Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Onii-Chan

The Ichiraku Ramen shop remained closed for the morning. Walking out casually as if nothing happened was the owner of that shop, Teuchi.

Jonathan watched from atop a building as Teuchi joyfully walked home. He was given some greetings here and there from familiar faces, but he remained calm throughout. After a few blocks of traveling, Teuchi stopped by his home. It was in a rural neighbourhood. Not too poor, not too rich either. This was expected since his ramen shop thrived well in the Leaf.

"Isn't that Teuchi?" a woman across from his house asked.

"I thought he left for work today," a man standing next to her said.

"Maybe he forgot something at home."

The instant Teuchi opened the door, Jonathan activated his high-speed movement technique. He hopped down from the building across Teuchi's house, landing exactly where the two were discussing Teuchi's strange behaviour. Purposefully making noise on his land, the two looked behind them. They saw nothing. Jonathan had already dashed across the street and made it into Teuchi's abode without being noticed. Teuchi walked in normally before shutting the door.

"My boy! You sure are fast," Teuchi praised.

"Where is Ayame?" Jonathan asked, ignoring his comment. Jonathan wasn't fast. He was just fast enough to avert the attention of average citizens.

"She's probably still asleep," sighed Teuchi. "The shop's been getting busy lately, so I'm gonna need an extra hand to help me around one day."

Jonathan had a feeling Ayame, Teuchi's only daughter, would not be at the shop. This was because she was only five years of age at the moment. Jonathan walked upstairs quietly. There was something he had not yet confirmed. And that was if Teuchi had a spouse or not. He already understood how this world operated for the most part. A lot of unfilled scenes or characters were added in. No avid fan of the series would have ever known who or what those things were. At best, they could only come up with theories or guesses. Jonathan was not one to do so. He needed the straight truth.

When Jonathan made it upstairs, there were only three bedrooms. He checked what looked like the largest room and found no one. He checked the second room next to it and saw someone on a bed. The size of the figure clearly told Jonathan this was Ayame. When he checked the third room, it was practically empty. Jonathan deduced this was likely a guest room.

After confirming that there was no other person in Teuchi's house, he went back to Ayame's room.

She felt someone tug on her while she was still asleep, causing her to wake up sluggishly. "Daddy?" She spoke. "I thought you went to work." When she looked, Jonathan's piercing sharingan eyes caused her to freeze in place. The light from her eyes slowly faded. "Oh. It's you, onii-chan," Ayame corrected herself with a smile.

Jonathan hadn't smiled in the slightest but merely asked, "Ayame, where is mother?"

"Huh? We don't have a mommy," she answered a tad confused.

Jonathan lightly touched Ayame's head to let her get back to sleep.

"I love you, onii-chan."

Jonathan hadn't reciprocated Ayame's false sense of love. Why would he?
