Chapter 22: Chapter 22: The First Battle

There was a shocked look on the woman's face as her head spun in the air. Jonathan had a satisfied look. He wasn't overly excited. Only content at the results.

"Poof."

A puff cloud of smoke shrouded the woman's body.

'I was too slow,' Jonathan thought. A half-cut log then landed on the ground. Though Jonathan had managed to wait long enough for the remaining poison to take its effect again, he was too careless. And even though the shinobi was partly parlayed, she had just enough strength and time to prepare a substitution technique. Jonathan felt livid inside. He began surveying his area whilst keeping his composure.

'She's still poisoned, so she couldn't have gotten too far.'

Just then, a loud explosion from a far was heard. It caused the very ground Jonathan was standing on to shake. 'The only thing to cause something that powerful was a tailed-beast bomb,' Jonathan deduced.

At that moment of the tailed beats bomb's impact, Jonathan heard the shriek of a woman's voice by the bushes. Bloodthirsty, Jonathan threw three senbon in that direction. The Uchiha woman leapt upwards and landed on a tree branch above her.

"Jonathan, huh? I'll be sure to remember what name to write on your grave!" panted the woman. Jonathan smirked a little. He could see glowing red eyes as well as her sweating profusely from the poison. In the blink of an eye, the woman inhaled deeply. Jonathan hadn't even seen her perform any hand signs but he knew from years of accumulated knowledge the technique.

What came forth was a raging wave of flames from the woman's mouth. Jonathan's chakra was on the verge of depleting. He used all the augmented strength on his legs that he could muster and lunged to the right. Not a moment too soon and Jonathan's entire lower body would have suffered from burns. Only half of his left foot was burnt.

Before landing, Jonathan pulled out three more senbon, somersaulted and lunged them at the woman just before landing. Struggling, the woman pulled out a kunai and deflected them all.

'That sharingan is a lot deadlier than I imagined,' Jonathan said in his head. Had it not been for the woman's earlier injuries from the nine-tails assault as well as the paralysis poison, Jonathan would have been dead by now. His movements were clearly incomparable to hers if she weren't at such a disadvantage.

Jonathan could feel his chakra plummeting after that little exchange. This caused his own stamina to decrease severely.

"That sharingan won't save you," Jonathan confidently said.

"And your arrogance won't save you," she retorted.

A sudden strong gust of wind swept past the field Jonathan was at. He knew it was the fourth Hokage fending off the nine-tails. When Jonathan looked, the woman was struggling to keep her balance on the branch.

The only reason Jonathan commented on the woman's sharingan was because he was trying to bide time for the paralysis poison to spread through her body. Seeing that she couldn't even holster herself up right, Jonathan started his run. If he didn't end things soon, her chakra would deplete. And if that happened, her sharingan would deactivate.

Jonathan didn't let the pressure get to him. He pushed his body to move forward despite his expressionless exhaustion. When the woman lifted her head, she became anxious.

Unlike a few moments ago, Jonathan could see her performing her hand signs.

'Snake, ram, monkey…' repeated Jonathan. He knew she was going for another fireball technique. Jonathan threw his last remaining senbon at the woman's arms. A couple of the senbon hit her abdomen but the last one's missed. The woman began sweating profusely before toppling forward off the branch. She landed right on the ground.

Before Jonathan threw his last remaining senbon needles, he had already dipped the tips in poison. Just that alone was enough to stop her from concentrating on her jutsu. Jonathan's chakra was severely low. The woman struggled to raise her head. When she did, she saw Jonathan approaching. The moon's light caused a shadow to cover half of his face. He looked menacing. This made the woman shuttering in fear.

'No. I can't give up,' she thought.

The woman tried to move her body but Jonathan already knew she wouldn't be able to. Not only that, there was no way she was able to keep her chakra controlled in her current state. Even if she had medicine, she would have already used it when she got injured at the beginning. Jonathan's hand began glowing a bluish colour.

"Izumi… I'm sorry." the woman's faint voice uttered.

By the time Jonathan reached the woman, he hadn't cared how low his chakra reserves were getting. But the moment he noticed her sharingan was still active, he swiped his hands slicing her head clean off.

Her head bounced upwards and Jonathan immediately caught it, ripping both her eyes out…

He had been planning for this moment for months. He knew he had to extract the eyes while they were still in their sharingan state. If the target was dead for too long, Jonathan wasn't completely sure if they'd deactivate or not if the head stayed severed for too long.

Jonathan didn't waste any time. He hadn't the strength to carry the woman's headless body, so he was forced to drag her. Because the nine-tails was still attacking the Leaf, it provided an excellent distraction. People, shinobi alike, were either too focused on it or had already taken shelter. Not a single person was nearby.

It was exhausting but Jonathan's perseverance was unlike others. He didn't think about his chakra having been depleted close to zero nor the fact that he had almost fainted trying to drag the woman to a secluded area. When he finally found a destroyed building, he limped inside, clinching to the headless body. As the body was still vital to Jonathan. Looking back, Jonathan, though content, kept a blank face in seeing there was hardly any trail of blood.
