The next day, Jonathan was instructed by Kabuto to meet the other orphans and him in the medical ward. He already knew this is where the others were practicing medical ninjutsu while he was doing more labourous tasks. Only the orphans who showed aptitude with chakra were allowed to participate.
Jonathan had wondered where some of the orphans went during this time. The moment Nonō Yakushi saw Jonathan, she was content that Kabuto brought him in.
"Did you finish the book, Musei?"
"Not yet. I didn't get some of the chapters," Jonathan answered.
This wasn't a lie. When it was night time, Jonathan skimmed through the whole book and memorized only the important information. Most of the book was redundant, so he only valued the parts that dealt with either chakra or healing.
"That's okay. I didn't expect you to know everything," Nonō said. "Alright! Today we're going to practice healing on more severe injuries. Musei, I'd like you to watch first."
There were really only four orphans here. One of whom Jonathan recognized as Urushi. Aside from him, Kabuto was the only real orphan that held any meaning. Jonathan stood and watched as Kabuto made the ox seal before performing the basic healing jutsu on a fawn with a minor scratch. This technique was known as the mystical palm technique. It looked different to Jonathan in person. In fact, this was the first time Jonathan had ever seen a jutsu being performed before his very eyes.
Rather than a green, spherical shape of a flowing energy, Kabuto's hands were simply glowing. Not a moment sooner and Jonathan could physically see the fawn's injury being closed. It was as though the fawn's epidermis was being stitched together with invisible sutures. By the time Kabuto finished, there wasn't a single sign of a scar.
Even Jonathan was impressed by this world's abilities to perform such feats.
"Well done, Kabuto," Nonō said praising the boy. Nonō proceeded by opening a large scroll on a table. She then took out a small fish from her nurses uniform and placed it on the center of the scroll.
"Jonathan," she beckoned. "Would you come here for a moment."
Jonathan walked towards Nonō, already knowing what she was trying to conduct. Nonō tried to explain the concept of chakra to Jonathan, but her words fell on deaf ears. Jonathan could only nod his head whilst waiting his opportunity.
"I don't expect you to get it on the first try, but that doesn't mean you should give up," Nonō encouraged.
Just like Nonō instructed, Jonathan performed the ox seal and placed his palms only inches from the fish's body. Jonathan felt that same sensation from yesterday. Only this time, he focused all that energy into his palms. His hands began to glow a light-green colour. With every passing moment, Jonathan could feel not just the fish but what was inside the fish. A lot of its cells were lacking hydrogen. Jonathan knew this because of how dry they felt. He expelled a little bit of his chakra into a lot of those cells at once and felt them moving regularly. Jonathan couldn't physically see the fish getting better, he could only feel it because of his chakra being connected to the fish itself. Rather than do the same procedure as he did with the other dry cells, Jonathan chose to stop.
Nonō noticed that the technique ended and gave a slight smile. "That's okay, Musei. You'll get it next time," she said comfortably.
"That was incredible!" Urushi said. "It took me hours to get that jutsu down." Kabuto himself was impressed at Jonathan's speed. Not a single one of them knew, however, that Jonathan had been practicing his chakra control even after he left Nonō's office. The healing jutsu was not only one of the most basic techniques a medical ninja knew, it was also something Jonathan had clear knowledge of how to perform.
Had Jonathan continued healing the fish, it would have surely began flopping back to life. But Jonathan was not going to reveal his potential to anyone.
