seal. The moment he noticed Itachi was behind him and Kakashi was prepared to move without killing intent, he knew what they were aiming for: Jonathan's mask. He therefore quickly performed the transformation technique.

It's not the techniques that were powerful; it's the person who used them! That was what separated Jonathan from any and all other ninjas ever created.

"Kakashi, it's a trick!" Itachi yelled out. But it was too late. At Kakashi's slightest hesitation, Jonathan quickly clasped his hands.

'Water style: exploding water shockwave jutsu.'

A large body of water spewed from Jonathan's mouth. Waters raged in the area! It was of such high magnitudes, that even going airborne was not enough to evade it. Everyone in a large vicinity was instantly washed away by it. As the technique neared its end, Jonathan flew up using the lightened boulder technique.

'Lightning style: false darkness.'

A lightning bolt shot forth from Jonathan, impaling the waters with vigorous force.

Zap, zap, zap, zap, zap!

Electricity flowed through the waters at a high intensity. When Jonathan's combined water and lightning technique ended, he flew above the waters and knelt down. Slowly, the water began to drain. Jonathan finally stood up on the ground and saw that Yūgao, Kakashi and Kō were on the ground. 'Because I released too much chakra on that attack, I wasn't able to control it as much as I'd hoped.' Jonathan said with a blank face as he walked towards Kō's dead body. He took off Kō's Anbu mask and placed it on his face before releasing the transformation technique.

Jonathan then used the hi-speed movement technique to flee the area. It only took a few seconds to arrive at where he hid Gatetsu and Chōseki's bodies. But when he looked at them, they were severely affected by Jonathan's last water-lightning attack. Their faces were so distorted that they weren't recognizable.

This was bad for Jonathan. The whole purpose of his coming was to collect the combined bounty of three million ryō. Jonathan raised his head and turned around. Standing right behind him was Itachi Uchiha.

"You don't have to worry. The copy ninja Kakashi won't die that easily. And I saw you grab your comrade's body to safety before my attack," Jonathan assured. "The same, however, can't be said for the female Anbu." Jonathan was comfortable speaking with Itachi, but it would likely be the last time he did so because he would recall his voice one day.

"That's not my concern," Itachi coldly stated. He held his tantō up. This was exactly how Jonathan expected Itachi to act. When Itachi was given a mission, he would see it through to the end. And the only reason he gave chase to Jonathan was because he was confident enough to win.

"The Uchiha clan will only bring you down," Jonathan announced. "What?!" Itachi questioned.

'That got him,' Jonathan thought. The fact that Itachi hadn't made a name for himself, no one should know who he was outside the Leaf. Jonathan was positive a lot of thoughts were rapidly roaming through his head.

"You see, I'm a bounty hunter. It's my job to know about my prey." Jonathan had already thought of something on the spot. "The longer you stay, the more tainted you'll become."

"What are you--?"

'Ninja art: hidden mist.'

Jonathan used that moment to cover the area in mist. The sharingan had powerful ocular vision, but even it was not invincible. Jonathan hid himself well in the mist. When he figured Itachi was just as blind as he was, he left the area with the flying raijin technique.
