By no means did Jonathan want to attend the inauguration. Rather, Jonathan hadn't had any desire to step foot in the Leaf Village right now. Even if no one recognized him after so long a time, he wasn't going to take that chance.
Not a moment too soon and the staff member called Nonō in. A lot of the orphans tried crowding around Jonathan to see what was wrong until the staff member urged to give him some breathing room. Jonathan knew the only ways to get out of attending the inauguration was to either injure himself or feign an illness so believable that he had to stay.
Nonō knelt down and placed her hands on Jonathan's forehead. She then asked, "Musei, what's wrong?" Jonathan gave one simple answer.
"I don't feel good."
Nonō picked up Jonathan and took him to the medical ward. Some of the other kids tried mocking Jonathan because they thought he just wanted Nonō's attention. But this was far from the case. The last person Jonathan wanted was that.
A few minutes and Jonathan found himself laying down on a bed inside the medical ward. "Can you tell me where it hurts, Musei?" asked Nonō asked with a sweet tone.
"Everywhere," Jonathan replied exasperatedly.
Nonō couldn't perform her healing jutsu if she couldn't identify where Jonathan's injury was. She'd be wasting her chakra anyways since there was no injury to begin with. Instead, Nonō grabbed some medicine from the cabinet to give to Jonathan.
A staff member came to see how Jonathan was doing.
"I'm afraid he's too sick to go anywhere," Nonō announced.
"Too sick?! Who's going to stay behind to watch him?" argued the staff member.
"I'll be staying, of course. Let the others know I won't be attending," replied Nonō contently.
At those words, Jonathan tugged on Nonō's uniform. "It's okay, mom. I'll be fine."
The way Jonathan pronounced those words would have made any adult feel sorry for his condition. Nonō was reluctant on staying which made Jonathan annoyed. He didn't want her here.
Despite his efforts, Nonō became stagnant on her decision.

For the whole morning and afternoon, Nonō brought food and medicine to Jonathan's bedside. She would at times leave for at most thirty minutes before returning to Jonathan's side. This troubled Jonathan because it gave him no real room to practice his chakra control. Around children who knew little about chakra, he could do it. But in front of a Jōnin leveled ninja who once worked for an evil, covert organization would be detrimental.
Nonō tried making small talk, but Jonathan only gave her short, unresponsive answers. He knew his day was being wasted in bed. More so, he wasn't planning on telling Nonō that he was feeling better. If he did, she would suggest them going to the inauguration.
Jonathan patiently waited, eventually falling asleep. When he arose the sun was already setting. Jonathan looked over and saw Nonō hunched over by his bed. 'Had this woman really cared for me that much?' Jonathan thought. But he had no sense of pity in his heart. Neither was he the type to show any sentimental feelings to those he viewed as less than nothing.
'How imprudent.'
Not a moment too soon and Jonathan got up from his bed. Just the slightest movement from him and Nonō had also woken up.
"Are you feeling better, Musei?" she asked in a tired tone.
Jonathan detested that name. He knew who he was and would never forget how he felt about this godforsaken world.
"Mm-hmm," Jonathan nodded.
Before Nonō could utter another word, the door to the ward opened. It was the children and the staff members.
"See! I told you he was faking it," Urushi bellowed.
"Now, now, Urushi. Musei needed some sleep was all," happily responded Nonō.
Jonathan couldn't feel any remorse towards Nonō's kindness. To him, it was a fabricated lie that Danzō Shimura would take advantage of.
For the remainder of the evening, Jonathan kept hearing news of what took place during the inauguration. What he was really listening for was if any mentioned him in the Leaf Village. He heard nothing. This calmed Jonathan's nerve. It had only been three weeks since Jonathan arrived in the ninja world. The less people that knew of him, the better he'll be able to maneuver.
